Another one from 21. Lots of times I’ll just start painting and eventually pareidolia kicks in. It’s done a lot of heavy lifting for my most abstract work, i rarely have an end in mind when I start.

Sometimes when I can’t sleep I, go figure, start painting. Finger-painting like yeah it’s going to suck, just free to fuck around

This was a warm-up I did one day to practice some digital techniques I wanted to transfer to a real canvas. So, when I work in the abstract, depth and weight are very important. Usually I achieve depth like shown here, where I’ll just copy/paste one line on top of itself, then transform it by placing it right above or below the original. To create depth then, I change the opacity to this copied line to make it a "shadow." The gradient boxes help to break up what can otherwise be just a jumbled mess and give you somewhere to focus. The color change also helps with line weight, the cool/warm illusion of color doing some heavy lifting. This piece isn’t anything stellar, but it was a decent warm up for what I was looking to achieve.
