All fae males are absolutely down bad for their females. Especially so for their mate.
This is 100% an Elriel post fyi.
The rage they feel when their female is in danger. They will face death to save them. Without hesitation.
From the shadows near the entrance to the tent, Azriel said, as if in answer to some unspoken debate, “I'm getting her back.” Nesta slid her gaze to the shadowsinger. Azriel’s hazel eyes glowed golden in the shadows. Nesta said, “Then you will die.” Azriel only repeated, rage glazing that stare, “I’m getting her back.”
I stood. Met Azriel’s wrathful stare. “I’m going with you,” I said. Azriel only nodded.
&
“At least you’re honest.” Azriel smirked. “You and Nesta are wanted down there.” “Because of the shit with Elain?” Azriel stilled. “What happened to Elain?” Cassian waved a hand. “A fight with Nesta. Don’t bring it up,” he warned when Azriel’s eyes darkened.
They dote on their females.
Azriel arrived first, no shadows to be seen, my sister a pale, golden mass in his arms. He, too, wore his Illyrian armor, Elain’s golden-brown hair snagging in some of the black scales across his chest and shoulders. He set her down gently on the foyer carpet, having carried her in through the front door. Elain peered up at his patient, solemn face. Azriel smiled faintly. “Would you like me to show you the garden?” She seemed so small before him, so fragile compared to the scales of his fighting leathers, the breadth of his shoulders. The wings peeking over them. But Elain did not balk from him, did not shy away as she nodded—just once.
&
Azriel’s power gave out on the outskirts of our camp.
The girl, despite the burns and lashings on her moon-white skin, was able to walk.
The gray light of morning had broken over the world, mist clinging to our ankles as we headed into that camp, Azriel still cradling Elain to his chest. He dripped blood behind him the entire time—a trickle compared to the torrent that should be leaking out. Contained only by the patches of power he’d slapped on it. Help—he needed a healer immediately.
Rhys lunged for Azriel, taking Elain from him and gently setting my sister down. Azriel rasped, swaying on his feet, “We need Helion to get these chains off her.” Yet Elain didn’t seem to notice them as she rose up on her toes and kissed the shadowsinger’s cheek. And then walked to me and Nesta, who pulled back long enough to survey Elain’s clean face, her clear eyes.
&
But I strode to my seat—nestled between Amren and Mor—in time to see Elain say to Azriel, “Hello.” Az said nothing. No, he just moved toward her. Mor tensed beside me. But Azriel only took Elain’s heavy dish of potatoes from her hands, his voice soft as night as he said, “Sit. I’ll take care of it.”
WHY are you tensing Mor?
Azriel set the potatoes in the center of the table, Cassian diving right in. Or he tried to. One moment, his hand was spearing toward the serving spoon. The next, it was stopped, Azriel’s scarred fingers wrapped around his wrist. “Wait,” Azriel said, nothing but command in his voice.
They know exactly what their mate needs.
"Is there something wrong with her?” Madja chewed over the words. “I do not like that word—wrong. Different, perhaps. Changed.”
“If anyone can sense if something is amiss, it’s a mate.” “How.” The word was barely more than a barked command. I braced myself to warn Nesta to be polite, but Madja said to my sister, as if she were a small child, “The mating bond. It is a bridge between souls.”
&
“Can I set you up in the garden? The herbs you planted are coming in nicely.” “I can help her,” said Azriel, stepping to the table as Elain silently rose. No shadows at his ear, no darkness ringing his fingers as he extended a hand. Nesta monitored him like a hawk, but kept silent as Elain took his hand, and out they went."
&
“Do you need anything?” “No. I … I was sleeping, but I heard …” She shook her head. Blinked at our formal attire, the dark crown atop my head—and Rhysand’s. “I didn’t hear you.” Azriel stepped forward. “But you heard something else.” Elain seemed about to nod, but only backed away. “I think I was dreaming,” she murmured. “I think I’m always dreaming these days.” “Let me get you some hot milk,” I said, putting a hand on her elbow to guide her into the sitting room. But Elain shook me off, heading back to the stairs. She said as she climbed the first steps, “I can hear her—crying.” I gripped the bottom post of the banister. “Who?” “Everyone thinks she’s dead.”
I faced Azriel, exposing my palms to him. “What does that mean?” Azriel’s hazel eyes churned as he studied my sister, her too-thin body. And without a word, he winnowed away. Mor watched the space where he’d been standing long after he was gone. WHAT are you looking at Mor?
&
But Azriel asked softly, taking a single step over the threshold and into the sitting room, “What other?” Elain’s brows twitched toward each other. “The queen—with the feathers of flame.” The shadowsinger angled his head. Lucien murmured to me, eye still fixed on Elain, “Should we—does she need …?” “She doesn’t need anything,” Azriel answered without so much as looking at Lucien. Elain was staring at the spymaster now—unblinkingly. “We’re the ones who need …” Azriel trailed off. “A seer,” he said, more to himself than us. “The Cauldron made you a seer.”
It made sense, I supposed, that Azriel alone had listened to her.
But Azriel nodded. “You knew,” he said to Elain. “About the young queen turning into a crone.” Elain blinked and blinked, eyes clearing again. As if the understanding, our understanding … it freed her from whatever murky realm she’d been in. “The sixth queen is alive?” Azriel asked, calm and steady, the voice of the High Lord’s spymaster, who had broken enemies and charmed allies. Elain cocked her head, as if listening to some inner voice. “Yes.”
&
“Elain is fine,” Rhys said. “Azriel was at the town house.
&
Elain turned from where she’d been speaking to Nesta. “Oh, that’s from me.” Azriel’s face didn’t so much as shift at the words. Not even a smile as he opened the present and revealed— “I had Madja make it for me,” Elain explained. Azriel’s brows narrowed at the mention of the family’s preferred healer. “It’s a powder to mix in with any drink.” Silence. Elain bit her lip and then smiled sheepishly. “It’s for the headaches everyone always gives you. Since you rub your temples so often.” Silence again. Then Azriel tipped his head back and laughed. I’d never heard such a sound, deep and joyous.
This isn't even half done. There's still so much more evidence I didn't add.
Tell me why these two are literally perfect for each other.
Tell me why Mor, whose gift is Truth, seems like she knows something everyone else doesn't.
Tell me why they are literally yin and yang.
Tell me why Azriel gets more of a response from Elain than anyone else.
Tell me why Azriel has more in depth mate behavior than Lucien.
Tell me why. I want to hear it. Actually don't worry I'll answer for you-
BECAUSE THEY ARE MATES. They are meant FOR EACH OTHER.
Blessed by the Mother or whatever being/thing that brings soul-mates together.
A bond, a relationship, like that cannot and will not be ignored.

if i see one more comment or post about how “3 sisters x 3 brothers is lazy writing” or “elriel is too easy” im setting something on fire i swear. ITS NOT LAZY WRITING. if anything its beautiful and strategic writing. 3 sisters, who were broken and unhappy from the beginning of the story, find 3 brothers and all fall in love with each of them. which, in the end, creates a now happy family dynamic between all of them. IT IS BEAUTIFUL imo. (remember the scene in acomaf where mor draws three figures that look like feyre with 3 bat boys… it’s literally right in our faces! it was strategically placed from the beginning to showcase that all three end up together. it was so obviously placed. like a teaser for the future books.)
people who say elriel would be too easy… it’s actually not if you think about it. elain being with lucien or azriel being with gwyn is actually easy writing. no conflicts. no plots. easy happy endings. nothing. nada. it would be the most boring story ever.
elain and azriel actually create an interesting storyline. yes, we (as in the ones who read the story correctly) know they’ll end up together. but we don’t know HOW. when will the forbidden romance start? what about the elucien bond? will it be broken? was it fake? are elain and azriel actually true mates? what will happen to the political alliances? what about koschei? what about the cauldron? will elain go against it even though it practically worships her? what about elain and rhys? they will most likely create a friendship which then would cause even more conflict with elain and azriels forbidden romance. how will feyre react? will she be pissed? nesta will… how will that cause issues within the IC? what will happen once everyone finds out that rhys forbid azriel from seeing elain? will the brothers have a conflict? will rhys and azriel be strained throughout acotar 6? how will that conflict be resolved?
i can go on and on with questions/what ifs of what storylines could unfold and character dynamics coming or clashing together. THAT is what makes elriel the most interesting storyline. there could (will) be so much conflict. a ton of plot. it will be SO exciting to read. SJM set this up perfectly for it to be such a cool and DIFFERENT book.
so no… it’s not lazy writing to have three sisters with three brothers. it’s beautiful. like imagine at the end where all six of them are just sitting together and being in peace. being happy. being a FAMILY.
and no, elain and azriel are not easy. because they have to FIGHT for their love. unlike feysand and nessian, they became friends first before they fell in love. it wasn’t a “oh now we love each other and look we’re mates!” it’s a “oh we fell in love but fate says otherwise so now we must fight for that choice!” they have so many obstacles ahead of them that it will be a tough journey until the end where they are happy.
it’s what’s going to make the next book sooo good. not lazy. not easy. it’s going to be full of conflict. plot. forbidden romance. going against fate and choosing each other. i cannot wait!

Okay, everyone! Let’s all sit in a little circle and use our brains today 🧠✨
We’re going to play a fun game called: “Connecting Obvious Dots!”
Now let’s look at what the Azriel bonus chapter and the Feysand bonus chapter both had in common.
Was it… Gwyn? Nooope!
Was it… a necklace? Try again!
Oh wait… was it… Elain?Ding ding ding! That’s correct! 🎉
Great job, everyone! Now let’s take it one step further.
We already got a bonus chapter in Azriel’s POV. Hmmm… why would Sarah give us that? Could it be because… he’s the next main male character. OMG YES you're slowly understanding everything.
Now here's the part that gets some of you sweating. Who's been getting her own story foreshadowed, hinted at throughout most of the books?
ELAIN. That's right! The audacity of her narrative revelance.
Now stay with me here... I know some of you find this part extremely difficult.
Azriel bonus POV= next MMC
Elain constantly being hinted at= next FMC
Now if we put these peices together... it means its gonna be an Elriel book
Wow. Now, that wasn't so hard, was it?
(Like Sarah said it's obvious)

Funny how no one ever says “I want Rhys to be happy” or “Poor Cassian deserves a better mate.” But suddenly, when it’s Lucien, everyone turns into a humanitarian. Just say you hate Elain and go, these books are literally about WOMEN. THEIR JOURNEYS, THEIR CHOICES.
I have nothing against Lucien, but reducing Elain to someone undeserving of anything good?
Blatant disrespect.

Really, when Sarah wrote "... if anyone can sense if something is amiss, it's a mate." and then have Azriel figuring it out, that was her being obvious...

yes 🔥 i need a man like azriel. elain you lucky girl.
Imagine having the most intimidating male in Prythian shopping for the perfect necklace for you, getting so jealous of other guys near you that he has to always be near an exit, telling you about the song of the wind because you asked if he can fly, immediately coming for you when you’re in danger even if it means there’s a high chance that it will cost him his life, having to look at the medicine you gifted him in order to fall asleep, getting overwhelmed by the fact that he’s touching your neck, thinking about how he is willing to beg on his fucking knees to please you, thinking of you as the sun at dawn, going against the religious and social he’s known his entire life because he is certain you and him belong together…I would perish. It makes me weak to even think of it.

“elain just needs time to be with lucien and connect with him” uhh girly pop she had SEVERAL books to and she still doesn’t want him. you think it’s going to miraculously happen in one single book when she’s been actually connecting and secretly yearning azriel. you think all those scenes in the background between them just means nothing? NO. please be realistic here. by the end of silver flames, azriel and elain STILL want each other. that. is. CANON. now there is just obstacles between them and miscommunication DUE to those obstacles that is causing conflict (which is shown in the BC)… literally the pattern of any love story. especially forbidden ones.
now, back to the red head. lucien wants the mating bond to work. honestly… i don’t blame him. the cauldron, their religion, tells you that this bond is above all and is beyond sacred. the cauldron tells you that its picking of mates is correct and to not question it. so yes, he wants this bond to work out. i would want my own mating bond to work if i had one to be honest. i don’t blame him for trying. but do i believe that he actually wants elain? no. i dont. he wants his mate. not really elain herself. in my head, those are two singular things. if their was no mating bond to even begin with, i personally do not believe lucien would have even pursued elain.
on a side note, if nesta was chosen as his mate like sjm originally planned, i believe he would do the same exact thing - try to make it work.
by the end of silver flames, i KNOW elain does not want lucien (obviously) and i believe lucien is giving up on it. he’s focusing his attention on others (like the little misfit trio) and is quite possibly finding a connection with a certain someone (hint hint vassa) that he may not realize at the moment. sjm has given the tiniest of hints to this.
now, do i believe that elain and lucien will come to an understanding and possibly become good friends by the end of the next book? yes. i actually hope for that. this would parallel to bad mating bonds, like rhysands and tamlins parents, who should have rejected their bond but didn’t. a rejected bond that ends in civil respect for one another. both finding true love over a so-called sacred bond that neither actually wants. both have had past loves that have ended in tragedies (jesminda and graysen). but this time around, instead of letting the cauldron push them into a relationship, they both defy fate together and choose the love that they truly want (vassa and azriel). now that i find more beautiful than anything else. i know it won’t be easy to get there, but that’s what makes conflict in books interesting to read and so satisfying by the end.
i trust in sjm. at the end of the day, i choose elain over anything else. if sjm makes a beautiful love story with lucien and elain, then so be it. i’m rooting for her and her only. but with the way sjm has written this story with obvious intentions, i don’t believe that’s the route she’s taking. hence, my long ass post and my dedication to elriel. this story will end in a rejected mating bond and choosing who you love for both elain and lucien (or the fact that the cauldron was actually wrong and something is amiss in its pickings of true mates… but that’s a post for another time).
sjm please announce this book soon. i’m going stir crazy.

Let’s set the record straight:
The bonus chapter from A Court of Silver Flames is not some sweeping, swoony love scene. It’s a quiet, emotionally painful look at a man wrestling with feelings he doesn’t believe he’s allowed to have. From the first page, we learn that Azriel isn’t in a place of romantic bliss—he’s in emotional torment:
“Too many wants and needs left his skin overheated and pulling taut across his bones.”
“So he slept only when his body gave out.”
This is a man haunted. Not content, not satisfied. His insomnia isn’t caused by lust—it’s caused by internal war between desire and restraint. He aches for Elain but doesn’t act on it. He denies himself even the right to imagine a future with her:
“He hadn’t gotten that far with his planning, certainly not beyond the fantasies he pleasured himself to.”
That isn’t evidence of one-dimensional lust. It’s an admission that he can’t let himself hope. The physical fantasies are all he allows, because believing in anything more feels dangerous. This is shame, not indulgence. Then the scene turns heated. Azriel has desire for Elain. No one denies that.
But look closely: it’s not casual. It’s tortured, controlled, and rooted in shame.
“It was a sacrilege for his fingers to touch her skin, tainting her with his presence.”
That isn’t lust.
Lust doesn’t think you’re unworthy.
Lust doesn’t call touch “sacrilege.”
Lust doesn’t ache and pull back and self-loathe.
His thoughts are carnal and conflicted. That’s key. When Elain leans in and gives him verbal and non-verbal consent, it nearly destroys him. This isn’t a man chasing gratification. This is a man drowning in emotion. If all he wanted was sex, he would’ve taken it. She was willing. The room was empty. No one was watching. But he didn’t. Instead, when Rhys interrupts him, Azriel steps back. He apologizes. He says “This was a mistake.”
This is restraint. This is guilt. This is not lust-driven behavior. He doesn’t resent Elain for the moment. He isn’t frustrated that it was ruined. He’s devastated because he’s convinced it can never happen again. Azriel’s training scene with Gwyn is emotionally disconnected. He notices her improvement. . He trains her like he trains others. But the tone is completely different. There’s no pining. No aching. No shame. He gives her the necklace not out of desire, but out of kindness and guilt.
“Tell her it was from Rhys.”
He doesn’t want credit. He doesn’t want it to be known that he even gave her anything. Let's not forget the Gwyn scene happened when Azriel was in emotional withdrawal. He just winnowed away from the most painful interaction he’s had.The bonus chapter is not about Elain being nothing more than a sexual fantasy. It’s about Azriel’s deep internal conflict—his desire, his guilt, and the love he believes he’ll never be allowed to act on. If you’re only reading the chapter for what he says out loud, you’re missing the entire emotional subtext. Because if anything is clear in this chapter, it’s this: He wants Elain.
But more than that—he believes he can’t have her. And that’s not lust. Also—this is one chapter from Azriel’s POV. That’s it. One. Scene. To base an entire argument about the depth of Elain and Azriel’s connection off of a single emotionally repressed moment—while ignoring the many other scenes across the series where their dynamic is built up—is reductive at best. It’s also hypocritical. Because when people talk about Gwynriel, they refer to a few just a few interactions, and suddenly that’s evidence of deep romantic compatibility. Yet Elain and Azriel? They’ve exchanged gifts. Shared glances. Been attuned to each other’s presence in nearly every book. But all of that is dismissed because one chapter doesn’t spell it out in emotional prose? That’s not objective analysis. That’s cherry-picking.

Elain is pleasant to look at, her mother had once mused while Nesta sat beside her dressing table, a servant silently brushing her mother’s goldbrown hair, but she has no ambition. She does not dream beyond her garden and pretty clothes. She will be an asset on the marriage market for us one day, if that beauty holds, but it will be our own maneuverings, Nesta, not hers, that win us an advantageous match. Nesta had been twelve at the time. Elain barely eleven.
My Nesta. Elain shall wed for love and beauty, but you, my cunning little queen … You shall wed for conquest.
I think this is important and deserves some analysis.
What Mama Archeron said about Elain may seem contradictory at first, but at its core it wasn't ,it was intentional. That was her strategy.
Their mother planned to arrange Elain's marriage, but she also wanted it to appear as though Elain were marrying for love which was merely an illusion. Elain was the beautiful, sweet, docile daughter perfect for a love match on the surface and her mother saw value in presenting her as unambitious. A beautiful, pleasant, passive girl with no visible agenda would be far more attractive to powerful suitors, especially in aristocratic or courtly settings where appearances mean everything.
And we can see how effective that image was from Elain's own words when she said that she have never truly been looked at. That single sentence says so much. It means that all the men she had met, with the exception of Grayson at the time only saw her outer beauty. None of them ever truly tried to understand her or love her for who she was beneath the surface.
Their mother essentially wanted to market Elain as a prize a delicate flower that a prince or noble would want to "win," not realizing he was walking straight into a trap of their own making.
It's deeply ironic when you think about it , Elain's mother pretended to be giving her a perfect fate, full of love and beauty but in truth she was denying her any real agency.
Which if you ask me is very similar to what I call the fake bond , the one I believe is between Elain and Lucien. It forces fae who are not truly compatible to stay together under the illusion of ultimate love, when in reality it exists only to produce powerful offspring. That serves the agenda of the Daglan who manipulated the Cauldron and fed on fae power.
Going back to how Elain was raised, she was conditioned to believe she had no ambition or dreams beyond her flowers and gowns, and she began to live into that expectation which became a kind of imprisonment for her. But even so, she still grew into someone more complex, which is clearly shown through her development in the series and it's powerful.
Elain chose who she wanted to be with when she was human, she gave him her heart willingly.
She survived the void of the Cauldron, which says everything.
She chose to help the Night Court politically, knowing her heart would break.
She picked up a knife when she had never even held one and did what no one expected, she killed the KoH . That moment wasn't given to her randomly and I believe it will be proven when SJM finally decides to free us.
SJM took what Mama Archeron did to her daughters and turned it into something empowering, which I find well written.
Feyre the daughter her mother neglected, became High Lady with the seven powers of the high lords and mated to the most powerful high lord of all.
Nesta the daughter her mother saw as sharp, meant to be used to gain control over wealth, lands and power ,she became a Valkyrie and fell in love with a general.
And Elain? She will indeed marry for love and beauty but on her own terms. The bond will not decide for her.
In my opinion, the moment Lucien told Elain she was his mate while she was still traumatized and while he was a stranger , their relationship was doomed. SJM already decided they are not endgame. Simply because in that moment, he stripped her agency. He could never be a real choice for her, because it would always be conditioned by the existence of the bond. And being with him adds absolutely nothing to her development as a character.
So if you look at Elain's arc it's clear where it's heading. Her story makes perfect sense: she will reject the bond and choose her own fate. Love triumphing over the mating bond will be her ultimate growth. She will break the toxic fae assumptions surrounding the bond and challenge what countless fae females endured for centuries having to meet fae expectations and follow their rigid mating rules. That is a powerful development for her.
Elain will live her peaceful garden life, but she will also train and go on important missions to help the NC.
And that image the beautiful girl who only dreams of gardens and dresses ,the one everyone assumes is passive, harmless and easy to mold? That's exactly what will make her an excellent spy. Just like the women spies of WW2 whom SJM has spoken about before.
Yeah
Watch the soft princess challenge fate, become a spy and fall in love with the spymaster of the NC because she chose him. Not a bond.

“It made sense that Azriel alone had listened to her [Elain]. The male who heard things others could not . . . Perhaps he, too, had suffered as Elain had before he understood what gift he possessed.” -ACOWAR Chapter 33
Something I found interesting while reading the series is how organically SJM ties Azriel and Elain together narratively through impactful and pivotal developments to both characters. When Elain says earlier in chapter 24 no one ever hears her or sees her, that no one ever really tries to and everyone else believed she was going mad-it was only Azriel who attempted to understand her. Azriel didn’t give innocuous, generic suggestions of taking her outside, he listened to her and truly saw her. Azriel met her where she was, his understanding became the light that guided her out of the murky realm of visions clouding her mind.
🌸🦇🌸🦇
I can not get over how perfectly @renitorii captured the state of Elain’s mind and Azriel holding her fast, an anchor in her storm. Thank you thank you @renitorii for being so incredible through this whole process, it was such a pleasure to work with you! ❤️❤️

how powerful do you think our girl elain is going to be? i’ve been thinking nonstop about it for some reason. like obviously the cauldron worships her so im curious to see if it gave her something beyond the initial seer powers.
i’m hoping she can see beyond worlds and into other SJM universes (like TOG/CC). maybe we get a little snippet of how Aelin is doing (i miss her lol). i’m also hoping she has some type of power with nature and life, which would parallel with Nesta as Lady Death. so many fanfics have dived into this and I NEED IT.
i just want her to have a huge moment in the book where it blows the characters and readers away. i need a moment where the elain haters who call her useless can shut up for good (even though she’s not). either way, i do have a feeling she’s going to be powerful and the cauldron will have its moments with her that we haven’t seen from any other characters. im just so curious to know how powerful! i needed this book yesterday. i dont know how much my mental state can take this wait.

a healthy reminder that casual readers (who stay offline) know who the next book is about.
my manager from work and I were talking about book series and I brought up ACOTAR. we gushed about it then I decided to bring up the next book.
our ACTUAL conversation:
Me: “So… who do you think the next book is about?”
Her: “Elain obviously! She’s the last sister.”
Me: “And… who do you want to her to end up with?”
Her: “Well definitely not Lucien.”
Me: “Oh.. then who?”
Her: “Uh.. Azriel, who else? It’s obvious.”
Me: “Thank you! People online think she’s going to end up with Lucien and Azriel ends up with Gwyn.”
Her: “Huh? Gwyn and Azriel? That makes no sense. They don’t even interact much. They literally do not make sense together.”
Me: “I KNOW!”
there is just one example.
another example.
my mom (who is finishing up ACOSF at the moment) had this discussion with me at the end of ACOWAR. she also stays offline.
our ACTUAL conversation:
Me: “So… who do you want the bat boys to end up with?”
Her: “Like Cassian and Azriel?”
Me: “Yes, those two.”
Her: “Well, Nesta and Elain.”
Me: “What makes you say that?”
Her: “I… thought it was pretty obvious.”
BECAUSE IT IS. you don’t need an english degree to figure this out people. SJM makes it clear, even from ACOMAF. from the bat boys meeting the archeron sisters, to mor drawing 3 stick figures that look like feyre next to three bat boys, to every CANON interaction afterward. it’s always been 3 sisters x 3 brothers. ITS. ALWAYS. BEEN. OBVIOUS.
casual readers read the books how they’re supposed to with no one telling them online who to ship because it’s IN THE BOOKS. this isn’t rocket science!
before i joined the online discourse i shipped elain and azriel. to my surprise, when i hopped on for the first time, ready to share the love of the two characters, i went head first into a war zone with no warning... because i didn’t think i would need one! i thought everyone shipped them together!
SJM & bloomsbury need to release this book already. i’m sick of the stupidity i see online. they just need to drop it with no announcement at this point.

louder for the idiots in the back
Reason number 94833575827 why Elriel and Nessian were always meant to be, and that once SJM started to write ACOMAF both couples were set in stone. Yes, that means no Moriel, no Mossian, and Nescien and no Elucien.
How do we know? Simple. The first Archeron sisters and bat boys meeting.
Because...why were the bat boys even there?
if not to meet their future mates?
Let's break it down, shall we?
When Rhys first brought Feyre to the Moon Palace, when she was still nearly human and pretty terrified, who did he invite over?
Mor.
Bubbly. FEMALE. Kind. Friendly. Non-threatening.
Wouldn't it have made much more sense to bring Mor to the meeting with the sisters? She is still Rhysand's third, she is a female, she is a warrior, she winnows, and she has all kinds of magical magic.
Instead, Rhysand (SJM) goes for total overkill. Why in the world did he need to bring not one, but two enormous warriors with him? What was the point of them at that meeting? None. They are huge, intimidating, maybe even terrifying, and not exactly known for their letter writing abilities. Rhys didn't need THAT much protection, even from any rogue elements from Prythian. He managed to handle the Attor quite well himself.
So, he drags these two huge Illyrian warriors to the human lands, to meet two human girls. Why? All they did was eat some dry human chicken, bickered, and left.
If Mor was there, wouldn't she have made everyone much more relaxed? She would've joked and laughed and teased. She was already friends with Feyre, so the sisters would've felt much more comfortable with her rather than two Illyrian-leather clad warriors.
But Mor wasn't there. The bat boys came instead. To meet their girls. To meet their future mates. And the dynamic for both couples was set right from that meeting. Nesta' and Cassian, both abrasive and bickering, two warriors egging each other on, their attraction raw and sexual. And Elain and Azriel, calm and quiet, seeking comfort in each other, polite, well-mannered, their attraction already wrought with complexities, but also undeniable.
Nine years later, people are still arguing about this. Yet everything was clearly set up during that first fateful meeting.
