Chapter 3 Courage
It had been a few days since Link had started his journey to gather ingredients for the village feast. He had almost all of the ingredients necessary, and now there was just one final stop to make.
"Hyrule Castle Town," Link cooed at Epona. "We're almost there!"
Link was most excited to go there for a reason he shared with no one in Hateno: to see his father once again. Link used to make this trip with his father every year, but as he was now an adult, and his father went to work as a Royal Guard at Hyrule Castle eleven moons ago, Link hadn't seen his father in almost a year.
On his way, Link passed many sights, several old houses, beautiful natural formations, and the old ruins of LonLon Ranch. He couldn't shake the feeling that someone was watching him, but every time he turned around there was nothing to be seen but the occasional Bokoblin or Moblin roasting food over an open fire.
Overall, his trip had been rather calm and uneventful, which he was grateful for, as he almost believed that the nightmare he had before this journey was a bad omen of things to come. This trip proved peaceful, so he finally let himself disregard the dream. Everyone has nightmares. Why should he think too deeply about his own?
As he reached the entrance to Hyrule Castle town, however, the guards at the gate stopped him "Hold it! State your name and business for being here!" one of them shouted, with his Spear at Link's neck.
Link found it odd that they were stopping him here so violently, it never happened before, but perhaps a lot has changed in a year. Link spoke, "I'm Link, I'm from Hateno Village, and I'm here to buy some ingredients and a recipe for our annual feast."
The guard reluctantly lowered his spear as the other said, "Alright, before we let you in we'll have to inspect your bags,"
They looked over at Link's back, where he had his sword and shield. "and your weapons."
Link was confused. "Why?", he objected.
The guards glared at him. "We are tightening our security after recent events! Do not question our authority!"
At this point, Link was frustrated. He took a deep breath, knowing that getting into it with the guards here would be a really bad idea.
"Okay, you can look," He handed his sword to one of the guards while the other looked through his luggage, only finding money, days' supply of food, and the ingredients gathered for the feast. Meanwhile, the other guard pulled out a piece of paper with a drawing on it and compared it to his sword. This puzzled Link even more.
They eventually nodded at each other. They gave Link his sword back and stopped going through his things, "Alright, you're free to pass through."
The gates then swung open and Link and Epona entered.

Chapter 2 Wizzro
Yuga toiled away at the ring for hours, testing spells on it over and over to try and break the seal keeping the ancient wizard inside.
"Hmph, whoever sealed away the spirit in this ring sure knew their magic, I'll give them that...", Yuga frowned.
He decided to take a break and paint for a while. Despite his innate ability to turn others into paintings, there was just something about making one the old-fashioned way that still spoke to him. It helped him relieve his stress and calm down to think. As he painted he began to hum to himself.
It was a painting of the Triforce with Link, Zelda, and Ganondorf from the era of Warriors each in the center of their respective pieces. As he painted he looked at the hero and new thoughts started clouding his mind. He began mumbling to himself "The hero has to be back in this era, especially if the princess and my lord are back themselves...there has to be some way to lure him out... Link, where are you, young one..."
As Yuga said Link's name, there was a rumble behind him. He looked away from the painting he was working on at the ring, which was now surrounded by a cloudy dark purple energy.
"Link..." A dark, scratchy voice began to emanate from the ring, "The damned hero of Hyrule...always getting in my way to destroy my monsters...". A monstrous, bony hand erupted from the ring.

Sometimes people say they want more Zelda games without Ganondorf but see what *I* want is a game where like half the incidental characters you meet are obviously just Ganondorf in disguise spying on you.

Chapter 1 Morning of Nightmares
Link woke up and went about his daily routine. Bathed himself in the pond outside, went back inside to get himself dressed, and then left to get ingredients. As he walked across the bridge that connected his house to the rest of Hateno Village, one of his neighbors greeted him.
"Good morning Link! Beautiful day, isn't it?"
"Of course! I have some trips to make today. Epona and I are visiting Hyrule Castle Town, Kakariko Village, and Rito Village to get some ingredients for our town's founding celebration feast!", Link gushed. "I am looking forward to the feast!"
His neighbor smiled "Ah, I knew we could count on you, young one! Thank you!"
Link gave him a quick smile before walking to the stable where Epona was waiting "Alright, are you ready, girl? We've got a long day ahead of us."

Prologue
Written by ShadowSear
Edited by ok-seventhsage
Location: Central Hyrule
Hylians, Zora, Gorons, Rito, Sheikah, and Gerudo could all be seen for miles, gathered around a new building in Central Hyrule. It was a museum, built by Hyrule's King to preserve Hyrule's long history. Best yet, the king was holding the opening ceremony. Beside him were his daughter, Princess Zelda, and their loyal servant, Impa.
"Ladies and gentlemen of all races and ages! I, King of Hyrule, am here to announce the grand opening of the Hyrule History Museum! The first of its kind in ages!", the King said in a booming voice. With that, the King cut the ribbon in front of the museum, and there was a massive cheer from everyone in the crowd. No one would notice the hooded female figure hidden in the alley nearby, with secret dark intentions.
"Father, this was a great idea!", Zelda cried as the crowd started to enter the museum. "Hyrule has such a rich history that's almost been lost to the ages on several occasions! This museum is a perfect way to preserve it!" She was beaming with pride.
The King looked down and smiled at Zelda. While he never told her, one of his reasons for establishing this museum was to celebrate his daughter's 18th birthday. Ever since she was small, she was always fascinated with Hyrule's history.
Impa chimed in, "I'm just surprised we managed to get all of the race leaders in Hyrule to contribute to this project..." She was clearly surprised. "Especially the Gerudo. After all, Chief Ganondorf has been rather... difficult to deal with lately."
"Maybe his contributions to this museum were meant to be a way to make peace. You know, apologize." Zelda said, eagerly.
The King looked away, for while he knew none of the contributions made by the Gerudo were malicious in any way, he also knew that the Gerudo chief's intentions weren't an apology of any sort. However, he chose not to tell his daughter this, for he knew her goal as Queen was to one day unite the entirety of Hyrule and break the cycle of destruction. Despite his doubts about something like that ever coming to fruition, he still believed he had to try, for Zelda's sake. This museum could be a good way to start things off.
"Well, father! Impa! Let's not keep them waiting!" Zelda sang, referring to the crowd of people waiting for the first tour of the museum, guided by the King of Hyrule himself.
"Right, you are, my daughter. Men! Impa! Come, let us go forth." The King boomed, as he and Zelda walked inside, with Impa and their guards following close behind.
Only a few steps inside was enough to prove that the museum had many awe-inspiring sights. For starters, there were statues of two ancient dragons of Light and Dark dueling.
"Long ago in Hyrule's History, it was said that the Princess of Hyrule and the Demon King had both transformed into dragons, with the Hero and Princess fighting the Demon King in his most powerful form, driven by his desire to destroy the world," the King said, presenting the statue at the opening. The crowd gasped, looking at the statue. On top of the Light Dragon's head was a smaller statue in the shape of the Hero of Hyrule, Link, wielding the Sword that Seals the Darkness.
Each sector of the museum was split into different exhibits, each based on a different Era of Hyrule's history. The Era of Skies exhibit displayed relics from history when Hyrule was once one with the sky. The Era of Time exhibit displayed relics from when the Hero traveled through time to save Hyrule. The Era of Seas exhibit displayed many relics from when Hyrule was once flooded, and so on.
Eventually, the group arrived at the Era of Warriors exhibit. The King explained, "The relics on display here are from when Hyrule's split history finally re-collided into one once again. It was said that a dark sorceress controlled by the Demon King used her powers to pull different Eras from across Time and Space, and while her intentions weren't pure, many believe her actions made Hyrule whole once again." While most of the crowd was listening to the King's magical retellings of Hyrule's history, one person in the crowd seemed to have wandered off and was looking at one thing in particular. The dark-hooded woman from earlier was staring directly at a Golden Ring with a Ruby gem stored inside one of the display cases.
Zelda took notice of this person and walked over to her.
"Oh, are you interested in that item, ma'am?", Zelda inquired. "Well, it's believed that ring once held the spirit of an evil wizard during the Era of Warriors. This wizard started as a servant of the sorceress, but eventually turned his back on her to follow the Demon King instead, forcing the sorceress to re-imprison the wizard herself!"
The woman stared at the ring for a little longer, then turned to Zelda "Tell me, young girl: do you truly believe that peace can be achieved in this world?" She had a look of urgency in her eyes.
Zelda looked puzzled at first, but her expression shifted, "Well, of course! If everyone's willing, we should be able to break the cycle of destruction that has plagued Hyrule for generations!" Zelda said with a smile anyone could mistake for naivete. The woman sensed that the princess wasn't naive, she was hopeful and wise beyond her years.
There was a deep screech in the distance, but nobody seemed to notice it over the bustling crowd inside the museum. The hooded woman finally gave Zelda a response: "If that is the way that you think, then there can never be peace. There will always be someone willing to oppose it." The woman then paused for a second, inched closer to Zelda, and uttered, "Listen, no matter what happens- don't you dare lose hope."
Before Zelda could respond there was a loud crash. The glass ceiling of the exhibit came shattering down.
"ZELDA! GET BACK HERE, NOW!", Impa screamed, sprinting toward the princess.
As Zelda tried to get back to her father and Impa, a dark shadow descended upon the crowd. Above them was a scarlet red bird with black markings and bright blue eyes. The bird let out a screech just like the one from before.
"What in the name of the goddess Hylia is that?!", Impa yelled.
"We'll have to worry about that later," the King shouted, "Quickly, get my daughter to safet-"
He was cut off mid-sentence as the hooded woman from before stabbed him from behind with a long steel sword, knocking him away from Impa and Zelda. Zelda screamed. The woman was holding the Red Ring from the display case. "I'm afraid that won't be an option, King. The decision has been made, and your life is forfeit." Her face scarily bore no emotion. The bird then descended upon the crowd as the woman swiftly mounted it. They started to fly away with one final message: "No king rules forever...Yveltal, Decimation!".
The bird let out one last screech as its body crackled with dark electricity, and it sent a strong shock wave down on the crowd. Impa closed her eyes, and the last thing she heard was Zelda's distraught screams as a deafening ring started to fill her ears. She waited, and waited...but nothing happened. When she opened her eyes again, she couldn't believe what she saw. Zelda's hand was glowing with a piece of the triforce, creating a barrier to protect the two of them.
As Zelda gasped and fell to her knees, the dust settled, revealing a horrifying sight. All of those not protected by the barrier had been turned into stone statues. Cold and lifeless. Impa turned at guards who had just barged in, "Search the rubble for survivors! NOW!".
As the guards started searching, Impa heard Zelda quietly sobbing behind her. Impa turned around, and she couldn't believe the scene before her... she realized that the attacker had anticipated that Zelda could protect herself. Impa knew who her true target was.
In the middle of the lifeless crowd lay the cold, stone statue of Zelda's father lying on the floor, his final moments forever preserved in stone. Zelda cupped his face in her hands and continued to sob.
Location: Gerudo Desert
As she landed in the barren deserts of Gerudo, the hooded woman dismounted Yveltal, who gave a small screech of confusion. The woman rolled her eyes, "Yveltal, due to your size, if I landed you near Gerudo town, everyone would know of Ganondorf's involvement in this immediately. Sit tight here. I'll be back for you.". She entered Gerudo Town and headed straight for the chief's throneroom. In the Gerudo Chief's presence, she bowed.
Ganondorf looked down at her with authority, "Hmph, Madame X...". His voice was intimidating. "You were only gone for a day. You better have completed your task like I asked of you."
Ganondorf looked around his throne room and waved his hand, a silent signal for his guards to leave the room. As they did, Madame X removed her hood, revealing her rounded, non-Hylian ears, crimson eyes, and black hair. At the sight, a figure emerged from a passageway behind Ganondorf's throne. It was Yuga, a sorcerer from another kingdom. He was known amongst his ranks for his obsession with beauty and his ability to trap anyone inside his paintings.
"Ah, Madame X, so good to see you've taken your hood off! You know, you always look so much prettier when you don't hide your beauty!", Yuga creepily swooned. "Now, why are you back so early? You have completed your task, yes? Do we have to remind you of the price of failure?". He smiled, and a blank portrait appeared behind Madame X.
Ganondorf nodded, "Yes, as much as we feel you and your organization can be great allies to us, Madame X... we don't tolerate failure. So, speak. And remember to choose your words wisely."
Despite the looming threat of eternal imprisonment behind her, Madame X remained calm. "Believe me, Ganondorf, failure is something I don't tolerate either. The task you have asked of me is completed. Your plan to use the museum opening as an opportunity to assassinate the King when he was most vulnerable was successful. The King of Hyrule is no more than a lifeless statue. If you don't believe me, I am sure a message will soon be sent out to all of Hyrule's leaders about the King's unfortunate demise."
Ganondorf pondered this for a second and then nodded, and signaled at Yuga to back down. Yuga groaned as the portrait behind Madame X disappeared. However, he quickly smiled again and said, "Ah, well, you may not be joining my collection today, but the story you brought us! What sweet irony! The King of Hyrule is now the final exhibit to the museum that he made to bring peace to Hyrule! Honestly, the twisted cruelty of events is delightful!" Yuga's smile faded as quickly as it had appeared. "However, I do pity that poor princess...no parents left to take care of her..."
Ganondorf smirked, "Yes... Finally, the King has paid his debts for the sin of abandoning my people. It would've been such a privilege to plunge my blade into his chest myself, but I won't let the deed you've done for us go unappreciated. Tell your master that he now has the full support of the Demon King and his forces." Ganondorf paused for a moment then nodded at Madame X. "You may rise, now."
Madame X rose from her kneeling position, bowed once more, and saw herself out. Before she got to the door, however, she turned to the Gerudo Chief and brought out the ring she had stolen from the museum. "Before I leave, there is one last thing I thought I'd provide you. The princess of Hyrule told me that this ring once belonged to your servants, and might even house his soul. I thought perhaps you would appreciate having another body to help you, Ganondorf." She then tossed the Ruby Ring to Ganondorf who caught it mid-air and examined it.
Ganondorf took a moment before handing the ring to Yuga "Here, do what you can to undo the seals and free the soul of our ally who is trapped inside Yuga."
Yuga took the ring with delight, "Ah, what a beautiful ring!", he cheered. "The golden glow of the metal, the shining ruby adornment! Ah! It would be my deepest honor to work with such a beautiful jewel, Ganondorf!" Yuga's enthusiasm was almost pathetic.
Madame X turned back towards the exit, "I hate to ruin this reunion, but I have places to be. Just remember, Ganondorf, in our conquest we will need each other. United we can destroy our enemy forces with a dark vengeance, while they're scattered in pain and confusion."
When Madame X was finally gone, Ganondorf walked outside and looked up at the dark bird flying away in the deep night sky. He sighed deeply and whispered, "You know nothing of my true ambitions...".
