You’re probably about to see a lot of crap going round about this because what the hell?? It’s advertised on the playstore as an unofficial AO3 app with free fanfic to read and it’s pretty popular

I downloaded it and yeah… when they say unofficial AO3 app they really mean they’ve ripped a bunch of content off AO3 and it’s just on there to read. Searching my AO3 handle gets me this:

What the hell. That’s my stuff. 144 fics to read. The stats you can see for the ones there are ripped from AO3 too. Beyond obviously, I was never contacted about having my work put up on an app I’ve never heard of. And what makes this better?

There’s an option to go Premium and even to leave a tip. They’re purportedly keeping the app alive with this cash but to call a spade a spade, they’re profiting off fanfic by ripping it from AO3 and asking users to pay for a premium service.

I’m furious. The reviews on this app are all talking about how useful the users did or didn’t find it; no one seems concerned that the app should not exist in the first place. What the hell

As a writer I’m going to be contacting AO3 about this (though things seem to be kicking off to the point that I’m sure they already know). I’m making this post to let any users of the app know: I know having an AO3 app would be great but this is not the answer. To rip content from people on AO3 and try to profit from it is deeply not okay, and flies directly in the face of so many core elements of fandom. We are not for sale.

Urgent call for Proofreaders!

Hello! I’m currently looking for proofreaders to work on proofreading for translated comics (from Japanese and Korean). No experience is necessary, just a good grasp on grammar and storytelling. Preference is for writers.

This is completely voluntary, and you get to work together in a team with other people who are assigned other duties (such as a translator themselves). We’re not looking to pay people, this is voluntary work for fun as a hobby that you can leave at any time, so it can just be something you do when you have free time.

You can dm me for details, but the genres we work on are usually YA focused (or shoujo and josei for the correct terms). If you’re a writer who wants to work outside Original English Language stuff for experience, this is a really good starting point!

i know i sometimes just spin out random takes but as someone who’s been reading a lot of pseudo European/western historical manga (think isekai villainess stuff), I really hate the ones that take place during a revolution or a revolt against corrupt aristocrats because the main female lead is usually the “victim to the masses” (if you can really call it that...politically speaking) and revolutionaries are depicted as a dumb stupid mob overtaken by “pig-like bloodlust” and “uneducated fervor” to quote some of this shit. like I already know Japan is a heavily right-winged leaning country but I hate this shit in shoujo manga. Yeah. This is targeted at young/teen girls. Fuck off with your thinly-veiled propaganda.

For reference in case anyone wants to look this up, this is the premise of The Wolf Lord’s Lady and the reason why the main character was killed and practically 100% of I Favor the Villainess when they’re not talking about lgbt issues.

ok, the pale horse manwha? a work of literature honestly. and this is coming from someone who has a bachelors in english lit. it really is written and constructed like a piece of literature rather than pop/pulp/teen fiction. like the manwha is TEEMING with potential for literary analysis.
