Strangely, despite the original 1996 release of Super Mario 64 having screenshots from the finished version on the back of the box (top), the 1998 Player's Choice version used prerelease screenshots instead (bottom).
Since the early screenshots appear to be showing the same scenarios, the most likely (though still speculative) explanation is that the Player's Choice ones were taken first, then the marketing team noticed the version was not current. They then retook them for the first release in the finished version, and possibly forgot about the change for the rerelease, reverting to the original ones.

In Super Mario Sunshine, the internal name of the Mecha-Bowser boss is "tinkoopa", suggesting that the material it is made out of is tin, a metal known for its low durability. This would explain why it is so brittle, as it falls apart relatively quickly during the battle.

In Super Mario Maker 2, Big Rocky Wrenches appear the same size as regular Rocky Wrenches while hiding in the ground. Whenever they pop out, they briefly grow to their intended size, throw a big wrench, and shrink before retreating.
If the setup in the footage is used to cause a Big Rocky Wrench to fall into a Twister, it will never grow to its intended size while inside the wind, but will continue to throw big wrenches. This creates the impression of the game being glitched whereby a small Rocky Wrench is unexpectedly throwing large projectiles.

Mario, Luigi and Yoshi heads with corrupted palettes found in development files for Yoshi's Island. The Mario and Luigi heads are appear to be based on the bonus room backgrounds from the Super Mario All-Stars version of Super Mario Bros., while the Yoshi one appears to be original.

In Super Mario Bros. 3, whenever a vine grows from a block, it creates visible vine tiles until it hits a solid object. However, internally, the action of creating vine collision and visible vine tiles are not linked, and happen simultaneously but separately.
As such, if a vine is made to grow while partially offscreen, the collision will correctly be created for the entire length of the vine since it is not affected by graphics, but the visible vine tiles will become corrupted. Note how in the footage, some of the vine is normal, some only halfway drawn, and some is invisible, while Mario can still climb up.

In Donkey Kong Country 2, Wrinkly Kong runs the Kong Kollege, where she offers to save the game for Diddy Kong and Dixie Kong. A pre-release screenshot from the Spanish Nintendo Acción magazine shows Funky Kong inside the Kong Kollege instead.
Whether he was only used as a placeholder or whether Funky Kong was actually supposed to be a teacher in an early version of the game is unknown.

In the finished version of Super Mario 64, the Eyerok boss has eyes that have large blue irises and visible eyelids. An extremely brief shot from a pre-release promotional video for the game shows that originally, the boss had eyes with no eyelids and much smaller brown irises instead, making it appear more alert.

In the Metro Kingdom in Super Mario Odyssey, the small side room containing the "Taking Notes: In the Private Room" Power Moon actually has an unused copy of the same room loaded behind the camera, mirrored in relation to the visible copy.
By using a glitch to clip through walls as seen in the footage, the copy can be reached and even has collision; however, the camera would not normally move to show that room. As such, a combination of a regularly possible glitch (to access the room) and modifying the game (to unlock the camera to follow Mario) were used for this demonstration.

In the original NES version of Super Mario Bros. (left), the sprite used for the axe behind Bowser's bridges has a missing pixel in the bottom left. This was clearly not intentional as it was fixed in the Super Mario All-Stars version (right).
