Back in the fall, we teamed up with local visual artist Nekisha in Washington DC to paint a mural in the Park View neighborhood. She created a beautiful documentary telling the story of her inspiration for the artwork as well as the importance of public art in an urban environment. Enjoy.

The folks over at the James Hotel put together this sleek production video timelapse of our work turning Paul Wackers' artwork into a giant mural in SoHo.

So as far as Wall Crush Wednesdays go, this is ours today.

We're really proud to announce that our Brooklyn artist friend, Jonathan Bartlett, was awarded a gold medal in Advertising Illustration by the prestigious Society of Illustrators for his work on Ralph Lauren's Denim + Supply. Last Spring, we partnered with the brand and artist to transform the façade of their Greenwich Village store into a show-stopping work of handpainted art. When Jonathan accepted the award, he brought the lead painter from the project, Jason, on stage with him. #spreadloveitstheBrooklynway

Last Thursday after the sun went down, the James Hotel hosted a reveal party, illuminating Paul Wackers' piece that we painted over on 6th Avenue.

A good time was had by all.

The James New York collaborated with acclaimed curator and Co-Founder of Grey Area, Kyle DeWoody to commission Brooklyn-based artist Paul Wackers to create an original mural for the hotel’s 6th Avenue façade.

Artist Statement: “I wanted to work with the shape of the wall to create a narrative within the piece itself—the same way I would over many pieces within a solo show of my paintings. I was able to create a story with this piece by using compositional elements and recurring motifs: a cabinet with familiar but intangible objects, plants, pots and vaguely historical imagery. It incorporates many of the objects and shapes which I see as characters that can interact in different ways through use of color, line and juxtaposition. This installation depicts the version of a passage of time. The first object has a sense of potential energy and growth. As you make your way through the mural, you see a human manipulation of this energy in conflict and in conjunction with the natural, and end with the hopeful balance of the two.”
