They should invent a method of asking for reassurance that nobody secretly hates you that doesn't make people secretly hate you.

I've analyzed their first meeting so many times over with my bestie ahahah.
Lucifer insults the decor ('What in the unholy Hells is that?'). Alastor (intentionally or not) offers him the chance to backpedal and save face ('...adds a bit of color, don't you think?'), something you would also hope that Luci would want to do for his daughter's sake.
Lucifer’s response is to be condescending. Alastor is a little bit of a shit, popping up behind Lucifer and the whole height thing, but what Luci says next is both dismissive and classist. Like, he is so obviously not saying 'Are you the bellhop?' because he thinks that's an important, valuable job worthy of respect. And Alastor still laughs that off!
He explains he's the host of the hotel. He says Lucifer might have heard of him from his radio show. And it's another opportunity for Lucifer to stop being hostile, without losing anything or looking weak. He could say 'oh you're that Alastor!' if he knew the guy. Or 'oh, a radio show, huh, interesting', or any normal response to a person talking about their passion/hobby/career.
Lucifer chooses, instead to laugh about how Alastor must be a 'has-been' (bold words for someone who seems to have been absent from the public light for decades lol). And then Alastor is like 'well actually I named it', Lucifer insults him again by saying the name isn't clever, and Alastor snaps at him.
After that Alastor is passive aggressive, southern US 'polite'. Asshole behavior, maybe.
Lucifer retaliates by dragging him into song a few moments later, insulting him once more, tossing him in a frying pan(!), manhandling him in general, and also 'joking' about cutting his head off and serving it to his daughter on a plate. Alastor’s rebuttal doesn't even directly mention Lucifer at first - is he being a bitch? Yeah, kind of (even if it's definitely deserved at this point). But the level of outward hostility is so so SO much less.
It's true that a lot of what Alastor says to Lucifer during their first meeting is subtle jabs and/or bragging. But they're also very obviously marked off-road ramps from the highway of 'being a complete asshole in front of your semi-estranged daughter'.
Do I think Alastor did that out of the kindness of his own heart? Lol, of course not. But it is another good example of Lucifer's arrogance damaging the thing he apparently considers most important to him - his relationship with his daughter. All so he can 'win' a petty and mostly-imaginary catfight with a random sinner Charlie makes it clear she cares about lol.
So I was just looking at this screenshot and like

Why are you making that face

Like why
Alastor barely did anything to you yet
"Oh, but Hell's Greatest Dad"
Lucifer instigated all of that! Lucifer very literally dragged Alastor into that song

Literally!!
And before this song, Alastor barely did anything either! It was Lucifer who came in throwing blatant insults while Alastor was being the kind, polite gentleman that he isn't!
Alastor: "I don't want to touch you but I'll still shake your hand :) don't you like my decor? You're shorter than I thought :)"
Lucifer: "What are you, a bellhop? You're a has been who sucks at naming things"
Like, Lucifer was so hostile and for no reason whereas Alastor was being such a graceful southern gentleman. "Oh bless your heart, your majesty," etc. etc. What Alastor did, prior to the song, was basically the equivalent of purposefully bumping into Lucifer and going "Oh, oops :) my bad" whereas Lucifer retaliated by swinging. Didn't even wait to make sure it wasn't actually an accidental bump, he just went for the attack immediately. Like, I know it's hard for him, but Lucifer really needed to try and be the bigger man here instead of picking a fight with his daughter's friend right off the bat. Heavy emphasis on the picking a fight with his daughter's friend
I do want to clarify and say that I don't think my husband is a perfect angel who can do no wrong. I am confident that in due time, Alastor can properly earn that look of disgust towards him, but as of right now, it is entirely unjustified. I honestly would not be surprised that if these two get into a fight or something in season 2, that Lucifer would be the instigator. Maybe it happens early on in the season, Alastor would probably be still licking his wound and just trying to deal with everything that happened during and after the fight while trying to hide it from everyone, and here comes Lucifer throwing insults and jabs his way until Alastor can't take it. We've seen that Lucifer can apparently get under Alastor's skin pretty easily after all. And I doubt Lucifer would stop, unless Charlie tells him to of course. Otherwise Lucifer would probably just keep twisting the knife. But maybe Charlie will get mad enough at Lucifer that he begrudgingly tries to make amends with Alastor. It wouldn't be genuine, but he might try to make amends, or maybe even a deal to play nice in front of Charlie at least
I think I got side tracked.. I forgot what I was going to say...
Anyway, Alastor was entirely justified for this

Lucifer was being a dick for no reason
#I love Lucifer#but#he is an asshole#hazbin hotel#I DO think that a lot of Lucifer's behavior#is in part due to being ND/depressed#but like#he doubles down#and#hold on im going to make a post about this#i cant stop thinking about it#lucifer morningstar

the real reason why velvette had to go to the overlord's meeting is that the other two are even more insufferable;
vox gets wayyy too into his presentation (see: climbing onto chairs and sparking), at once mansplaining and assuming advanced knowledge, resulting in getting extremely wound up when the other overlords aren't as impressed as he wants them to be.
valentino comes with a packed lunch and a body cam, with explicit instructions to shut the fuck up. he sits with the automatic powerpoint that vox prepared playing until he gets bored and starts saying whatever to tick the other overlords off. he singlehandedly wins the idgaf war.
funnily enough, the body cam footage is the most useful, but the other vees are deeply aware that someone will actually murder val one day.
