A Conversation About : Draco Malfoy
Hello everyone, I am here to talk about everyoneās problematic favorite, Draco Malfoy.

In his first appearance in the book, we see him in Madame Malkinās with Narcissa. He immediately comes across as an arrogant young man who believes your position in society should be determined by the magical blood coursing through your veins.
However, one moment that stands out for me is the moment where Draco extends his hand out to Harry asking to be friends. Granted, the only reason he says this is due to him being a ābetter wizardā than others due to his pure-blood status.
I do wonder though, how the rest of the story wouldāve played out if Harry had accepted Dracoās hand. Would Draco have been on the side of Dumbledores Army? We will never know.
I also thought it was rather odd that Draco would attempt to befriend Harry as he was raised by Death Eaters. It gives an insight into Dracoās family life. It makes you think that he mustn't have interacted with his parents, particularly his father, a great deal.
It wasnāt until book 6 that Draco went from a snobbish bully to a complex character that you could feel sympathy for. There is a huge debate among Potterheads as to whether Draco is āThe Boy Who Had No Choiceā or āThe Boy Who Made The Wrong Choicesā. Personally, I believe that Draco was āThe Boy Who Had No Choiceā. If Draco did not carry out what was asked of him by Lord Voldermort, him and his family wouldāve been killed. Although his parents were death eaters, everything went further than they were expecting and they could not escape. You can tell that Draco really didnāt want to kill Dumbledore. I love the way that Tom Felton portrays Dracoās inner turmoil in that scene. He absolutely screams talent and itās one of the moments that certifies the fact that Tom is one of my favorite actors. It annoys me that Dumbledore says that he can protect Draco and his family. 1) Draco has absolutely no reason to trust Dumbledore and 2) He vowed to protect the Potters and look what happened. (I know it was Peter who gave away the Potters but still, you catch my drift.) There is a poignant moment in Deathly Hallows that shows that Draco was not a bad person. When Harry, Ron and Hermione are taken to Malfoy mannor, Draco is asked to identify Harry. Although Harry has had a stinging jinx out on him by Hermione, he is still recognizable. And even if he couldnāt be identified, who else would be with Ron and Hermione? But despite all of this, he doesnāt grass Harry up. Why? Because he knows what would happen if Harry is identified.
Now I respect the fact that many people do not believe that Cursed Child is canon and thatās totally fine by me. However, I accept Cursed Child as canon and I think Cursed Child did a wonderful job at redeeming Draco. He says that he envied the golden trio as a young man as they genuinely liked each other and had fun with one another. He talks about his disdain at being left with Crabbe and Goyle who he never truly liked. He also acknowledges the mistakes himself and his parents made and doesnāt want to make the same mistakes with Scorpius. He wants to make sure that Scorpius will never be put in the position he was in as a young man. I also love how Astoria bettered Draco. I think that without her, he may or may not have turned out the way he did. He develops into a family orientated man who does love his son but has some difficulty in showing it. However, through losing Astoria and other events in Cursed Child, Draco and Scorpius form a closer bond.
Right then, thatās all! Let me know if you agree or disagree. All opinions are valid but please be respectful, I would not be hateful towards your opinion so donāt be hateful towards mine. :)

Draco: So youāre telling me, all this time, weāve been writing with splotchy inkwells and scratchy feathers, when muggles have been using these things?
Harry: Theyāre called pens.
Draco: They should be called bloody miracles. Pass me some parchment, Harry. I must write a letter to mother with one of these pens immediately.
Harry: About parchmentā¦
