Reminders for fanfic writers who think it “doesn’t count”

✦ Your writing counts. like, a lot. If someone felt something because of what you wrote, then it matters. That scene you almost didn’t post? Yeah. Believe me, someone out there bookmarked it for a reason.

✦ Writing existing characters doesn’t make it “less than.” You’re building arcs, crafting dialogue, emotion, pacing. You’re studying character psychology like a scientist. That’s not “just fanfic,” that’s storytelling.

✦ “but it’s just fanfic” ...no. STOP, it’s craft. It’s understanding tone. It’s hitting emotional beats. It’s layering theme and backstory and prose into something people feel. You’re doing the work, you just don’t get graded on it. (Which, honestly is a blessing.)

✦ Writing fanfic means you love stories enough to live inside them. You care, deeply. You care enough to reimagine, to explore, to add something of yourself to a world you didn’t create and somehow still make it feel brand new.

✦ Someone out there rereads your fic like it’s their favorite book. Maybe they’ve saved a line to their notes app,or they quote it to a friend. Maybe they just think about it when they’re having a bad day. That little fic you almost deleted, it’s comfort now.

✦ Your comments section is real. Every “I needed this” and “this made me cry in a good way” is proof, you don’t need a book deal to matter. You don’t need a publisher to have an impact, because you already do.

FANFIC IS WRITING! Fanfic is yours.

You’re not “just” anything. You’re a writer, own it. Be proud of that.

Israel literally blew up the places that served to keep track of the death toll.

Though let’s not forget about the less showy causes of death facing the Palestinians: the kinds born of starvation and malnutrition, from drinking bad water, etc.

Israel has also literally blown up all the hospitals in Gaza as well.

In a “there will be no paywalls on the basics needed to sustain life: food, water, shelter, and medicine” kind of way.

Also “the businesses will be owned by the workers, not some distant CEO, thus enabling the workers to decide how the business is operated and which jobs are automated” kind of way.

Not socialist in a “I won’t have to work” type of way but socialist in a “I’ll still be working but I won’t be worried I won’t make the rent” type of way. In a “billions won’t be hoarded by one person” type of way. In a “janitors, fast-food workers, child care workers, preschool teachers, hotel clerks, personal care and home health aides, and grocery store cashiers, will live comfortably” type of way. In a “the sick and elderly will be cared for” type of way. In a “no child should work” type of way.

In anti-choice art, the aborted baby gets a straight shot to Heaven, aka a land of eternal joy and peace. Yet if the baby had been carried to term and born, there’s a chance that baby might have, after passing the age of accountability, fallen away from the one true path, the straight and narrow, and wound up in Hell, aka a land of eternal pain and suffering. This is something likely to happen to a baby born to a sinful harlot or raised by an overburdened foster care system.

So by that logic, the Christian Right should celebrate people who get and carry out abortions. By aborting their unborn child, the pregnant person is risking their eternal soul to save their child from the fires of Hell.

In fact, given their belief that no sin however great is so great as to permanently separate you from God, so long as you pray and ask forgiveness for it, by their logic, a person can undergo an abortion, ask for forgiveness immediately afterwards, and be completely free and in the clear. Both parent and child can be reunited and enjoy Heaven together.

In fact, the medical personnel involved with the abortion could perform the procedure, then immediately ask for forgiveness afterwards and wind up in the clear as well.

Everybody wins!

Of course, you try to make any of these arguments with anti-choice Christians, they get really mad really quick, but that’s to be expected. The incoherence of their theology is a feature, not a bug. The whole point behind their ideology is a desire to make women they deem deserving suffer; anything else they use to argue their position is simply a tactic to try to advance their goals. You talk to any anti-choicers and it doesn’t take long for any high-minded concerns about the sanctity of life to degenerate into, “The filthy sluts must be punished!”

This can be seen in the large numbers of women on the Christian Right who, themselves, have had abortions. Because it’s different for them, y’see. They’re just the unfortunate victim of circumstance, a poor gal who made a mistake, not one of those whores who deserve to suffer. 🙄

So you are telling me, according to the San Antonio Police Department, its not a hate crime when you:

- threaten to burn a gay couple’s house down for two years and openly calling them slurs

- actually do burn down the house

- kill their dog and place it’s skull and harness on top of the couple’s mailbox for them to see

- shoot and kill one of them while they are crying over seeing their murdered dog’s remains while you are also calling them homophobic slurs

During both Pride and Indigenous History Month nonetheless.

So far in LA an Australian news reporter has been shot in the leg by a rubber bullet, a British reporter has been shot by a sponge bullet and sent to the hospital for emergency surgery. A NY Post reporter has been shot in the head with a rubber bullet and went to the hospital for a large bruise on his forehead, whiplash and neck pain, and CNN reporters were handcuffed and escorted away being told to not come back or they will be arrested BECAUSE they are reporters.

It seems like all reporters there to give the real story are being targeted by police/ICE/military in LA.

As protests start ramping up and violence escalates please remember:

DO NOT PUT MILK IN YOUR EYES FOR PEPPER SPRAY OR TEAR GAS.

It can and will cause infection due to bacteria. Flush with water, distilled if possible, and never EVER wear contact lenses to protests where there may be police retaliation.

Kettles are illegal the way chokeholds are illegal.

In the wake of the 2020 protests, numerous cities made a point of passing laws forbidding chokeholds, yet many of these same places already had anti-chokehold laws.

It’s just that cops had been doing them for years with no consequences whatsoever.

In fact, when it comes to any law or regulation that allegedly limits what a cop can do, just assume that it’ll protect you about as much as a paper parasol umbrella will protect you in a hurricane.
