Word of mouth had always been a funny thing to Haneul – the spread of information (sometimes involuntary) from person to person based solely on what they could remember from the person who’d told them, who was only relaying as much as they could remember from whomever had told them. The real-world version of Telephone. The stakes of which today were a roof over Haneul’s head. Bouncing from couch to couch had long since lost the glamor it may have once had to him… and not to mention the slow loss of patience from the friends housing him. He’s tried nearly every avenue – physical message boards around campus, digital message boards specifically for students, asking friends of friends, he was honestly this close to asking the masses on social media. Thankfully, Haneul had been saved from doing that by one text message. One text message that led to a handful more, which ultimately led to this meeting. Late one afternoon after his classes had finished for the day. Arriving at the cafe a good time earlier than agreed upon, Haneul finds himself a small booth in the back corner that gives him a good view of the front entrance and the people coming and going. He’s looking for someone in particular. Although, not with much diligence, his focus on whatever mobile game he’s obsessed with this week – a puzzle based game requiring him to pair multiples of two together in order to create the highest number possible.

An hour is all it takes for her to unfold completely, the grip on the glass no longer tight as it's tilted to her mouth, set down on polished wood. Lively is what they're going for from what it looks like, the bar thrumming with a kind of energy that can only mean it's none other but Friday night: the tantalizing sizzle of grills, a chorus of clinks from ceramic plates and silverware, some line of groovy guitar funk from the band cutting through the babble. 

She licks her lips, finds the light malt of beer, the kick of roasted green peppers. Savory and sweet. It's good. She feels good.

A hand snakes out from her sleeve to cup her bowl of fried noodles, then at the curve of an unopened bottle of Cass. Just one more, just one more excuse clumsily wrapped up into a promise. 

"Hey." The word slips free, sliding slick over the tabletop.  Under the brim of her cap, Solji’s smile is a twist between mirthful and I know that look. "Say something. Just spit it out."

there’s too many kinds of chaos to lose oneself to in the thick of the night, and sungki had been tasked with choosing one to celebrate uui’s latest commission. obviously there would no expense spared in their outing, not when it came to one of his longest lasting friendships - and it was strange, to think that he of all people could maintain something so closely associated with normalcy, this bond laden with warmth and loyalty. he would never dare to underestimate it, or take it for granted - as cold as he was, as cruel as he could be, he would never be fool enough to do that.

he chooses a spot that deals in expensive, fine liquor but is informal enough to have a dance floor sequestered off from plush, velvet seats and cool tables. seldom was he ever uncomfortable in any extreme, either in the raucous bedlam of a house party after midnight or in the subtle disquiet of a tiny bar whose patrons simply drank and ruminated - so long as he wasn’t bored. boredom was dangerous.

but he’s anything but bored as he strides towards the bartender, his fingers wrapped around uui’s wrist, his lips lifted into a faint smirk. he laid several hefty wons on the bar and his own credit card - “for your troubles. do not serve this man if he comes to you asking to open a tab on his card - we’re celebrating his personal victory and he has no business paying for anything.” he shot uui a faint smile, rare in its warmth. he had paid for several round of shots already, the liquid poison settling nicely in the pit of his stomach. “isn’t that right?”
