1. I have aphantasia, so zero visualization!

2. I can “hear” my daydreams to some extent, but it isn’t very vivid. For example, I “hear” characters’ dialogue in my own inner “voice,” not theirs.

3. It depends on the type of scene - if the characters aren’t moving, I don’t feel the need to either, but for action scenes I prefer to be doing something, often pacing or imitating the movement of the characters. If a character gets knocked to the ground, you’d best believe I’m going to fling myself onto the floor. xD (I can do either type of scene either way if circumstances require it - sadly, it isn’t acceptable to act out fight scenes at work - but I do prefer to move or be still according to the scene.)

okay i am really curious about something and i have some questions - 

how clearly are you guys able to visualize things when you daydream? like do you have aphantasia (the inability to visualize mental images) or can you “see” extremely vivid/realistic scenes in your head?

how well can you “hear” your thoughts when you daydream?

do you pace, do some other repetitive movement, or are you usually still when you daydream?

i can both see and hear my daydreams extremely vividly and i typically stay still when i daydream (i can daydream while moving but i don’t prefer it)

the one huge thing that madd has done for me is inevitably lead to me learning about a bunch of different social and political topics

oh, my fantasy kingdom needs a form of government? time to watch a bunch of hour-long YouTube documentaries on various forms of government, their strengths, and their weak points

oh, I’d like to have a POC in my daydream but I haven’t shared their experiences? time to pick up some books in the library centered around their culture and hope I can focus on them in between daydreams

oh, I’d like to base some of my sci fi creatures in science? better Google a crash course on biology so I have a basic understanding off of which to build

So I saw the paraday post going around and I was thinking, what if we had an inktober-esque thing for madders to share things about their paras/parames

Like we’d have a 30 day challenge of sorts and madders could write or draw things related to the prompts

We could do it in may and call it PARA-MAY

How long have you had MaDD? As far back as I can remember. I had a Black Beauty paracosm when I was 3 or so.

When did you discover the term/community? I’ve known my daydreaming was unusual since the day middle school me asked why novels never mention what kind of ongoing stories the characters have in their heads. At that point, the only study that had been done called us “fantasy prone” and there was just a tiny, frustrated online presence that wasn’t taken seriously. I checked in several years later to find we had a better name now, but couldn’t get a community to stick. Now, another couple years later, I’ve discovered there is a community now! I’ve spent years using my own terminology, so I’ll have to get used to “paras” and “paracosms,” but it’s exciting to finally meet other MaDDers!

Is there a special meaning behind the name of your blog? How did you choose it? My url, shatterplot, is the name of a poem I wrote about MaDD back when I was first trying to figure it out. My blog title is from the Keane song, Spiralling:

But now I only see my dreams in everything I touch

Feel their cold hands on everything that I love

Hi, I’m a new MaDD blog...

Hey, I’m Sou and I’ve known I had MaDD since back when the only study out there called it “fantasy prone” and nobody took us seriously. I’m thrilled that there’s a community now, and I’m excited to join it. 

All my paracosms are based on fiction or history, they all center around two main characters (although almost all of them have extensive, developed worlds) and I usually stick with one for months at a time before switching to another in my deck.

In addition to MaDD, which I’ve had for as long as I can remember, I’ve got a whole collection of disorders including anxiety and depression. I’m also totally unable to visualize things, including my daydreams.

If anyone is interested, I will gleefully talk about my paras and worlds. I’ve spent my whole life wanting to share them with someone and never finding anyone who wanted to know. I’ll answer questions about anything else too. I’m just really excited to meet other people like me and learn more about this thing we do.
