Though my life has changed dramatically since I first came up with the Unbeatables idea, I’m still planning on finishing it at some point. I’ll be sure to make a big deal out of it when I do.

2020 Project Updates

Hey, doodlebugs! My hardest college semester is over and my free time has been greatly extended, so I figured now would be a good time for some updates on the projects I have planned for the new decade.

=== Unbeatables ===

Due to the high quantities of studying and homework I had to do over the last few months, work on the Unbeatables comic has been minimal, but still ongoing. While I don’t have anything related to Issue #1 ready for display just yet, here is a concept piece for the first outside member of the group, Ironheart!

=== Project FORWARD ===

The Project FORWARD trading cards are on very temporary hiatus as I prepare the designs and backstories for lots of new characters that live across the world of Gaia. Here’s a very early sketch of what will likely be the first card for that second set, the menacing outlaw named Goldseeker.

=== Project BLAZAR ===

Earlier in October I started work on a new project that has heavy distant-future science fiction elements called Project BLAZAR. The plot is loosely based on the short story Who Can Replace a Man? by Brian Aldiss, as well as several contemporary science fiction films such as 2001: A Space Odyssey and Interstellar. In it, a humanoid robot gathers a small group of automatons to search for the last living human being in a galaxy that has long rendered them extinct; throughout their journey, the robot and his companions learn about the many positive and negative qualities of human behaviors while second-guessing their own mortality and whether or not reinvigorating the human species is even a good idea to begin with. I don’t have a lot of visual designs ready yet, but I’m excited to see where this project pans out in terms of presentation and scale - it might even take the form of a novel, who knows?

Do you think you might be able to work a reference to the upcoming finale to Gwenpool Strikes Back to your Unbeatables comic? How it’s set to end and how yours looks to begin seem to have a point they could easily connect between (and it would open the door for a future writer to make it canon, I mean, they made @gwenpool_ebooks canon in this miniseries, you know?

Due to the fact that the Unbeatables is a separate but similar canon to the 616 universe, I made sure to have the characters introduced in the most broadly applicable way possible - that is, literally any of their ongoing stories could connect to the first issue. Hopefully it works out in Gwen’s favor!

And with that, we’ve finally introduced all of the Oceana-based characters of Project Forward’s story! Now it’s time to venture out to the many, many other continents that decorate the world of Gaia and their denizens.

Just wanted to write a small apology for not doing what I promised regarding Jermtober. Even though I had plans for several prompts throughout the entire month, real life obligations (college and family troubles, mostly) prevented me from getting more than a few actually completed. Even though hang-ups like this are par for the course regarding my output here/on Twitter, I still feel terrible for letting you wonderfully supportive folks down like that. Inktober prompts are never true obligations for artists, but I had hoped that starting one myself would break this chain of disappointment. Looks like I’ll have to keep trying.

The creators of Gwenpool will be doing an AMA on the subreddit in a couple of weeks, in case that research will be of help you toy with your Unbeatables story. Is it set (as much as possible) in canon?

Forgive me if I’m interpreting this wrong, but I think what you’re asking is ‘Are the Unbeatables in Earth 616?’ While I’m keeping the more spoilery details for when the comic releases, the answer is actually ‘no’! The Unbeatables is set in a seperate universe that has some veerrryy minor details changed about the characters in order to make the plot function a little bit better. Their personalities are still the same, though.
