fundamentally the issue with dick grayson in fanon (clingy, insecure, emotionally dependent on others) is a bad reading of showmanship — dick grayson has never wanted for a spotlight, nor does he want it

we conflate receiving attention with craving attention. dick grayson in canon doesn’t beg his brothers to like him, or be pettily violent when bruce finds another kid. dick grayson is a born showman, sure, but he hides from the stage more than he enjoys being the centre of his focus. he rejects honesty and embraces deception, like a magician hiding his cards behind his hand. he is resplendent and you cannot look away. he distracts you and then runs like hell

Huntress is accused of murder. Again. As one [Helena] is in the year 2000.

And Dick is immediately like “cut the bullshit we have no proof”. And they’re like “fuck you it’s Huntress because we said so”.

So Dick hops down to Helena’s apartment to offer help. And she acts so damn surprised to hear that: One, he doesn’t immediately clock her to be a villain; and two, he wants to help her case.

Anyways it doesn’t go smoothly because at this point Helena’s like “fuck the whole bat vigilante crew”, but rather than being super pissy or pushy about it, Dick just leaves her be and dips.

Not saying this would have solved things, but I might hate Taylor's run less if he had given this moment to Roy instead as a callback to Outsiders, but that would've been asking Taylor to understand Dick's character and well we all know how he was about that.

Dick and Donna’s friendship, my beloved. No matter how long they spend time apart, they pick things up right where they left off. It’s not just about Donna worrying about Dick, it’s about both of them supporting each other. It’s about Donna stepping in when Dick’s being self destructive, but also Dick being there for Donna at her darkest hours - when she doesn’t know who she is or overwhelmed by grief. Their relationship is a balance, they take turns being supportive, they take space when they need it and they make space when they don’t. They’re honest with each other, they call each other out when they’re wrong. They’re messy and sweet with one another. It’s about strong relationships with room for platonic hugs and forehead kisses and gently brushing hair out of someone’s face. There are missteps but they come back. It’s about allowing yourself to be vulnerable in front of someone, sharing your weaknesses without the fear of being perceived as weak. It’s a type of love that’s just as intense and deep as romance, without some of the risks but coming with a risk of it’s own, that’s devastating to lose and broken only by death. It’s about Dick still drowning in grief six weeks after she died.
