gift giving with the hq!! boys

a/n: y’all we’ve reached the last first part of the love language series (giving)!!! I’m so excited to be able to start on part two of acts of service, physical touch, and quality time after this. the boys we have today are what I loving refer to as the gentle giants featuring short king daichi because they scream chivalry which makes me scream haha.

ushijima —

it had started during the winter of his third year when ushijima realized just how much the cold affected you. his own schedule and conditioning was focused around him gaining strength and maintaining his health but yours wasn’t. upon realizing this, he had taken it upon himself to make sure you were well taken care of. obviously you could take care of yourself but what kind of boyfriend would he be if he didn’t make you you’re favorite tea when you were congested? or pack you a bento the mornings you had important assignments since he knew there was a chance you’d forget, and carry your preferred lotion and chapstick in his bag since he knew the cold dried out your hands and lips? a shitty one that was what. and if he occasionally kept his favorite hoodie that he knew you loved in his bag along with treats he didn’t eat no one would be able to prove it.

daichi —

with daichi you occupy a good portion of his mind, which means he can’t help but grab your favorite snacks when he swings by the convenience store on his way to picking up his younger siblings. it always puts a smile on your face anyway so why not? if he just happens to do it more often then he previously did, that’s no ones business but his own. if it happens to coincide when you have a bad day too? no one could prove it. on top of that though, when the summer comes to an end, he begins packing an extra jacket in his bag for the even slightest chance your cold, happily giving it you even knowing there is slim to no chance of him getting it back.

aone —

with aone being at the height of his high school volleyball career, it had started when he just wanted to let you know he was thinking of you. a small keychain with your favorite animal on your desk when you’d both had a busy week and couldn’t meet up. a small drawing of a turtle giving you a thumbs up on a post it note the morning you had a speech due. your favorite hoodie of his in your locker the day after you walked home together and had needed to use his. he loved being able to do small things that would make you smile and know he loved you when he wasn’t able to say it himself. the way you always texted him a selfie with the item didn’t help to deter further attempts though it did cause him to quickly lose storage in his phone.

asahi —

hand made gifts all the time. he enjoys making things for you to enjoy that he made himself so it’s like you have a token of his love with you at all times and also because it makes it obvious who made it. he always tries super hard on his gifts whether it’s something material or not. making you a lunch with his is something that he enjoys so much it has become habit and he cherishes making you scarfs, hats, and other articles of clothing as the awed smile on your face when you ask, “did you make this?” with wonder in your voice gets to him everytime. you don’t need to know that he started it back when you were both keeping your relationship a secret and he wanted to see you in his clothes, it ended up working out in the end.

a/n: hello! welcome back to the love language series! if you’re like what series? here is the series masterlist! there’s been quite the turn out on these which is crazy to me, but I hope you keep enjoying them including this one! next is gift giving then onto part two of acts of service!

oikawa —

genuinely just doesn’t want you to ever think bad about yourself so he’s a ray of positive monologue at you constantly. always makes sure he seems very sincere about it unlike when he’s flirting, will be specific about what he’s complimenting: the way you always make him feel loved, the color of your eyes, the little quirks he finds utterly endearing when you’re focused, literally has no filter on his thoughts for you and word vomits until you feel like your face is on fire.

yamaguchi —

your biggest supporter, literally #1 hype beast right here. always texting you encouraging things, double when you have something important coming up, triple if you’re anxious about it. you literally can not feel misunderstood in a relationship with this man, he will take all the time in the world to talk about your feelings, and his, communicate about any problems, and reassure you of any insecurities being just that. loves every last inch of you and wants you to know that at all times.

hinata —

another hype beast. literally thinks the world of you. did good on a test? amazing. got dressed up? beautiful. stayed in your comfy clothes? GORGEOUS. tried something new? awesome. failed at something? who cares? you tried! he’s so proud of you even for that and if you want to try again, he’ll support you the entire way. he has no doubt in his mind that you’re amazing and capable of wonderful things. and if you don’t believe that? we’ll he’ll believe enough for the both of you.

yahaba —

he knows he can come off as harsh and blunt at times when he’s speaking his mind so he always takes the time to reassure you that it’s not because of you. emphasizes how much he cares about you, how you make him feel like he could take on the world with you by him side, and that he couldn’t do half the things he does now without you. is a giant sap when he’s going about all of this, but you know he’s sincere and the thought he puts into making sure you’re reassured has your stomach in knots.

tanaka —

this man LOVES to compliment you and half the time doesn’t even give a shit about who he’s talking to about it. once talked asahi’s ears off about how pretty you looked when you smiled at him that morning and a sadhu had to excuse himself once he saw the hearts in his eyes. that doesn’t mean he doesn’t do it to your face. he does, just typically after being gobsmacked for a solid second. if you greet him in the morning, it’s literally like he buffers before blurting out a, “good morning, beautiful!” every time without fail. always goes the extra mile and compliments other things too, your new scarf, the way you did your hair differently, how your hand fits so well in his, the way you give the best hugs, etc.

up next is words of affirmation!

akaashi —

cafe dates, going to a new bookstore together, studying for an upcoming exam at the library. any miscellaneous task he could complete by himself is improved when he has you by his side. if you’re a more extroverted person, he’s happy to go with you to the park, or a game, but loves the tiny moments in between when you’re having dinner together or walking hand in hand after school.

kunimi —

loves to walk with you whether it’s because there is somewhere to be or just to enjoy each others company. to school, from school, after practice, before practice, early morning or late at night, he enjoys your presence. nap dates are a must. he enjoys getting snacks with you after school when he doesn’t have practice and going back to his place together after games even though he’s exhausted. loves getting a meal with you if he can during the weekends, but if not it’s cool! he’s literally just down to do whatever with you.

lev —

your own personal leech. he just always wants to be around you. will understand if you need your space, but if you don’t then expect him there. loves to train with you, and do your homework together even if it’s you tutoring him. he once jokingly only replied to you for a day in Russian after you scolded him for cursing and it became a thing. he started teaching you it as a joke but now loves the way he can speak with you in either language. likes to go to games together whether it be one he’s playing in or another teams. invites you over for family dinners, especially once you’re more fluent and is starry eyed the whole night watching you converse with his loved ones.

semi —

generally just LOVES being around you. likes to sit beside you at lunch even if it cuts down his lunch time to go find your class. always uses studying or homework as an excuse to spend extra time with you. calls even when your both busy or having a rough day and won’t say anything but just be there in silent support. will always FaceTime when he isnt with you and before a game. studying with you is one of his favorite pastimes, and he’s typically more productive during it as he always ends up thinking of what you guys could do together afterwards making him work quickly. like I said, just generally loves hanging out with you, no matter what, when, where, why, or how. he’s down.

hanamaki —

your built in best friend, whether it be teasing oikawa at lunch together, gaming on the weekends, or taking naps together after practice he is all for it. will take any and every excuse to hang out with you. he has to run an errand? suddenly a two person job. you came over to study? well that was exhausting so now you both just have to take a nap and YIKES that took a long time so I guess you need to stay for dinner too. will then walk you back home after. he’s both super low key about it and not, literally loves having you around. makes long days spent together seem like an accident due to bad planning, but it’s actually the opposite which you figure out quickly after the sixth time it’s happened.

a/n: y’all really blew me away with the response to the acts of service post and so here is the next part! it took a second to come out because I’ve been struggling with a head injury but it’s up now! I hope y’all enjoy!

constantly keeps a hand on your waist if you walking together or holds you hand if he’s carrying anything. big fan of low key PDA: holding hands, quick kisses on your cheek, keeping a hand on your waist/lower back. he loves the little touches. when alone he likes to hold you close, have your head on his chest, pressing kisses to your hair. typically only touchy if you’re walking someplace together or at home, but if you initiate he will keep his hand in yours the whole time.

matsukawa —

holds you close anytime he can. likes when you sit on his lap. will take ANY excuse to have you in his lap or to carry you. stub your toe? up you go. this man is hands and shameless. he takes pride in the fact that he can tend to your needs, and likes showing that off by holding you. isn’t super big about it in public spaces like school or restaurants, but his home screen is a picture of his lifting you up in victory after an early volleyball tournament third year.

kuroo —

likes to hold your hand when you go out to eat together. presses small kisses to your hair, your cheek, your ear whenever his face is close to yours whether it’s standing up from tying his shoe, fixing a strand of your hair, or just sitting together. loves to play with your hair and have you lay on his chest, his body, rest your head upon his shoulder. he revels in the close contact and the fact that you trust him with yourself.

tsukishima —

is very shy which his touch, tries to be as discrete as possible but he is just a tiny wee bit clingy. likes to link pinkies when you walk. share his headphones with you and fall asleep with your heads resting together. loves when you relax into him when your tucked up under his arms. is big on giving you kisses when alone, on your forehead, your lips, your hands if your walking somewhere and there’s no one around. he’s not ashamed of you it’s just that akiteru saw him holding your hand and press a kiss to your knuckles and he yet to live it down.

tendo —

this man is a smitten kitten. a complete whirlwind of a boyfriend. likes to come up out of nowhere and smack one on you when you least expect it. enjoys resting his chin on your shoulder when your working on something and watching as you do it. always keeps a hand on your lower back if getting by you but especially if you’re in a crowded area. have to walk through a crowd? hand is secured. having to stand together on the train because it’s full? hand on your back. really just likes to keep you close and safe, and never make it possible for you to doubt his love.

it was a rare occasion when you and your boyfriend both had the same day off. typically if you were off work, he had practice, or if he was off work, your boss found it within himself to conveniently schedule a board meeting. you guys both being off today was a treat after both having hard weeks and was the only reason why he was able to convince you to run with him. he would of had to anyway in order to even be able to have the day off from his coach, and you knew it’d be harder to enjoy your day off in bed if he wasn’t beside you for part of it. which was why you were running four miles at seven in the morning when you could have been sleeping.

“come on slow poke!” he calls out teasingly as he darts ahead and you can help the wave of fondness that crashes over you at the sight, snorting at his childish antics.

“call me a slowpoke again and you can run by yourself!” you quip, but the smile you’re failing to beat down on your face takes out any of the bite as he laughs under his breath. you speed up to match his pace and can’t help but roll your eyes at the shit eating grin on his face. “shut up.” you mumble looking away from him, though it doesn’t stop you from seeing the smug look on his face that you have memorized after 4 years together.

“I didn’t say anything!” he whines, even though the words were on the tips of his tongue. the sweet dew of the grass filling the air, and the pleasant breeze on his face couldn’t dull his mood, especially with his best girl beside him. he knew this wasn’t your ideal morning, waking up at sunrise to go on a run, but as he turned the corner to start heading to your favorite cafe so you could enjoy a nice breakfast together, he couldn’t think of a better way to spend it without you by his side.

and the crowd goes wild — the roar of the crowd surrounded you as you rushed down from the stands, the scoreboard brightly displaying the win your boyfriends team had secured. you couldn’t help but smile as you looked at him under the lights, standing tall, looking for all world as if the court was his home.

his eyes met yours. there’s a smile bright on his face but it grows at the sight of you as he rushes over, his arms wrap around you as he picked you up, pulling you as close as could. “baby, we did it!” he cheered as he pressed a sweaty kiss to the side of your face. you can feel his smile more than you can see it, the smell of him post match attacks your nose but nothing can take away from this moment.

always buys your favorite drink for you. always offers to work out with you. if he’s at the store, he’ll typically end up buying you a little something whether it’s food or a trinket. tries his hardest to take notes during class for you when your sick.

iwaizumi:

massages when you’re sore. ties your shoes for you if there untied. carries your bag for you and always tries to get to the door first to open it. keeps an extra water bottle in his bag for you and will give you shit, but will split his lunch with you if he sees you don’t have one without asking. if you are forgetful, he keeps an extra in his bag of the item just in case.

bokuto:

walks with you everywhere. gives you his jacket whenever you need it. always brings you a treat to eat. cleans your glasses off whenever he sees a smear (if you wear them). texts you a picture everytime he sees something cute. likes to pull out your chair for you. gives piggyback rides when you’re tired (also just generally likes carrying you lmao)

sugawara:

walks you to school when he doesn’t have morning practice. answers any homework questions you have. if your hair is down, he is always willing to do it for you or if it’s in your face, he’ll brush it behind your ear. will give you any food he made that he has extra of. always makes sure to see you once a day even when super busy whether it’s at lunch or on ft.

sakusa:

always gives you hand sanitizer whenever he uses it or if you need some. keeps a hair tie on his wrist for you if you wear them. always has medicine if you need it. brings an extra bento for you and keeps an extra drink in his bag for you. keeps an extra hoodie with him in case it starts to rain and you forgot yours or it’s cold. automatically wipes off any table when you sit down,

kenma:

offers his seat to you if the place is crowded even though it makes him have to stand. keeps medicine in his bag for you if you ever feel ill, are on your period (if you get them!), or have a headache. gives you his other headphone when listening to anything. offers you his switch or phone if yours dies. holds your hand in crowded places so you don’t get lost.

“y/n,” the quiet whisper pulls you gently back to consciousness as you struggle to stay asleep. “hey, love, it’s time to wake up.” he murmurs, shaking your shoulder and you open your eyes begrudgingly.

a smile adorns his face as he looks at you, with your head resting on his chest after a long day and sleep making your face soft. “we need to get off the couch, okay? you can sleep all you want once you’re in bed.” he mumbles as he starts to sit up and you can’t help but groan as you slowly make your way to your feet. you’d only been asleep for maybe twenty minutes, but it wasn’t enough and you snuggle back into his side as you walk to your shared bedroom, ready to lie back down and finish where you left off.

immediate motion sickness. he’s so excited you called but will automatically get up assuming you’re calling him to meet up, and once he’s up, he’s jumping around. is also v likely screaming into the mic so good luck babes!!

kageyama —

not happening. either because he doesn’t get why you’re calling instead of texting so he’ll send you a “what” instead of answering, or will go to answer, accepts the call, and then hangs up accidentally in the same 5 seconds. you’re better off just texting him.

tsukishima —

is very blatantly doing something else on his phone while calling you. all you see is his forehead and he responds super dryly the entire time. “what do you want?”/“mhm”/“okay” man does not seem to have a care in the world but if you say it’s important, he’ll look up and actually listen but if not.. welp.

yamaguchi —

social anxiety to the max unless he’s comfortable w/ you. if not, he’ll probably just text you but if he is, he’ll pick up! he’s the type to multitask when on the phone, so he’ll be talking to you while also sending you tiktoks and answering your snaps, this man is busy but when you have his attention you get ALL of it, just in multiple forms. he always has something fun to talk to you about and will happily listen to you talk abt your day.

yachi —

poor babes is an anxious wreck. she’ll probably not answer in time because she’s overthinking it but it she does, she is the sweetest to ft! she’ll prop her phone up around her and give you her full attention, always enthusiastically responding to whatever you tell her and nodding along. if you let her carry the convo, give her a second to calm down, but will happily talk to you for hours.

noya —

always answers, even in class, which is why he’s had his phone taken on numerous occasions. if he’s up and moving about, get ready because he’s not gonna put you down and motion sickness will be a thing TM so good luck, but if he’s not, he’ll either hold his phone if in bed or prop you up against something if elsewhere. is the type to complain if you don’t show your face but if you do, he’ll compliment it the second he picks up. king of ft screenshots whether because he finds you pretty or for blackmail, screenshots will be taken.

tanaka —

facetimes you out of nowhere all the time lmao. at least once a day. he’s the one to call but he’ll always ask after you, seeing how you’re day went, making sure you ate, if you need anything, just super sweet all around. if you’re busy and hang up soon or don’t answer, he’ll always text you to “call me later, hope your days going great!” will try to make plans while you’re on the phone but forgets to write them down so you’re having to remind him day of lmao

sugawara —

little shit. if he knows you’re supposed to be doing something, will NOT pick up and instead text you giving you shit about procrastinating. if you’re not busy, he probably is ngl. He’s the type to prop you up on his desk while he’s working, and talk to you about anything and everything. you will literally talk for hours before this man hangs up, and half the time he’ll force you to do it instead because he doesn’t want to. is the type to facetime you if you’re eating at work or something so that you can do it together!

asahi —

another anxious one. he picks up every time, but all you see is his forehead if he’s focusing on you or the ceiling is he’s busy or self conscious. he’ll listen to what ever you’re saying, but doesn’t really put in his input unless asked, typically just humming along. the sweetest goodbyes though. he’ll always make sure to wish you a good day and make plans to call or meet up later.

daichi —

he either answers when you call or an hour later when he finally checks his phone. it’s not malicious, he’s just busy between school and being captain of the volleyball team. when he calls he always tries to give you his full attention, but that rarely last long lmao. if he gets interrupted he always makes sure to tell you though and will call back when immediately finished with whoever it is he was helping.

kiyoko —

she like daichi, isn’t on her phone too much, but will try to answer if she’s sees it. if she doesn’t, she’ll send a lil “??” to check in but rarely initiates a call after missing one. she’s not too talkative on phone calls but will happily talk with you if you need her too. usually just hums along with what you’re saying, and wish you goodbye before you hang up.
