We know there's a Sher/iarty truther fangirl and Anderson imagines a kissing Molly scenario. We can guess there are plenty of John/lockers with how obsessed the public is with whether or not they're dating.

I think the mainstream fans probably wouldn't even know that much about Mycroft, but I mean we see Mycroft utilize Anderson and one more person so it's not like their connection is a secret to them. Anyone being so obsessed with Sherlock would at least know he has a brother.

I imagine any that was written would be pretty OOC since no one knows the real Mycroft well enough to write his care for Sherlock accurately.

I am not over how romantically coded Mycroft's "Your loss would break my heart" while facing away from Sherlock and him choking on his cigarette in response is.

I think what convinced me that I did believe, at least subconsciously, that Holmescest is real is that to me their dynamic loses something fundamental if they are both heterosexual men.

Even if they are not fully aware they are attracted to each other, I think they are at least aware that at some point they could be. That there's something there.

coming from me with a whole ass separate blog, (here I am talking about if you ship Holmescest publicly on your blog and already make posts about it)

A post doesn't have to contain explicit incest references to count as Holmescest. It's just the ship name. So, if you struggle to separate between that and just brothers content, you don't have to.

You can make a cute "innocent" post (struggling what word to use other than platonic as that isn't technically correct in this case) and tag it Holmescest. You can make gifsets and tag them Holmescest. You can make your own or comissioned cuddling art and tag it Holmescest.

People have gotten pushback for it before, I understand reluctance for other people's posts (trust me, I do, even if it's a Holmescest friendly blog)

This is our ship. We are allowed to tag it. We are allowed to exist here. You can take up space. You don't have to make yourself marketable. (Stuff I wish I was able to tell to late 2023 me)

Because when all of the loving stuff is in the platonic tags, then people who see our tag will just see smut and sex and we will be reduced to sex obsessed incest fetishists.

I have seen it happen already when I read a reddit comment by an anti. Which an anti will hate you anyway to be clear, but it doesn't hurt to be able to defend yourself to more general fandom members, especially when you are not as big as other incest ships.

One the other hand, when someone used "Shercroft" for everything it gave their blog a whole different vibe. For a lack of a better term, it just seemed more wholesome. Like they cared deeply about this dynamic and all the complex intersecting aspects of it. They even tagged it on bigger Tumblr posts like "imagine your ship" ones, and God, do I wish I was this brave!

And it's your personal decision, of course. Tag which way you prefer and organise your blog the way you like.

I just wish what happened to me didn't happen. I wish I had the courage to do it in the beginning. It's too late for me, I have already made my choice.

And it's an insidious form of anti at that. Because people might not pay too much attention to an otherwise positive looking post or your blog and think you actually support them.

*it's in quotes because I swear you all don't know what that word even means in the context you are using it (in this case meaning ships involving minors or teens having sex since there is no minor x adult ships in the fandom)...

One weird thing that I noticed a couple times is when giving Mycroft/John/Sherlock or a story with both Mycroft/John and Sherlock/John recs (which in this specific case is either a threesome where they focus on John, or they date him separately with little overlap and there's angst about it) the reviewer will say the fic contains Holmescest (mostly describing it in this very scandalous way) and it just... does not.

And I don't mean there was false advertising, I believe the person themselves fully believes the story does contain Holmescest, but it just... doesn't. And I will read it several times because maybe I just missed it, because where is the scandalous thing they are freaking out about?

And it can't be just the close proximity in a sexual context with a third person implies some sort of grey area by itself, because that would then mean *all* Myjohnlock fics are that way and they singled those specific ones out and put up that disclaimer for a reason (maybe it's that the author themselves used the Holmescest relationship tag?).

But then the actual fic has no sexual or romantic interaction between them. Sometimes it's zero contact and sometimes... okay I will try to describe this one example.

So one of them actually means to touch John but accidentally touches his brother's hand instead and it's treated as this big moment where he hesitates and then decides to leave the hand there.

And I am like... they are... touching hands. Yes it's in a sexual context, but I think on the scale of things doing sexual things with your naked brother nearby and seeing him at his most vulnerable beats accidental hand touching.

I would classify that as mild incestuous vibes, not "I will suffer eternal damnation for witnessing" it kind of deal.

When a post just gives off such Holmescest vibes but you don't want to comment it because you don't want for OP to get offended or weirded out because maybe it was unintentional but then how could it have not have been just come on.

Or the post is in this weird middle ground where it was intended as Holmescest but it's subtle, but it's still too Holmescest to post as not that?
