It is canon that at some point, while Hiccup was still in a coma, Gobber went through his room and workshop to find the schematics for Toothless's tail. I cannot imagine that Stoick did not join him.

What must it have felt like, seeing all of Hiccup's drawings and models of Toothless? There is so much to unpack about what they would have thought.

They must have been struck by how little Hiccup hid his things (a canon detail!), because Hiccup knew they didn't care enough to notice. He left drawings of Toothless out ON HIS DESK and never worried about it.

Can you imagine? Your child loves something so deeply that it has become intrinsic to who they are, and you know they knew you would hate that thing if you found out, and you realize that they felt like they didn't even really need to hide it because you never looked at them enough to notice. And they were right.

And, also, Stoick and Gobber must have appreciated for the first time how incredible Hiccup's inventions are. Gobber had to break down the tail schematics to recreate it, which meant he had to fully confront how the tail control mechanism was light-years beyond any other piece of technology on the island.

They would have found, too, Hiccup's first few attempts at the tail. They would have been confronted with the fact that when given the space to test things, to try things and iron out the flaws, Hiccup is a genius. All those old inventions that almost worked but malfunctioned in some way? Yeah, if the village hadn't stopped Hiccup, if they had let him take notes and try again, those inventions probably would have worked.

Can you imagine what they felt, realizing how badly they had stifled and mistreated Hiccup? Realizing that if they had given him space to be himself, he would have been creating miracles his entire life?

ALSO, Stoick and Gobber must have truly understood for the first time how deeply Hiccup cared for Toothless. Hiccup made technical drawings for the tailfin, yes. But he also canonically drew a lot of art of Toothless just. Being Toothless. In the Live Action he even made a wooden carving with articulated wings! It is so evident from his space how much he loved Toothless. What do you think Stoick felt, seeing that, knowing how he himself treated Toothless after the arena fight?

There is just so much that comes from that small detail of Gobber making a new tailfin, and I desperately want, like, a novella from Stoick and Gobber's POV of that time period.

A running belief in not only canon (s3 Lena calling her friendship with Eddie a one way street), but also fandom is that Buck and Eddie's friendship is one sided. Now I did start this series originally with Buddie lenses, but I will admit that even after my first watch, I began getting that feeling too. While Buddie going canon was up in the air for me, I never questioned Buck's loyalty to Eddie. But that wasn't fair to Eddie right? I didn't want to seem like I was favoring Buck by acknowledging all of his acts when there HAD to be some on Eddie's side as well.

So during my second rewatch, I did something a little crazy. I notated every time Buck and Eddie did something for each other. Not only to disprove the fandom (and my own) misconceptions about this one way friendship, but also to double down on the idea that they both love and care for each other deeply in a 'more than friendship' kind of way.

And that's what this is! Broken down by season (as best as I could remember, I didn't label them by season when I was taking notes), Buck's deeds are in purple, and Eddie's are in blue.

You might notice some Crucial Plots are missing, that's because I didn't include anything that they did for each other while on the job (RE: Shooting, lightning, firetruck, well collapse), because I truly believe that Eddie and Buck are self sacrificing enough that regardless of who was in peril, they would react in the same way. You don't have to agree.

So while Buck going under the truck to save Eddie isn't included, the aftermath of him taking care of things for Eddie at home is. While the lightning strike isn't included, Eddie providing a safe place for Buck to land afterward is.

The asterisks denote when one is doing something for someone in the other's lives (IE: Buck watching Chris, or Eddie moving Maddie into her new place).

The Tsunami Arc is in red because there's a lot of back and forth that makes it complicated so I included it, but it's kind of it's own thing.

I didn't make these lists to prove or disprove anything. If seeing it doesn't move you, I'm glad to hear it. I acknowledge there's so much more to a relationship than doing things for each other. Like I said, I mostly did this for myself to prove/disprove a theory and whether or not it did, I'll add in the replies.

One final disclosure: I did do my second rewatch while working, so there is a chance I missed something. Please feel free to add it in the comments. Or hell, copy this idea and make your own list, idc. I'm just a girl with a hyperfixation, forcing it on the rest of you lol
