i so love magically powerfully hjp hcs where he can do insane shit and wandless magic and all that but i also think itâs so significant that in canon, the only reason harry is powerful enough to defeat voldemort is because of voldemortâs own arrogance and ignorance. the only reason his wand warded off voldemort during the battle of the seven potters was because voldemort accidently transferred power to it during their duel in gof. the only reason harry can see into voldemortâs mind is because he overlooked the power of lilyâs sacrifice (not to mention he was careless enough to use the killing curse on a baby based on incomplete, secondhand information in the first place). harry is able trace the horcruxes so easily because voldemort underestimates the power of house elves and believes that heâs the only one clever enough to have discovered the room of requirement. voldemort doesnât realize the elder wandâs power transferred to draco because he believes killing is the only way to possess the wand
harry doesnât defeat voldemort because heâs some uber powerful magical god, he defeats voldemort because voldemort doesnât pay attention to things he doesnât deem important. harry is extraordinary because he possesses strengths that voldemort views as weaknesses: love, empathy, trust and friendship. harry being just a regular kid who was thrust into the Chosen One role out of necessity is an extremely important part of his character

iâm just thinking about how when harry was being accused of opening the chamber of secrets in CoS one of the other students said something along the lines of âharry? but heâs always been so niceâ and how incredible it is that harry james potter has always been so nice. that this boy who has enough villain backstory fuel to have become evil ten times over still chose love. still chose goodness. something something âin spite of all the suffering you have endured you remain pure of heartâ
if i start posting about hp on this account no i didnât
#hjp#people always talk about how harry had every right to become a villain and he so did#but the whole point of his character is that he CHOSE not to

a subtle aspect of a little life that absolutely devastates me is how quickly time passes. itâs a long book, and they spend a long time with each age the characters reach, and yet, all too often they mention that jude is now 35, now 38, now 45, now 50. that harold is now 60, now 70, now 80. youâre reminded how large a timespan the book encompasses, how long (but in reality, how short) the lives of these characters are. you see them young, and then you see them age, and before you know it, theyâre gone

I'm reading about how Israel, in the immediate aftermath of the 1948 Nakba, deliberately replaced olive trees and other indigenous flora with European plants. This ecological disaster, which is now proudly hailed under the banner of 'making the desert bloom,' was done to 'de-Arabize' the landscape, and to cover up - often with fast-growing European pine trees -the ruins of Palestinian villages that were destroyed by Zionists forces.
And I just need everyone to read this passage from PappĂŠ, because the symbolism of what happened to those European pine trees in the desert speaks for itself:
The Ethnic Cleansing of Palestine, by Ilan PappĂŠ (2006, p. 227-228.)
