I haven’t posted anything for you all in a while, please have some random edits from Autumn Leaves while I continue to hide in the shadows and attempt to finish writing the damn thing ;)
Side note:  I’d really love to try and post the story on a fic site as well, for my non-sims followers, but AO3 seems to be going through some maintenance at the moment, so I won’t be able to create an account there.

A cover for my newest story, Autumn Leaves, that you can check out here!
Synopsis:  It’s been six months after Captain James Kirk’s crew finished their five year deep space mission, and though his prospects of attaining a second commission are still on the horizon, a harsh reality check comes in the form of a notification from Starfleet about his former first officer’s abrupt resignation.  Desperate for an explanation, he invites Spock to meet him in his hometown in Iowa, but finds that sometimes the answers you seek are not the answers you want to hear.

“Why did you invite me here today?” Spock raised the question cautiously.  It was never in Spock’s nature to be anything but straightforward in his suspicions.  But Jim wasn't ready to surrender just yet.
“Now, now.  Are you going to blame a fellow for inviting his friend out for a scenic walk around his favorite cornfield?  I don't think I need a motive to want to see you.”  It wasn't entirely the truth, but it sounded decent and was illogically human in nature that Spock was sure to accept the answer.  “Besides, I’ve missed you.”  That was the truth.

“Fascinating,” Spock spoke at last.  His expression remained blank, but his eyes were lit with wonder.  “The only time I’ve been on Earth in autumn was when I was attending the academy.  The city does not have trees like this.”
Neither does Vulcan.  Jim cringed inwardly and bit down on his tongue.  He’d almost said it out loud, but biting sarcasm was never the way to get Spock to open up to him.  And, though he wanted to lash out and demand an explanation for the sudden resignation, patience and understanding, along with meticulously planned questions, tended to work better to loosen his lips.

AUTUMN LEAVES

Riverside was beautiful this time of year.  He’d seen it again and again, the cycles of the seasons as certain as the sun, setting and rising without fail.  But Mother Nature made autumn her finest masterpiece.  For here, the world was her canvas, and she painted the foliage like fire, and the sky like the sea, and for a moment in time, both could coexist without destroying the other.
In the midst of all the golden hues, Jim spotted the familiar figure of his Vulcan companion, his eyes cast in scientific marvel at the leaves, like he used to when they would explore a new planet.  His mind indulged him in an image of his curious commander in civilian clothes and a beanie trying to categorize the foliage with a tricorder, and he shook his head at the audacity of his train of thought and walked towards his friend with renewed purpose.
He decided to show after all, Jim thought as he released a breath he hadn't realized he’d been holding.
“I’m glad you got to see this today,” Jim started, “It’ll only be vibrant and beautiful like this for another week before the wind blows them all onto the ground.”

AUTUMN LEAVES

<Music Inspiration (x)>
“October 15th, 2270.
Using Terran dates still feels surreal to me.  In truth, I almost called this in as a Captain’s Log.  Logging my day’s events is one of many habits I have yet to break since my days on the Enterprise.  I can do much worse for vices.
It’s been six months since the Enterprise crew returned from our deep space mission.  With no new word yet from command,  I’ve eagerly been waiting for a decision to be reached on a future, deep-space mission.  But my hope is wearing thin.  Ever since the mission’s end, command has been pushing me to take a position as an Admiral.  Chief of Starfleet Operations, they said.
Title, glory, prestige, and stability.  Sounds like a perfect life, but once you’ve been out there, in the vast unknown of space, even the gilded elite offices of Starfleet would feel like a prison.
I’d do anything to have the Enterprise back.  My ship, my crew, my friends, and the scores of stars to chart.  If I could have another week, or a month, or another year with them by my side, I would have all the perfection I’d ever wanted out of life contained in that tiny space of time.
But time waits for no one.  Especially not me.  Their lives are moving on, and so must mine.  But I’m not ready to let go.  I don’t think I ever was.
Which brings me to today.  October 15th, 2270.  I was notified this morning by  Starfleet that Mister Spock had tendered his resignation, and was preparing to depart for Vulcan by the end of the week.
I’d almost be willing to believe that time does wait.  It waits until it has an opportune moment to strike, but it doesn’t hit you with a vengeance, no!  It hits you with a rush.  And it leaves you intoxicated and giddy until you’re wasted.  And it mocks your inebriation with the sobering fact that you’ve wasted weeks, months, years of opportunities.  And now you have only days left, to try to say what should have been said all along.  What could have been said in the halls, or in the rec room. Whispered casually, over dinner, or desperately, after either of us cheated death, once again.  And now I’m departing for my hometown on a whim, because I thought I had all the time in the universe.
If all the time in the universe wasn’t enough to convince me to leave myself open and vulnerable to another being, I doubt that a few measly hours will be enough to convince him to stay.  But it will have to do.

I might be bringing you all a short Star Trek story/photoshoot that is unrelated to Hyperbola. I haven't abandoned it at all, I'm just in the mood to create something fun.

Music Playlist Shuffle
Tagged by the lovely @dangerouslyfreejellyfish
Most of my followers probably don’t know this about me, but I majored in both Chemistry AND Music when I was an undergrad.  I love singing, and I still perform, though I mostly do group choirs instead of solo work.  Music is my life so these kinds of tag/ask games involving music are my absolute favorites.
Also, fair warning, if prompted, I will serenade you with my soprano voice ;)
Another fair warning, my mix of music is highly eclectic and all over the map.  Listen at your own risk.
Harp Concerto, Op. 25: I. Allegro giusto - Alberto Ginastera
Stars - Sam Airey
The Night the Pugilist Leanred How to Dance - Sting
Falling - RHODES
Gemini Feed - Banks
Your Soul Today - Chris Cornell
Street Player - Chicago
Saturday - Chris Garneau
Before You Go (For Good) - Alex Day
Jesus, Jesus - Noah Gundersen
I tag @chickenwangsims, @sixamsims, @rethdis-love, @ambrosiay, @celebi88, @99simproblems, and anyone else who would love to do this!

I'm trying to refine a semi-realistic/comic style for them. Also drawing Vulcan ears is like drawing butterfly wings. 🦋
