“I did sign up for a group yoga class, you know. But after only one session, I wanted to murder the instructor. Not for her heart, though. She was just being really insufferable.
I guess I could try pilates.”

“I’ve heard meditation works quite well-- or Sudoku.”

“Ewwwwww. The thought of being a boring housewife just made me want to throw up. Does that really happen with me and Eric?
I mean, I guess Eric’s good for a laugh, once you get over how completely stupid he is. He tells the funniest stories! But, like any good crop, I’m just waiting for the right season to harvest. I can’t think of any time when his heart will be more ready than the night of our eventual honeymoon.”

“E v e r y t h i n g happens with you and Eric.”
“You know, Mira, maybe you should work on that unhealthy obsession with hearts. Find some other stress relief or something.”

“Do you think I’m lying? I’m honestly more than a little bit jealous that I don’t get to retain memories from other timelines. I mean, Sean told me that I got to carve open Eric’s chest and feel his still-beating heart in his hands, and that was a near euphoric experience. And in another route, I got to chop sweet little Junpei into a bunch of little pieces, and get you to think that Carlos did it, and-
Oh. I got carried away again. Sorry for bringing that last one up.”
“Your attitude towards those incidents might be one of the reasons why it won’t happen for you. I believe that whatever higher form of justice chooses to reset your consciousness every single time is doing it’s job quite well.”
“...”

“And don’t forget, Mira, there’s plenty of timelines where you become Eric’s sweet, demure and peaceful wife-- o r where you steal my man by other means that chopping him up.”

“Hmm. I didn’t think you were going actually take me seriously. If you’re not joking around, though… how about meeting me at the stroke of midnight, outside the biology labs of the university, and we’ll stage an insurrection in their laboratories?
You can even bring your old robe and gas mask, for old times’ sake. It’s a shame I’ve never gotten to see it for myself. The way the older games were set up, they sound like so much fun!”

“If there’s one thing you still have to learn about me, then it’s that I probably am joking around. Sorry, but I’m not up for a midnight rendezvous-- and I’m not wearing the zero gear for fun, although it is quite stylish, huh?
Are you, from the bottom of your heart, suggesting that the Nonary Games sound like fun?”

- Self-Knowledge Questionnaire. -
RATIONALITY
You like clarity and intelligent simplicity and you get frustrated at messy thinking. This can make you seem unreasonably pushy to some, but it is actually a virtue: you are motivated by a horror at pointless effort and a longing for precision and insight into how things and people work. Your ability to synthesise and bring order is essential in producing thinking which is truly helpful.
SHYNESS
Part of you is gripped by the fear that you’ll launch into something and completely mess it up. The upside of this is wise caution: people are indeed often too rash, whereas you know, by instinct, that holding back can save you. Probably, you feel shame and self-disgust a bit too much. But when you do feel in your element, you act with a wisdom and sensitivity never found in people with thicker skins.
SENSITIVITY
You have delicate, sensitive perceptions; you can be deeply moved by appearances – the right light in a room, or good food, or the texture of a piece of clothing. Expressive, intelligent language has a powerful hold on you; your mind works better when it is inspired and provoked by vivid imagery. It can be sad to live in a world which is often so ugly and not properly looked after. But you know that things can be otherwise, and you have the ability to appreciate the world at its best.

「How about we do Christmas a little early this year?」
Maybe the question seemed to have come out of the blue, but Aoi had been sleeping on the idea for some time now. It wasn’t as though he didn’t have his reasons. Soon enough, Akane would be headed out to Nevada—a place that Aoi never wanted either of them to go back to if he could help it. He couldn’t, though: like so many times before, Akane staying or leaving would literally decide the fate of the universe.
Of course, her work in Nevada would start on Christmas. It was ALWAYS Christmas. The universe really liked to taunt him, didn’t it? Maybe Akane even knew that he would ask her what he just had, and had simply kept quiet.
He glances up from the floor to look at his sister, still resting his temple against his fist. 「What do you say? I’d personally like to give it one more go before the potential apocalypse.」
Akane lifted her gaze from whatever she was doing on her laptop, meeting her brother’s eyes with the tiniest hint of a loving smile playing on her lips. She was so busy, metaphorically drowning in work, yet in an unsettling, peaceful state of mind – however, there were no more cognitive ressources to remind herself of the annual Kurashiki Christmas traditions, which was why his attentiveness to the subject brought about joy on her part.
“That sounds like something we should definitely do,” the brunette responded, rising from her chair to head towards the other. There was no apparent reason as to why she was feeling a sudden urge to display affection, but she opted to follow through with her needs, tenderly lifting a hand to Aoi’s face to brush one of his white strands behind his ear.
Hey Akane, this might be the last time you see each other in a while, is craving some brother-sister time really that strange?
“No, honestly, I’d love that. And since you’re the realest Santa of them all, you do have the power to reschedule Christmas.”
#squarerootofnine#(( THIS IS PROBABLY GOING TO BE REALLY SAD. ))#(( and i live for sadness. mwahaha. ))#(( no seriously i'm so excited to rp with you! ))#(( also while writing this i noticed sooo many of akane's smiling icons have some kind of. sarcastic know-it-all smile. ))#(( COME ON KANNY GIVE ME SOME EMOTION. ))

“What do you mean, you don’t know? Akane, isn’t your entire shtick being able to see decades into the future? Surely, by 2100, they must have figured out where a pathetic little frog consciousness goes.
But, if they haven’t, I guess we could always run our own games with frogs, and see what happens to their brains when they have to watch people die over and over and over again. You in?”
“I see whatever other versions of myself have seen, and it doesn’t look like that information involves frog consciousnesses. Besides, I assumed we were talking about a toad?”
“A froggery game! Now that sounds interesting, doesn’t it? Count me in!”

“Wait… so you mean to tell me, a frog’s tiny little mind has the ability to SHIFT, and yet mine doesn’t? That’s not fair.”

“Yes and no.”
“This merging process is what happens to each and everyone. It only makes it SHIFTing when the subject remembers what happened before, and realizes they’re from another timeline.”
“So, did the frog SHIFT? We don’t know.”

@schrodingerskanny LIKED !!
– ❝ say, june ❞ calm & knowing smile graces his visor as he approaches the other. a single arm rests wrapped across his waist, while the other rests under his chin in a pose one would most commonly describe as a thinking one. head is tilted to the side as he waits for her to turn, give her enough time to REACT to his words ( & ensure she was actually listening to him ), before continuing with, ❝ per chance, have you & junpei ever thought about getting married ? ❞
Had Akane not been such a splendid actress, her face might have revealed the momentary yet genuine surprise as to Snake’s Light’s question. However, June on the other hand was less taken aback by the inquiry as she was embarrassed, resulting in her lifting her hands to her face as if to hide her flushing cheeks. It didn’t really do anything to conceal her blushing; instead, it drew attention to it even more.
“Jumpy and I-- Ah, heh, you know, we haven’t seen each other in such a long time.” Shaking her head, the brunette raised her gaze as if to make eye contact, despite the fact that she was well-aware meeting eyes wouldn’t work out so well with Snake.
“And, uh, marriage is such a big step, you know, I don’t--”
What she meant to say was that they hadn’t talked about it, but one could dream, right?
“Why do you ask?”
#mistctch#v;999#( haha don't worry! :P )#( the starter is great as it is! )#( thanks for writing this up for meee )#( that said i'm always up for plotting in the future! )

“You know what happens to a toad when it’s struck by lightning?”

“The same thing that happens to everything else.”

“Its current body ceases all biological processes, its consciousness seemingly fading yet actually merging with one in a timeline not very far from its original one.”

Sigma stared at her in wonder, hanging onto every word. He would have a serious, thoughtful pose, if he wasn’t busy jamming bites of sandwich down his gullet. He had no idea if the B. Garden he had seen in the future was operational in 2028, or if that was just another part of the facility he’d need to recreate. Even with his memory as strong as it was, each of those wards could take ages to construct, assuming he wouldn’t be getting much physical help. There was every chance that these sandwiches, as mundane as they were, would be the last Earthly food he’d have for months, at a minimum.
“It gets better, huh? I needed to hear that. Thanks.”
He restlessly tapped his fingers against his knee, still getting used to the sensation of mechanical joints and limbs. The analogy made perfect sense, and he wondered how Akane came up with it so rapidly, out of nowhere. Or, now that he thought about it, how Phi and everyone else seemed to have similes for days, too. Maybe that’s something he could get better at with decades of practice.
As restless as he was, he certainly couldn’t help staring out the window again, with the mushroom cloud beginning to dissipate. There still wasn’t a single recognizably human voice outside, nor any of the ambient noises, like the hums of traffic on roadways, that would helped indicate the existence of civilization. Now looking a little more stoic (aided by the fact he put the sandwich down), he asked, “This scene, outside. How many times have you seen it?”
"You're welcome."
Akane didn't know whether he was being truthful about her words really being helpful to him or if he was just trying to make up for his negativity earlier, but she certainly hoped it was the former. There wasn't really anything else she could do at this point other than providing words of encouragement, and even if the woman was aware that human contact meant so very much in some situations, mere words could also mean nothing under other circumstances.
As Sigma proceeded to eat, Akane observed him carefully. His finger tapping indicated discomfort or at least a similar sensation, his eyes wandering to the scenery outside as if he had momentarily forgotten about it, only to be reminded of it again. Well, she was probably wrong. How could one forget about it if it was the first time they'd ever seen it?
As if the man had read her mind, his next question addressed precisely the issue of frequency.
"I don't know," Akane admitted, allowing a sigh to slip from her lips. "I wish I knew, but I never will."
“There’s no ending to this scene-- at least for me.”
