jaebum knew he made a mistake. his sudden realization causing the law student’s footsteps to halt. it was a bit late he supposed - to realize his mistake seeing as he was already in front of jin’s dorm room, his fist inches away from knocking on the door.  jin was at the studio today, and jaebum must of forgotten that, he supposed it must of just slipped through the cracks. but he supposed things like this happened, but there was about an hour or so before jin would return from the studio and jaebum didn’t really feel like walking over there and waiting outside the studio. he always felt a little too clumsy around there - everyone in that department seemed to carry themselves with a grace jaebum could only dream about. but that’s beside the point, he had some free time and jaebum didn’t want to be that creep hanging outside dorms for no reason.

so there was no choice but to knock on the door of jin’s dorm. after all he knew ten might be there, and while he wasn’t that close with the other male, he enjoyed his company enough - a fellow victim when it came to jin trying to destroy all and any sort of unhealthy snacks from his and ten’s diet.  plus - he enjoyed the various questions about law ten had for him when he came over, often time he felt like he was being a bore when he talked about his career, but the other young man never made it seem as those his words were boring.

and with those thoughts, jaebum quickly let his knuckle tap against the door. hoping that ten was home and was willing to pass the time with him.

jaebum wouldn’t say he’s close to a lot of jinyoung’s friends. sure he’s given most of them rides – or seen them during recitals but being a bit socially awkward, he’s always found it a bit hard to connect with most of them – or a bit hard to start any conversations. but he knew that shying away from most of them would leave a bad impression among jinyoung’s friends, and jaebum being raised to fear being disliked by anyone found himself somehow entangled with helping one of jinyoung’s friends joohyun find a job.

of course, he can’t recall how he came across this information. perhaps during his various trips to picking up jinyoung and joohyun he had overheard their conversation. but that didn’t really matter now did it ?  because the law student found himself settled at some café not to far from campus, waiting for the ballet dancer to arrive. he honestly didn’t mind – after all what could go wrong with helping someone find a job.

so he waits for a few minutes – the soft voices of 10cm filling the rather quiet café as he spots joohyun entering the café. he gives a polite smile, waving his hand to gain her attention. “ hey joohyun-ssi” the greeting coming out a bit later, as the ballet player comes closer, “ are you ready to get started ?”

it takes four tries to unlock his phone, six to dial the number, two to make sense of the words that clutter his throat – to sort through them, as though sentences were broken puzzles he has to piece together to let jaebum know – in a liquid slur – that he needs to be rescued. he pours his voice into the phone with care, but his aim falters and words spill between the folds of his clothing; a wash of laughter follows.

seven steps pull him away from the party, and in eight he finds a small patch of grass to rest against. posture collapses and sprawls his limbs out on the ground; a hand lifts; a finger points, tries to prick constellations into the washed out night sky.

he’s still sober enough to count what he hopes are minutes; seconds that swell too long; moments that pass too slow and sit between him and safety. a glamorous rescue – he’s drunk enough to fashion himself as an icon of luxury. he’d been raised that way, after all, and the habits are hard to shake; hard to imagine anything but hushed whispers and smooth skin and the voices that feel like silk in his ears. the expensive cars, the fabrics – textures cool under his skin.

and he wants to cry, wants to laugh, but only waits. energy still strains against the seams, waiting to be let out – it makes him restless, even when tired. forces him to stand, to let his feet move to a distant dance, lost to his memory but engraved into his bones as a singular thought fills his head: home.  

            sometimes jaebum wonders it would be easier if he went along with jinyoung to these parties. that even if jaebum found himself uncomfortable with the whole event, it’d be right - to join jinyoung at these events. after all the ballet dancer enjoyed parties, he enjoyed the dancing, the laughter and whatever came along with it. he feels a bit guilty whenever jinyoung went off to the latest get together alone. perhaps that’s why he finds himself speeding off to whatever location jinyoung texted to him towards the end of the night, that since jaebum himself couldn’t provide his presence at the event itself.             perhaps he’ll take a day off this week, and take jinyoung somewhere nice. it’s been awhile since the both of them were able to go spend some quality time with one another, that wasn’t them eating dinner at jaebum’s apartment and falling asleep to whatever drama that had some crappy idol as the main leads that was currently on the tv.  and while jaebum enjoys the charm of domesticity - he knew that there should be no harm in trying something new along with jinyoung.  ah, he’ll have to plan it out, do some more research on something cheap yet enjoyable they could do.             he spots jinyoung before he spots the house.the younger man settled along a grassy patch - his hand outreached as if to touch the sky. a smile effortlessly slipping on the law student’s face as he parks the car - and walks over to jinyoung who has now stood up. “ jinyoungie - are you ready to go home now ? come on, it’s chilly out here.” jaebum mutters - as he places his jacket over the younger’s shoulder. gesturing the dancer into the car.          “ are you hungry ?” jaebum questions as he steps into the car, turning towards jinyoung with a soft smile. “ we can go grab something before we go home.”

 jaebum never really cared for working out when he was a teenager - studying was more important than anything else ( a thought he held till this day ), and the only exercise he did during his high school years was baseball practice. though he had only joined baseball due to his mother’s urging, and how she worried that he was going to drown in his textbooks before he graduated from high school.and that wasn’t much work if jaebum was going to be completely honest, after all, he had joined in his second year,.

         but that all changed once he had enlisted in the army.  he was too scrawny too lanky, therefore it was probably a blessing that his higher ups pushed him to fill himself out more. and well, now it was a habit he couldn’t shake. which was evident in the way he kept a tight schedule and tried to go to the gym at least twice a week since he came back from the army. and he dreaded every second of it.

        this time was no different, though he noticed that there were a few people around him that look as though they were dreading the whole gym thing as much as he was.  sighing, jaebum was a bit caught off guard as he noticed a young woman next to him looking quite tuckered out – wow, she looked like she needed a hand seeing as her water bottle was empty. “ hey huh do you need another water bottle, you want to take mine ? “ he offers, holding out the water bottle towards the young woman.

the cafeteria was always a bit too loud for jaebum - the background of conversation causing jaebum unable to eat his meal peacefully. but alas, the bitter winds of the coming winter had caused the usually reclusive law student to sulk in the most uninhabited area of the before mentioned cafeteria.  usually he would have his meals in the library but since exam season was coming up, it had cause an influx of students to spend their lunch hours there. but if jaebum was being quite honest, eating in the cafeteria wasn’t that bad, after all jinyoung had made his lunch, and jinyoung’s cooking was nothing to be sulking over. 

his inner molongue was interrupted upon seeing a familar face approach his table, ah jennie. he hasn’t seen her in quite awhile. looking up as the young woman moved closer, the man let out a polite smile. 

“ jennie, it’s been awhile - you coming in for lunch ?” he questions, as the takes out his own lunch from his backpack, gesturing for the other to sit at the table.
