Hey guys, just a short update! I'm alive and well in Tokyo, this city is amazing, I bought way too much stuff, I miss rping with you guys and I both can't wait to be home yet wish I could stay longer. As to make this post functional in at least one way, like this for a starter when I get back on the 21st --- we could either plot something interesting or just wing posts back and forth!

Hey everyone! 

Since I’ll be traveling (again), I’ll be inactive from July 24th to August 1st. Unlike in March where I had unlimited access to the internet in Tokyo, this time I won’t be able to hop onto tumblr all that often, so there’s a good chance I won’t even post updates until I’m home. You never know! Anyways, please have lots of fun, stay happy and safe, and hopefully we’ll roleplay again when I’m back!

Akane Analysis

I wrote this several years ago, so please bear with me. The only reason I’m even posting it is so that I can link to it in another post. If you’ve been dying You’re not funny Sey to know how my past self (before Zero Time Dilemma’s existence was even likely) distinguished June/Akane/Zero, read on! Contains spoilers for 999 and VLR, yet no ZTD spoilers.

For me, June and Akane (as Zero) are two completely different people that stem from the same person, in this case Akane as a child. Before I played Virtue’s Last Reward, I wasn’t sure whether or not June does have a few aspects of Akane’s “true” character; after finishing the game, I came to the conclusion that for me, there’s very little common ground. Akane is — or at least in the way I see her — someone that has seen too much to live the way any other person can. Apart from her backstory (the whole Nonary Game and incinerator incident), we’ve learned that she’s not only able to see alternate timelines, but also to jump through time like Sigma and Phi do. That means she has lived through multiple possibilities of her and her loved ones dying or suffering, resulting in her becoming unable to feel emotions in the same way/of the same intensity that other people do. Just because we haven’t seen an infinite amount of timelines in the games doesn’t mean Akane hasn’t lived through them. She must have experienced happiness, but also a lot of physical and emotional pain, which are the emotions that shape humans psychologically. To me, the Zero persona is closer to the “real” Akane than 999 June, who I view as partly an act she put on in the Nonary Game to lead Junpei/be likeable to him and to recreate the events she has witnessed, effectively leading to her success and survival. I do think she feels love towards a few people (such as Aoi, Kyle, and undeniably Junpei), but it’s not like she actively gets to live in happiness with them until they stop Radical-6 from rampaging before a vast part of the population goes down the drain. But even then, would she be able to live like a normal human being with everything she lived through and everything she has seen? I don’t think so. By the time she accesses the Morphogenetic Field and the Fourth Dimension, Akane has lived thousands of lives and acquired more experience than anyone without an ability comparable to hers (as in quantum immortality) ever could. Her body dies, but her consciousness and memories never do. Akane as Zero, or as I would say Akane herself, is shaped by these experiences of multiple timelines and endless possibilities. There are a few quotes from producer Uchikoshi that I would like to mention at this point. They are from the VLR and 999 Q&A: ”Nagisa Nijisaki is one of the people who killed her [Akane] in an alternate history… She’s the sort of woman who’ll do whatever it takes to achieve her goals. Even though she seems like a nice girl, she’s always plotting rather cold things. She’d easily kill someone if she needed to. Her personality is a result of what happened to her 9 years before… Perhaps there were things that happened on that ship that couldn’t be shown in the actual game.”  ”I guess my favorite would be Akane. My intention was to create the world’s worst heroine, but how well did that work out? She’s pretty bad, but there’s still some sense of purity in her, and she’s also noble. I guess…you could categorize her as a genius… Her motives are too grand in scale for an ordinary person to ever understand her. I love all of my characters, though.” ”You’re exactly right [about Akane]. I guess you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover. Pretty scary, isn’t it?” “Q18: does June have good intentions at heart, or has time and circumstance hardened her into a heartless creature? She has experienced various histories (both past and future) many, many times. For example, imagine a person who’s lived for a million years. I’m sure their definition of “good” and “evil” will be a lot different than ours.”

"However, old Akane’s consciousness can freely jump to different histories, futures or pasts.” “For Junpei there are 45 years worth of feelings, and for Akane, a million years worth of feelings and emotions, resonating within them both.” Now what I’m trying to do is to sort of mix both June and Akane. If you recall her old self in VLR (and her younger self in End or Beginning), you will realize that she is completely different to 999 June. However, the latter’s wonderful sense of humour, her random rambling about scientific matters or conspiracy theories, her physical delicateness, her adoration of animals and so on and so forth are definitely character traits I very much attribute to the “real” Akane as well.

Ahaha, the Junpei matter is something I still have my trouble with; mostly because I never thought she really loved him until it became obvious in canon (and the interview). I'll have to try my hand on that a bit more! ALSO. About Aoi. You angst queen. Even your words hinted at angst, hahaha //D but no, you're right. Don't cross it out it makes sense and I'll see what I can do. As far as character development goes, it's partially explainable.
