When Brazilian graphic designer Carol Rossetti began posting colorful illustrations of women and their stories to Facebook, she had no idea how popular they would become.Â
Thousands of shares throughout the world later, the appeal of Rosetti’s work is clear. Much like the street art phenomenon Stop Telling Women To Smile, Rossetti’s empowering images are the kind you want to post on every street corner, as both a reminder and affirmation of women’s bodily autonomy.Â
“It has always bothered me, the world’s attempts to control women’s bodies, behavior and identities,” Rossetti told Mic via email. “It’s a kind of oppression so deeply entangled in our culture that most people don’t even see it’s there, and how cruel it can be.”
Rossetti’s illustrations touch upon an impressive range of intersectional topics, including LGBTQ identity, body image, ageism, racism, sexism and ableism. Some characters are based on the experiences of friends or her own life, while others draw inspiration from the stories many women have shared across the Internet.Â
“I see those situations I portray every day,” she wrote. “I lived some of them myself.”
Despite quickly garnering thousands of enthusiastic comments and shares on Facebook, the project started as something personal — so personal, in fact, that Rossetti is still figuring out what to call it. For now, the images reside in albums simply titled “WOMEN in english!“ or ”Mujeres en español!“ which is fitting: Rossetti’s illustrations encompass a vast set of experiences that together create a powerful picture of both women’s identity and oppression.
One of the most interesting aspects of the project is the way it has struck such a global chord. Rossetti originally wrote the text of the illustrations in Portuguese, and then worked with an Australian woman to translate them to English. A group of Israeli feminists also took it upon themselves to create versions of the illustrations in Hebrew. Now, more people have reached out to Rossetti through Facebook and offered to translate her work into even more languages. Next on the docket? Spanish, Russian, German and Lithuanian.
It’s an inspiring show of global solidarity, but the message of Rossetti’s art is clear in any language. Above all, her images celebrate being true to oneself, respecting others and questioning what society tells us is acceptable or beautiful.
“I can’t change the world by myself,” Rossetti said. “But I’d love to know that my work made people review their privileges and be more open to understanding and respecting one another.””

I truly hope WWE stops releasing these incredibly talented wrestlers and instead releases someone like JD McDonagh, Austin Theory, or Nikita Lyons.

Really needed this. This is so beautiful.
Idk man it’s so easy to get bogged down in all the bullshit online but when my then-6 year old cousin found out I was trans he said “ok” then corrected my grandma when she misgendered me. I was once the third between a gay man and a lesbian. Two lesbians once invited me back to their place when I presented as a man. I met an AMAB nb butch who looked strikingly to outsiders like a cis man and it was one of the more sapphic experiences I’ve had. I nervously wore a boydyke shirt to pride and got 3 different cis-looking femme folks tell me they loved my shirt. I once told a trans group at a protest that any pronouns were fine for me and one person said “wow, I’m impressed and intimidated by people like that. I don’t know that I could be that chill with pronouns.” I once told a GNC friend I wished I could wear a type of “opposite” gender clothing after I had already transitioned and so it would be associated with my AGAB and he said “You could just do it.” I’ve had cishet men fight cops for me before. The first time I had a doctor ask me if my name was different than what was on my forms I had to try not to cry. Last week, a phone call with a doctor’s office where I am generally cis passing asked unprompted if my name listed is what I want to be called. It touched me then too. I told a lesbian friend once I felt like my attraction to men AND women both felt gay. She said “makes sense.” And we moved on. I go by different pronouns in different circles. I’ve had gay women love my facial hair. I’ve had gay men like my tits. It’s all out there, I promise. It can be hard to find it but I promise there is community like you and community who likes you. And it’s more messy and beautiful than tumblr discourse makes it out to be.

“The only people softer than you are the wrestlers you like.”
Really? Really. Says the man who threw a fucking fit resulting in a backstage fight because he *thought* someone said some shit they didn’t say. Says the man who blames the fact that he *thought* Hangman hit him in the mouth on purpose on why the match (in his opinion) sucked. Says the man who *thought* he could be a fucking UFC fighter but got demolished and never tried again?
Yeah. It’s those other guys who are soft.
The fuck outta here with that shit

I really do want to make a point here about Jay Briscoe and his previous homophobic comments in 2013, yes of course they were bad but out of everyone who has posted dumb shit that’s wrong Jay has been someone who has went out of his way to make amends for those comments, education himself and be better.
You can see here with just a few members of the LGBTQ+ members of the wrestling world just how much Jay meant to them and how nice he was to them, I think getting the Effy/Max/Sonny stamp of approval means alot for someone who made those comments in the past.
Anyone who is still making a comment of “Jay Briscoe was homophobic so why are you celebrating his death” are people not worth fucking oxygen and can genuinely go fuck themselves with a rusty knife, don’t fucking interact with them don’t bother wasting your time with the fucking underbelly of society that just want attention when someone has died.

Can’t believe Jay Briscoe is gone. So young and so amazingly talented. I’m so sad just as a fan can’t imagine what his family and friends are going through. Going to watch those FTR matches again. RIP
