"Loop? Have you spoken to... The new alter, their name was Athen, yes?" The Researcher interrupts your train of thought when you go to take another bite of the food the Kid cooked for everyone. Just a simple meal, basic, but it was good. You were actually thinking about how to approach Athen. You were scanning their notes for any sign of what might be ahead when you were spoken to. Speaking of that- responding is important! Don't get lost in thought, Loop~!

"No, I haven't talked with Athen, not quite yet~! Trying to get some information first. Better to not rush into things unprepared~!"

The Researcher takes another bite before speaking again. "What do you think Athen wants? You've been obsessed with that book ever since last night's incident."

"It's mostly notes about the Island- They mention a lot of Wish Craft rituals. That was probably why they went to the shore: one of the listed rituals says to write the wish in the sand. But that means we can't know what the wish is as a result of the waves..." You can remember the Islanders liked things that were impermanent because of their beliefs- You're drifting off into your own thoughts again. Stop that. They need you to stay focused, to stay positive, to not risk a headache by pushing to far. Speak. "Either way, I'm sure it'll be fine~! We can handle one more alter that doesn't like behaving~!"

The Researcher looks at you, suspicion in her eye. She doesn't believe you. Oh no~! You definitely don't know how to deal with this one~! "What does Siffrin think about all this?"

"Stardust doesn't know yet. I'll tell him after I talk with Athen~!" Siffrin doesn't need to come with you for this talk. Maybe Mal Du Pays would be helpful. It understands how risky Wish Craft can get.

([I will help, if you need.])

Oh, it has been paying attention, then. It always was good at reading what others were worrying about. (Perfect. Stay nearby. Don't run off without me. Wait until downtime tonight, then we find him.)

([We should be careful. My presence might alert Siffrin.])

(Fair point. Stay at your usual place, then. Meet up with me tonight. I'll make sure Stardust isn't here when that happens.)

You keep looking through the notes again and again. The Island's language eludes you, and you don't want to drag Stardust into this.

[You look at the parts Loop is struggling with. For you, they parse as easily as Vauguardian does, if not easier. A benefit of the way you are.]

(["Wishes for Wish Craft rituals are best phrased in certain manners, listed as follows..." "If all else fails, wish for another chance" "Never let the others find this book. Keep all most important details in this language" Well, too late for that last one. They likely don't know I can read this, though.])

(That gives us the upper hand, then. Element of surprise and all.)

[Once Siffrin is controlling the body and relaxing before it is time to sleep, you both move deeper into the headspace, leaving Siffrin alone in front. They can handle it for a few moments. You approach the- new? old? alter, walking up behind them while Loop walked in front of him.]

[You and Loop continue to look at the notes. Why would Athen want to wish for something, but refuse to write the wish itself? Strange.]

[You're busy taking in the details of this alter. You had been noting their appearance ever since they came into sight. You liked to pay attention to details. It helps you keep the memories of each person straight.]

[This one had longer hair than the body, pulled back, but the same darkless shade. A light capelet over dark clothes, those being a long sleeve shirt and pants, with the capelet being fastened with three star pins. They had a bag on a belt around their waist, the fastening also showing a star. Their shoes were flat, more like boots rather than the heels the body wore, but that also had that same star symbol that seemed to be so intrinsically linked to him.]

[You noticed their expression as you moved past them: dull eyes, slightly lowered eyelids with their eyebrows pushed towards each other a bit. Their mouth was a straight line and they stood with their hands behind their back, feet together, straight back. Now that you're behind them you can see their gloves that seem to match the boots they wear both in shade and in design- once again that star symbol appears.]

[You were contented with these details. You could remember who Athen was now. Time to focus elsewhere, then.]

[You missed part of the conversation. Probably Loop talking about what Athen was doing. You already know that part. No loss.]

[They whirl around and glare at you.] (You think YOU get to talk about Dormont? I was there for all of it, Dark One. You only know of a sliver of that time. Do not assume you can speak on what that was.)

[You nod. You know what they will ask. You want to know too. Athen also nods.]

Let me be clear about what's happening with those spam asks on anon about tragedies in the world because I want to be transparent. I am quite literally in a country that is taking my rights as I speak I do not have the mental energy to deal with those nor the time, energy, or funds to help anyone in distress. and frankly I don't appreciate those asks appearing in my ask box. If those don't stop I might have to turn anon asks off which would SUCK but I have to protect my mental health first and I hope y'all can understand. I've gotten like six of them since this side blog opened and I'm tired of only getting anon asks about whatever tragedies are happening. So! So so so! Family member(s) walks up to Siffrin on a perfectly normal day, nothing out of the ordinary, Siffrin has been doing great!

...and suddenly they get hit with Mal Du Pays Siffrin just staring at them- no, GLARING at them, like the family member(s) massacred Siffrin's entire country themself/themselves.

This deviates slightly, I feel, depending on who is present.

Just Bonnie? Bonnie tries to help, but that just ends with the kid running crying to someone (Isabeau?). We know how Act 5 went, and MDP isn't exactly gonna play nice...

Just Odile? She's very smart, smart enough for this, but she jumps ahead of herself a bit. She assumes this is a looping Siffrin, rather than a Mal Du Pays incident (because she probably doesn't even know who MDP is at this point), and it goes badly. Mal Du Pays is not Siffrin, does not react the same as Siffrin, and is very willing to point out that it is not Siffrin! Of course, once it is clear that it is not Siffrin, Odile will be quickly redirecting her train of thought and will try and resolve the situation (potentially getting help from Isabeau if possible) before going and researching what could make what seems to be a second person be in one body...

(Sus Quest 2.0 has absolutely already been going on in the background. Fam may not be good at telling the two apart, and that includes Odile, but Odile is not stupid. She can tell that there's something that Siffrin isn't talking about. Memory doesn't just magically get better overnight (Loop is helping remind Siffrin of things), and he still hasn't explained several things, including why he keeps zoning out for seemingly no reason (that one is partially a side effect of zoning out in the loops and partially talking to Loop))

Just Isabeau? Isa is emotionally intelligent enough to try and soothe MDP's fears better than anyone else. Still not successful by any means, but enough to avoid most problems.

Just Mirabelle? Depends. No anxiety meds? She's freaking out over another potential Act 5 Bigfrin Incident (especially since my immediate assumption is always "Siffrin attacked themself during Bigfrin instead of party" :D) and as such can't do much. Has anxiety meds? More calm, generally can keep from having an anxiety spiral immediately. Probably needs to get someone else still though. This girl might try and slap MDP based on how we've seen her react in Act 5. Or she might not because emotions are strange, who knows. Really feels like it depends on which emotions hit first.

Bonnie + anyone else just means Bonnie probably gets sent to whoever isn't around with one exception that I will discuss at the end.

Mira and Isa? Isabeau still is doing some heavy lifting I feel, but if Mira has her anxiety meds, she'd probably be able to help and make it a bit easier for Isa. If she doesn't have her meds? Things get tricky, cause Isabeau will have to choose: Leave either Mira or MDP Siffrin to their own devices for a second to handle one thing at a time, or try to juggle both situations at once? Leave Belle alone and she might have an anxiety attack or something, but leave MDP Siffrin alone and who knows what might happen, or what danger they'll put themself in!

Mira and Odile? Oh boy that's a fun one! Mira is absolutely getting sent to fetch Isabeau while Odile figures out that this is not Siffrin. Whether she comes back kinda depends on, again, does she have anxiety meds? No? She's staying behind, so see the entry below. If yeah, then see the one that is below the one below.

Odile and Isa? Again, Isa keeps MDP calm while Odile comes to the realization that MDP is MDP and not Siffrin. Honestly? Objectively the best option if Mira doesn't have anxiety meds available.

All but Bonnie? Honestly, not too difficult to deal with. See literally everyone's strengths and how they cover each other's weaknesses. Plus, if Mira has no anxiety meds, Odile can handle MDP for a minute while Isa helps calm Mira if needed.

Everyone, including Bonnie? Oh boy, that'll hurt the kid. Ohhhh, don't get me started on how that will hurt the kid this is not gonna be fun at allllll. Y'all thought the Act 5 Familyquest variant for Bonnie hurt? Haha, you don't even know. They can't send Bonnie anywhere either because they wouldn't allow it. They'll eventually get upset and run off, meaning someone (Mira, most likely) will probably have to chase after them. There's probably nowhere for them to run to (unless they have a camp set up/a room to stay in and MDP incident didn't happen there, which is not the most likely possibility given they are actively traveling, which is also just angst fuel for meeee >:3) meaning there's probably only a place for them to run away from.

Oh, doesn't that remind you of something...? Perhaps, a specific location...? One Bonnie, perhaps, grew up in, or had a sister who lives there with them...? That they had to run away from aimlessly right before meeting the party...?

"Please, lower your voice, dearest Housemaiden. You'll wake the entire world like that~!"

"Who is this? Loop?" The Researcher is visibly concerned. You don't know why.

"The one and only~! Mind catching me up~? I'm, unfortunately, a bit lost as to why we are outside"

"I was hoping you could tell us," the Researcher sighs, "Your body got up during the night and came out here. One of you was writing something in the sand with that book open. When Mirabelle tried to call out to them, they froze, and I smelled wish craft- or, more specifically, wish craft being used for time craft, such as when Siffrin was trying to go back in time."

Go back in time? Wouldn't be Siffrin this time, they wouldn't panic like that at the Housemaiden showing up. Mal Du Pays? No, no, it would get aggressive, not loop back. That... That leaves only one possibility, and whatever possibility is left, no matter how unlikely...

"Madame, how much do you know about alters? Has your research found anything interesting? Perhaps about the creation of new alters, or ones that were already there existing unnoticed?"

"There are reports of the latter and I do have some notes on the former, but I don't think I will like where you're going with this, Loop."

So it is possible. You gesture for them to follow you as you begin walking back to Bonnie's home, reading the notes the other alter wrote. It seems you're going to have to greet this "Athen" soon. You, after all, are always the first to greet a new alter, even if you suspect they aren't exactly new.

You sprint as fast as you can down to the shore, shouting Mira's name the moment she came into view. She turned, her expression switching from anxious to relieved.

"Siffrin! Or- is it-"

"Yes" You were glad everyone remembered, at least, to check who it was, even if it was only after they already had assumed. You had asked them to do so, even since the incident with Mal Du Pays. Better to not risk a mix up, even if Loop sometimes tries to pass themself off as you. You let them, so long as they behave. They were you, once, after all, so saying they are Siffrin isn't technically fully a lie! "Are you alright, Mira?"

"Yeah, I'm fine! Just, you weren't home, and it was so early, and you usually sleep in, and-"

"Breathe" you interject "It was just a nice night for a walk, that's all. No need to worry about us~!" That much was true. A small nightmare was nothing to worry about. Everyone got those every so often.

The Housemaiden breathes in and out, like you all do. "So, what caused you to wake up?"

(Tell her) You startle slightly. You didn't expect Stardust to insist on this, or even to predict that you'd intended to deflect. (...Why?) (She deserves to know) (We don't even know what the nightmare was) (She can at least know there was one! She doesn't need every detail!) (She has no anxiety medication, Stardust. She'll fret over anything we give her to worry about) (She'll worry even MORE if someone catches you lying!) (We-)

"You alright, Siffrin?" She's staring at you with concern. She got closer at some point. Blind it all, you got too focused on arguing with Stardust! Quick, say something!

"We're doing wonderfully~! We just got a bit distracted with our own little discussion, that's all~"

She calms down a bit. Good. Keep talking. Don't let her overthink your answer. "As for why we woke up, just a tiny little nightmare~ Couldn't even remember it when we woke up!"

"Oh, well, at least you seem alright now?"

"Of course we are~! The nightmare wasn't real, after all~" Don't screw up the names. The Kid doesn't like it when you call them the Kid out loud. "We should go back, Bonnie is making some very, very delicious food for us all~!"

With that, you and the Housemaiden head back, chatting as you walk the winding streets of Bambouche, commenting on little things that you pass by.

You'd have to go back to the shore later. You should bring your book with you.

You made it all the way home without incident. The Kid greets you as you enter. "BELLE! FRIN! YOU'RE LATE FOR BREAKFAST, YOU CRABS!"

"Language, Boniface" The Researcher commented, smiling to herself. It was only you four- the other two must have eaten their food and gone about their day already. You know Nille and Isabeau both had plans for this morning. (Stardust, should you take over? She might notice sooner or later.)

You walk to your seat and sit down without responding to Loop. The switch was enough of an answer. "Thank you snack leader for this delicious meal!" Saying that when Bonbon complained about you at mealtimes was a reflex at this point, second nature. It probably shouldn't be, but this life is what the Universe led you to, and you will continue to follow.

It's only when you start to eat that you realize how hungry you were!

"Siffrin, the food isn't going anywhere," Odile, ever observant and ever quick to make snide remarks, puts a little bit of extra food on your plate, "You can take your time"

"Nope, last I heard, eggs can be very runny" Your joke earned you two groans and a small giggle. Success.

Nighttime. The stars were out. You were lucky the other two had spent most of the day resting. It was perfect for what you needed. After all, the Universe led you here, gave you this knowledge, gave you this chance to set things right.

Honestly, I think this AU interests me in part because of my life and my interactions with other human beings (no I will not elaborate figure out what I'm implying yourself), so I think that's the part that is interesting: showing how being a system impacts everyone involved! The family having to try and figure out who is fronting (this WILL get more complicated in about 2.2 seconds in this AU, like, end of next text post start of the one after :3), the alters having their own problems on top of anything that affects the system as a whole, and how that causes conflict both inside the system and out and how much chaos I can pack into one au

Like, good luck to the family, and to the Sifstem, because this is gonna be one bumpy ride, but hey, it'll be a fun one!

You lurch forwards, breathing heavily, nauseous, as your body reacts to a nightmare that is already quickly fading from your mind. You breathe in, and out. In, and out. At least this time, you didn't scream. You didn't wake everyone up. You didn't bother them this time.

You decide to get up, despite the fact that the sun has not yet come over the horizon, and go for a walk. Walking has always helped you think and process when you're too restless to sit still.

You were visiting Bambouche. You had arrived... Was it yesterday or the day before? No one was currently around to remind you. You had met Nille, and she was going to join your family in your travels. You walked the winding paths between the shops, careful not to stare too long at the island you could see what was missing on the horizon. You couldn't remember your dream, or even the slightest hint to what it was about, only that it terrified you.

You wandered and roamed until the sun had risen fully, then walked back to Nille and Bonnie's home. Bonnie was awake, standing in the kitchen, making scrambled eggs. Nille had conceded to letting Bonnie cook after all of you gave your word Bonnie could handle it.

"Frin!" Bonnie notices you enter. "Belle went to go find you!"

Since you mentioned pre-loop alters last ask I have two questions :3

Would Siffrin have any introjects of characters from his favorite plays? Since he loves theater and stuff.

And secondly is Siffrin the original host, or did be become the host at a different point? I’ve always like to head cannon that Siffrin became the host after the island was erased and the system woke up un Vaugarde. So I’d love to hear your thoughts :3

Oh yeah introjects of fictitious characters is absolutely a thing that makes sense with the Siffrin system. We know Siffrin can enjoy comedy plays because of a line in the House Library: "You gently touch the back of a Vaugardian comedy you remember liking." (I also find it interesting that Siffrin likes Poetrian plays more than Vauguardian plays, but that's unrelated) so maybe at least one alter came from comedies?

And also that's an interesting idea of "Siffrin became host only after appearing in Vauguard" and that fits very well with what I have planned for that other alter so I may just steal that detail from you......
