an unfounded guilt that knocks and claws at my already chipped-away ribcage.

And I let it in—an invited intruder.

It grew and expanded until it reached my throat,

and I began choking on it.

It’s not loud, but it’s constant

like an itch at the back of my throat.

It crawls into my brain,

and its voice echoes through my bones,

stained by things I didn’t do:

“You should’ve.”

And I don't argue.

Sometimes, everything feels too much for my frail mind to hold,

and it all bleeds through the cracks, spilling onto my face.

This specific track from Ultrakill’s soundtrack might be the only one to feature a solo piano—an instrument that symbolizes elegance, beauty, and sophistication. With its rich history, the piano is capable of conveying thousands of emotions and meanings through its form, hue, and melody.

The solo piano could represent Gabriel, who suffers punishment in the act where this track plays. The keys in this piece, A♭ major and F minor, are deeply expressive, mirroring Gabriel’s state of mind as the council rips the light from him. A♭ major is often associated with calmness and emotional sincerity—grand yet introspective, evoking longing. Meanwhile, F minor is sorrowful and deeply introspective, carrying the weight of melancholy and tragedy. Much like Gabriel’s situation, these keys express an intimate confession of sadness, regret, and loss.

Together, A♭ major and F minor create a balance between resilience and vulnerability—just like Gabriel. They speak of suffering yet carry a quiet determination, with raw grief softened by a bittersweet remembrance of something lost—like God in Gabriel’s case.

While in the Act I epilogue, Gabriel’s right to argue is stripped away by the council, the song speaks for him—sobbing into the godless void. Although, the cry is no longer just a cry; it is a silent prayer.
