Letter to master wong There are very few people I’d truly mourn if they were to pass away 😒... Death, unlike everything else in this life, is inevitable. My beliefs have so many justifications, explanations and general words of comfort to offer 😪.. In the end however, none of those justifications mean anything when someone who’s fed you when you were homeless is gone. None of those explanations for why they were taken suffice to quell the ache that wrenches within your heart. No words of comfort can negate the twisting pain that is summoned within your soul 😓😤😩😪😔😖🥺😢😭😫😥😑😶 Today, I found out Mr.Wong of Friendly Kitchen on 12th street, passed away a few days ago.. Outwardly, he was a very simple man. He never turned me away when I needed an ear as a child. His restaurant sustained my family for countless years when we couldn’t afford consistent meals. He even fed me plenty of times while I was on the street. Intent is 3/5ths of most laws, right? Even though that’s the case, I know I’m somewhat intimidating as a person in damn near every respect of the word.. Yes, I AM a person of color and yes, I AM a martial artist who often carries his equipment in public. However, I’ve never so much as had a SINGLE ticket written up under my name for any sort of disorderly conduct. The leap of judgment/assumption that I mean ANYONE harm (by others) is what I’ve had to come to terms with. Given this countries history, it shouldn’t be a surprise to ANYONE that I’ve had to learn how to seem like less of a threat throughout the years.. I don’t want my future children, my students or ANY other person in this country to ever NEED to adapt to these conditions in the future. This is why I’m such a adamant advocate of social reform. We shouldn’t have to feel weary/threatened by those sworn to protect and serve us or ANY other wing of government. I hope you’re all staying safe and spreading positivity in these turbulent times. These sort of days are the kind in which positivity, compassion and empathy are needed the most.
