I suck at writing, now what?
There are moments in your life when you realize you suck at something. I know I suck at photography, so I thought I’ll write about photography. Well, I suck at wiring too. Since I love photography, I should focus on it.
No more articles, just pictures from now on.

Having fun with historical photography processes this winter. Done couple of test prints before I finished the 24x48 cm print from Austrian Alps.

Instax Monochrome is not Monochrome
Various reviews on the web mentions that new Instax Mini Monochrome film is not actually fully monochrome. I still didn’t have opportunity to try out this media, but I’m not sure I’ll actually will, given the higher price and issues that reviewers are mentioning.
Following picture is borrowed from emulsive.org webpage:

You can clearly see yellow/greenish cast in the BW photos on the right. Is this just problem with first batch of media and will be fixed, or is it something which we have to live with? There’s currently not much options for BW instant media, and all of them have some flaws. But printing BW photo with green cast seems like a huge issue to me.

GALAXY PHOTOGRAPHY does it again!
Galaxy Photography launched new campaign on Kickstarter. This time they are trying to make dry glass plates. The outcome should be very similar to wet plate collodion, which sounds amazing. They will be shipping several sizes of plates, compatible dry plate holders has to be purchased separately. If you're into large format photography, I suggest you not to miss this opportunity!

Film’s not dead
“Film is dead” was the quote of the past 10 years. Nobody is brave enough to say that in 2016. Film is not dead, and is doing pretty well. We still have companies which do film, and we still have cameras to put the film into! Most of the chemicals are still widely available. Film has moved from commercial photography to fine art, and is much more valued over digital data among collectors.
B/W media
Wide selection of B/W media is available for everybody who shoots or would like to start shooting film. Companies as Kodak, Ilford, Foma or Fujifilm still produce their B/W line of materials, and you can get it almost everywhere. From grain-less ISO 50 to ISO 3200, film photographers doesn’t need to do any compromises. All the chemicals for developing the media are widely available too, and with a little bit of equipment everybody can try the magic of darkroom.
COLOR media
The situation with color media is quite similar, but not the same. One of my favourite film is no longer available (Kodak Kodachrome), but still wide range of color media is available for us. Companies as Kodak (Portra 160, Portra 400, Ektar 100), Fujifilm (PRO-400H, Superia X-TRA) are still selling well, and hopefully will stay with us for couple more decades. Chemicals for C-41 process are still widely available too.
LOMOGRAPHY
So far we covered more professional films, but there’s more! There are special Lomography films in various ISO/ASA values. Worth mentioning are also films from Revolog. Most of these films are developed using C-41 process, so you don’t have to worry how to develop it. It usually provides unique colorful look, and some films like Revolog Volvox are covered by special spots which should make your photo even more interesting. It’s up to everyone to decide whether this is something to look at. I’ll certainly cover these films in some future blog posts.
INSTANT media
Nobody should forget about instant media. The situation is not ideal there, Polariod discontinued their films many years ago. The good thing though is that the community and interest in these media is big (and is raising), and so Impossible Project was born. This company continues developing square format polaroids for all lovely cameras. It’s quite expensive though. There was more affordable instant film available, but some months ago Fujifilm announced that they will no longer produce FP-100C instant film. This film could be used in some Polaroid cameras as well as in nearly all medium and large format cameras. Impossible company is trying to continue developing FP-100C too, but I suspect the price point will be much higher than the original. It might sound that using instant film is very expensive. There’s one more available option, which is with comparison to others quite cheap. It’s Fujifilm INSTAX. There are 2 sizes, one is called MINI, second WIDE. I quite like the media, but hate the cameras. The cameras are fully automatic and very unpredictable. Very good for some party shots, not so good for more artistic work. I have developed some tweaks how to take great pictures with Fujifilm INSTAX, and will cover it in some future posts.
MOVIES and others
My knowledge is very limited in movies and film developing, but most of us certainly saw the news that Kodak is developing new analog camera for enthusiasts. So it seems it’s coming back from every possible way.
GALAXY PHOTOGRAPHY
I have left this one for the end. Why? Because it’s the best one. It’s my dream film. It’s positive. After developing you’re getting the picture on paper, not negative. Picture says 1000 words, so here you have it.

I’ll certainly get hands on that special paper, so you can expect some review as soon as the film is available in Europe. Yes, it will be sold both in Europe and US, so that’s really awesome news.
Stay tuned, more juicy stuff is coming!
