I really like that the first panel emphasises the connect aspect of volleyball.
But what really makes me happy is that the series ended on these words too. But instead of just one panel, each line is emphasised with what we learned reading the series.

To us, Haikyuu is about the story of Hinata and Kageyama (literally), as they fight to stay on the court the longest. From a small city gymnasium in middle school, to the top of the world in the Olympics. Although many characters love the game of volleyball in the series, we see it most with these two. Just like in this panel, to us the readers of Haikyuu they are the sport's representatives.

Here the 'separated by the net' is quite literally lol.

Again, it is visual representation of them bouncing the ball and keeping it from touching the floor, but the next page honestly makes me tear up..

Again, 'connect' is emphasised, but this time more beautifully, but with Hinata and Kageyama's teammates and the people who supported them, connected with them...

And it ends with their signature freak quick attack. Now Kageyama always took Hinata seriously, which is one of the things I love about him, and acknowledged his passion and dedication to volleyball when he refused to stop until the ball dropped with a set.
But they connected during that 3 on 3 with their quick, bringing their strengths together... I will never get tired of connection in Haikyuu ugh.
Also!!! Hinata can see past that 'tall, tall wall'!!! You can see the top of the net reflected in his eyes!!!
And then the thing that drives everyone crazy

Gosh I love circular endings. Inspiring people just like he himself was so inspired.
And before this panel came this:

It is the only piece of dialogue since the volleyball exposition piece, and it's the voice of the announcers reminding people once again that Hinata and Kageyama went to school together.
The bicycle kid would have heard this, and how amazing would it feel for him to hear that the two monsters on stage went to school in the same town that he lives in? That those people walked the same roads that he did? (Takinoue Electronics was on the Karasuno Shopping District iirc.)
This was supposed to be about the first chapter of haikyuu but it somehow ended with the last.
Endings and Beginnings indeed.

I've got this one idea that refuses to leave my mind (which I unfortunately will probably never write about). So I'll just leave it here and make it public domain - anyone can have it.
Soulmate Dream AU - in which both soulmates (repeat and emphasize on both) dream of a moment they will share in the future. Faces are blurred, and there is no way to be sure that someone is your soulmate - until that moment happens and the vision snaps back in full clarity, overlapping with the real scene in front of your eyes.
The catch? Hinata and Kageyama have their handshake right before the Jackal vs. Adler match as their soulmate moment. A professional volleyball court. A tall net separating the two sides. And beneath the net is a hand extending forward, grasped in a firm, determined grip.
Imagine an 11-year-old Hinata, who gets his dream the night he discovers the Little Giant and wants to play volleyball. He realizes that the path he wants to take is the very same one that will one day lead him to his soulmate. And so he throws himself into training throughout middle school, even though the conditions around him are lacking in every way. He meets Kageyama on the court of a middle school tournament, and beneath all the nerves and excitement, something screams at him to zero in on the setter in front of him.
Imagine a 14-year-old Kageyama, who gets his dream the night before their first meeting in middle school. He wakes up that day with the images of the dream fresh in his mind and his grandfather's words from when he was a child in his ears: someone even better will come and find you. He faces off against Hinata, and his subconscious whispers you may be my someone better while he screams "What have you been doing for the last three years?"
They meet again in Karasuno and begin to work together. The sense of something precious, something more is apparent in every freak quick, every impossible play in which they are so synchronized that it almost feels as if they were the extension of each other's will. Sendai City Gymnasium (which, unbeknownst to them, will become the Kamei Arena Sendai in which their vision takes place) gives them deja vu every time they set foot in it. Both of them have doubts, yet neither says anything for fear of being wrong, and also because they know that time would definitely tell.
They graduate and part ways with so many things left unsaid. They reunite on Hinata's debut match against Kageyama's team. And the dream snaps right in front of their eyes.
#if they had their way they would definitely kiss right then and there#but they have a damn sport to play rn#this is what the dream has promised them all along after all#a match against their partner in every sense of the word#the kiss still happens on the court of their dream tho#just after instead of before the match#anyways they get married on 9/10/2021#with rings engraved with the exact coordinates of kamei arena sendai - the court of destiny#haikyuu#haikyuu!!#kagehina#hinata shoyo#kageyama tobio

Hell yeah. I LOVE Outsider POV fics. I have also gone through the YOI's Outsider POV phase, and social media fics are still some of my favorite fics. And now I'm in a deep dive into Haikyuu.
99% of what I read is angst but you know what my secret favorite fanfiction category is? Outsider POV. I love a good fic where we鈥檙e in the perspective of characters who have no idea what the fuck is going on and are stuck watching our MCs be absolutely ridiculous. I love every version of this trope. It could be mostly text based. It could be mostly social media based. As long as it checks the boxes? I鈥檓 all in. You don鈥檛 understand. I think the first one of these I read was with Sam and Dean Winchester as kids in school from the perspective of a guidance counselor. I have been ruined. I have read every fic I could find with the premise of SkyGem鈥檚 Retirement AU (Yuri On Ice). I read White Collar DC crossover fanfiction despite not knowing or caring about White Collar because I treat it like outsider POV fanfictions with a fun identity reveal element. My favorite My Hero Academia fanfiction of all time is entirely made up of social media bit and bobs (tumblr posts, twitter posts, text message chains, etc). I am currently reading a Carmen Sandiego fic like this and it is such a crack fic. It is so unserious. I can鈥檛 put it down. I am so hooked.

They still have to diss Oikawa, huh?
My first and (probably) only headcanon for haikyuu is that no one can tell if Kageyama and Hinata are dating or not.
This is something which has most likely been said before but I still want to add onto it.
Are they Flirting or fighting? No one knows. There have definitely been fists involved and one time Ennoshita may have hallucinated when he heard Kageyama whisper that he was going to have his way with Hinata once they were alone. Maybe it just meant that they were going to fight more, that Kageyama was furious with Hinata and wanted to give him a piece of his mind, so the team were now all on watch duty until the end of the day, always making sure Hinata and Kageyama were never alone.
At the end of the day, before anyone could say anything, the two bolted out of the door and ran off without more than a quick "bye".
(They ignored the frustrated glares both Kageyama and Hinata gave them during the day. They definitely ignored the suspiciously placed bruises on each of their necks the next day. They must have fought a bit too much.)
A bet has been going round the Volleyball teams about whether or not they are together. A bet which Yachi and Kiyoko started amongst the Karasuno players and then the managers of other teams. Except, the players of their teams caught onto it and it has been going strong, even after Hinata went to Brazil. Especially after the Adlers vs Jackals match where most people decided against it.
(It is suspected that Yachi actually knows whether or not they are dating, but no one has gotten her to crack just yet. From the way she smirks whenever someone asks, no one will anytime soon.)
Oikawa is firmly against it, not because he doesn't believe they could ever be together, but because they are both idiots who don't know anything more than volleyball (and each other). Some agree with him.
Kenma is one of the ones who have put his money (and a lot of it) on them being together. There is too much chemistry between the two idiots that even they couldn't ignore.
There's another bet amongst the ones who bet for them being together. When they got together. Kenma says since the end of first year. He seems to know something the orhers don't know. Bokuto likes to think that they confessed just before Hinata went to Brazil and became long distance star crossed lovers. (Akaashi told him to stop being stupid (and then bet alongside Kenma)).
Surprisingly Tsukki is the one to bet on them being together since after the first training camp.
Yachi stayed out of this one. (She knew. She definitely knew.)
Yet even when Hinata and Kageyama become aware of the bets (actually they have been aware of them for years but they won't mention that just yet) they just shrug their shoulders and tells whoever is asking, "We're partners. Even when we're not on the same team."
Oikawa decided to shift his money to the other side, betting that they got together after the Adlers vs Jackals match.
But it was still unclear.
Even when Kageyama and Hinata moved in together, when people stayed over they thought it was just courtesy that one of them would give up their room and bunk with the other. Even when they touched or fought playfully, the others couldn't tell if that was actual affection or just Kageyama and Hinata being Kageyama and Hinata.
It took winning an olympic gold medal together for the truth to finally come out. After the Japan team won, everyone was on a high. In the heat of the moment, Hinata and Kageyama drew each other in for a bone crushing hug, whispering sweet nothings to each other as tears of joy spilt out of both of their eyes.
Their foreheads touched. Suddenly, it was like the entire court was quiet. It wasn't long before lips met and cheers erupted around them.
In an interview later, the both of them would be asked about their relationship.
"We've always been partners. We just thought it was time the rest of the world knew."
The only problem now was, when asked about when or how they got together, both Kageyama and Hinata would be vague. Perhaps they would mention a detail about how they confessed to each other. Yet, no one could tell when exactly it happened.
What they did let people know was that Oikawa was most definitely wrong about his guess and he could go suck it for thinking they were idiots who would take so long to realise their feelings for each other.
#haikyuu#haikyuu headcanons#kagehina#this is actually really wholesome#and hilarious#not-so-secret relationship is one of my fav tropes for a reason

I think my favorite part of the Daisuga ship is that they are just already a very chill ship. Somehow feel like the most real highschool couple. And what I mean is that Daichi and Suga have chemistry, but it鈥檚 not explosive. They don鈥檛 have these huge passionate shouting matches that prove how much they care about eachother, or these sweet melancholic flashbacks that show how committed to eachother they are. They just have chemistry. Like they have lines that sound like confessions. But not new ones. Daichi and Suga talk to each other like they鈥檝e been in a relationship for years. Like it鈥檚 second nature to say those things to eachother. I think that鈥檚 also why they feel so much like mom and dad. Cause yeah, they bicker, but it鈥檚 always fond, just like every other part of them. They鈥檙e just so smitten with eachother and so comfortable not only with eachother but with themselves that nothing about their relationship has to be explosive or poetic or anything to be deeply meaningful to the people that matter most, themselves.

Omg, this. YOI is out there proving that true love exists, y'all.
It's been 3 days since I've finished my latest rewatch of Yuri!!! On Ice and I'm still reeling with all the small, gentle touches during Yuuri and Viktor exchange during the gala and how smoothly they are integrated into the choreography as a testimony of their love.

These touches don't happen in the spur of the moment, they are well-practised details of the routine. Every little movement causes a change in momentum and movement and thus affects one's balance. Add a slippery surface and interactions with a partner to the equation and a fleeting touch turns into a feature that demands to be planned and excuted timely.
The touches being part of the routine takes away nothing from their significance - on the contrary. They show the love and care Yuuri and Viktor have poured into this routine and thus symbolise the love and care they poured into their relationship. They are a part of the story Yuuri and Viktor tell through this programme - the story of their love.
Note how at first, Yuuri skates alone. He's fighting alone, expressed through the jumps, copying Viktor and trying to catch up with him. There's a reason why the part until Viktor arrives is exactly the same as Viktor's FS. Then, Viktor takes over and pulls Yuuri along. He woos Yuuri and supports him [the lift]. Eventually, Yuuri reciprocates his feelings [the caress of Viktor's cheek and the soft, loving smile right afterwards].
From there, they skate side-by-side as partners and skaters of equal skill, which gives us a glimpse into their future.
Eros portrays the physical and sensual aspects of Yuuri's feelings, Yuri On Ice showcases his love in a wider and more general sense and narrates the story of him and Viktor from his own viewpoint. In the gala version of Stammi Vicino, he and Viktor tell their story together in the grand conclusion of Yuuri's season theme.
