No bother at all! I wondered where you’d gone. It’s nice to have you back. I’m curious though as to how you accidentally deleted your blog?

Remus and Snape weren't even that alike either in their upbringing. As far as we know, Remus had two loving parents and a very close group of friends. He was well-loved. Snape had Lily, until he hadn't. Remus was surrounded by anti-Voldemort people during his school years that were deeply influencial in his life. Snape was surrounded by pro-Voldemort people. The OP also isn't adressing that Remus was one of Snape bullies, either being passive or active in it's torment.
You’re right and you should say it. Despite being a werewolf, Remus grew up more loved than Snape ever was.

Teddy Lupin’s middle name is already Remus. To quote J.K. Rowling, “Harry chose to perpetuate the names of the two who had nobody in their families to do so.”
Not everyone is going to “grow from” or “become stronger” as a result of their traumatic experiences. As an adult, Snape is clearly still affected by what the Marauders did to him. Even so, Snape doesn’t use his past as an excuse for his behavior. Snape knows what sort of man he is. Was he kind? Definitely not. But he was brave and that’s what mattered to both him and Harry.
This is where you lose me. You say Snape never admitted to being wrong for using dark magic against the Mauraders, but should he? Truly, should Snape as an adult say that he was wrong to defend himself against his tormentors? To hurt them as they hurt him? The Mauraders never apologize to Snape. Why should he have to be the bigger man? And while we’re on the topic, the only time we see Snape use dark magic on the Mauraders is after James attacked him first. He was acting in self defense.
Lastly, Snape did become a better person. He left the Death Eaters and turned spy for the Order. He protected Harry, saved lives and ultimately died in the fight against Voldemort. This is why Harry named his son Albus Severus. Snape was brave in ways that no other character was. There are more ways to be a hero than by showing kindness to others. That is of course a strength, but not one Snape needed to play his role well.
i can’t believe that harry named his second child after snape who he said is “one of the bravest men he knew” when there’s remus lupin. remus who died in a battle for harry and for the greater good, leaving his infant son to be an orphan. remus who had a lonely, miserable childhood as he had no friends before hogwarts and had to endure pain and self-hatred every month all because of a bite. remus who was negatively labelled, feared and despised by society and had to fight prejudice every moment. remus who struggled to find a job, relationship or family as his illness forbade him to live. most importantly, remus who continued to be kind and sweet and loving, who showed confidence in and respect for his students, who had hundreds times of love, courage, altrusim and righteousness in his scarred heart than snape would ever have or ever had despite the atrocities and his own demons he faces all the time.
remus lupin and severus snape were more similar than we think. they both had less than ideal childhoods and they were shunned and hated at various points of their lives. but how they responded to these shortcomings is what makes them different, and what makes remus miles better than snape in all kinds of way.
remus did not let his demons or other people’s disgusted looks or insults define him, he did everything to make sure others see him for who he was — a kind hearted, good person who meant no harm. he worked extra hard in hogwarts, was polite and respectful to everyone and fought for what he knows is right. he does not complain about his monthly sufferings, nor does he back down from the hurtful, prejudiced words people throw at him. he never lashes out at others, especially not at his students. he never made anyone’s life miserable just because his own sucked. he was brave and courageous, a true gryffindor in every way.
on the other hand, snape continued to be cold and vile to everyone. he remained unfeeling, prejudiced, hurtful and he never did anything just because it was the right thing to do. he bullied his students and treated them unfairly and in a degrading manner, resulting in fear and insecurities amongst mere teenagers. yes, he was bullied when he was young but he never let it go, never grew from it or became stronger. he remained cowardly as he refused to admit his mistakes in also being wrong in attacking the marauders with dark magic and never learning to grow from his experiences. instead, he let them define him, making him a downright mean, hateful person who rarely has any concern for anyone else.
yeah maybe snape became a double spy and died in the battle for harry at the end, but did he have to conquer his inner demons every single moment of his life? did he ever force himself to face his fears and become a better person? NO. “tHe bRaVesT MaN i’Ve eVEr kNown” MY ASS. YALL KNOW IT’S REMUS.
