Sometimes when people vent their problems, they’re not looking for an answer but rather they need someone strong enough to absorb their venting. Lending an active ear than an active mouth goes a long way. Just be there for someone.

I’m a man from the Midwest

- I’m Generation X. I learned my manners before the Internet. I understand how precious the gift of a woman’s body is. The porn these boys see and think is how all women want to be treated didn’t exist when I was a boy.

- It never crosses my mind to be disrespectful to a woman. My Mother was part of a generation that had to fight for basic rights. I saw that fight and I understand how to respect a woman without thinking she is less than me.

That’s how it is

- If we walk on the street, I walk on the traffic side.

That’s how it is.

- If you are cold, you’ll wear my jacket.

That’s how it is.

- If you are scared, I’ll hold you until you feel better.

That’s how it is.

- If we go out to dinner, I pay.

That’s how it is.

- If we ride in a pickup with a bench seat, you’re in the middle next to me.

That’s how it is.

- If we have an argument about something important to you, I’ll likely defer to you. But if it is important to me, we’ll do things my way.

That’s how it is.

- In public, I will never belittle you. And you will never challenge me.

That’s how it is.

- In the bedroom, I won’t ask for what I want. I’ll take it.

That’s how it is.

- And if someone hurts you, they should pray to whatever god they are about to meet.

And that’s definitely how it is.

Elementary teacher Barry White, Jr, has a secret handshake for all his students. A girl who was often late to class for visiting his room every morning to get her handshake made him realize how powerful something so simple could be, so he decided to do it for all the kids in one of his classes. He then thought, ‘Ok, if I can do 20, I can do 20 more,’ came up with handshakes for all his students, and now even has them for teachers, volunteers, and students in other grades. Source
