Real observations since I started wearing a wizard hat daily:

- Brim is so wide that I stay BONE DRY taking walks in the rain

- Brim can be positioned to block the sun from ever getting in my eyes AND keeping it off the back of my neck

- The pointed top part creates an air pocket, keeping my head from getting hot or squishing my hair as it might in a ball cap

- Hat can easily be pulled down over the tips of my ears without looking dumb, protecting them from wind chill

- Strangers say they like my hat, giving me the chance to tell them that I am a wizard

- When you’re wearing a wizard hat, ALL OTHER FASHION CHOICES become secondary, allowing you to branch out with style

googling shit like "why do i feel bad after hanging out with my friends" and all of the answers are either "you need better friends" (i don't; my friends are wonderful) or "your social battery is drained, you need to rest and regain your energy levels" (i don't; i've got tons of energy, it's just manifesting as over-the-top neurotic mania). why is this even happening. it's like some stupid toll i have to pay as a punishment for enjoying myself too much

I still need to whittle down the summery down to, ya know, actual summery length- but the entire thing is about a dimension known as the Hiatus being VERY pissed off about being the dumping ground of all the other failed to form dimensions, so to get rid of all the other survivors, it keeps fucking them up in any way possible. Usually by causing various chunks of the ground to vanish before reforming after a bit.

That being said- the sorcerers survivors managed to figure out how to stablize the ground, keeping it from vanishing. In turn, the Hiatus then brought out its own humans- they’re known as Dustborn, they’re incredibly impressionable and malluable, but when they’re exposed to any sort of stablization magic, their instincts take over and they’ll do whatever they can to destroy em.

Which, can lead to big ol’ explosions.

The story follows a Dustborn known as Remy, he follows after a vampire known as Mateo, and due to his impressionableness, he actually starts to take after Mateo and eventually becomes basically a vampire fledgling- without being a vampire.

LOTS of surviving, LOTS of learning, and eventually, at the end of the book, they manage to get out of the Hiatus.
