This will probably be a VERY different post than what I'm used to posting, because this is a small part of an ANGST I was doing about my favorite Harleith (more focused on Harley because yes. I said so)

𝓣 he night was silent, heavy with the distant sound of rain tapping on the window. Leith's apartment was plunged in darkness, lit only by the pale glow of a forgotten lamp. Harley was curled up on the couch, hugging his knees, staring into space.

Leith had come out of the kitchen with two mugs of tea, but stopped when he noticed Harley's withdrawn posture. The doctor didn't move even when Leith approached. Only when he sat down next to him, offering the mug, did Harley look up—and his eyes were red and teary.

— Hey... - Leith murmured, his voice soft. - What's wrong, mon amour?

Harley hesitated. His throat moved as if swallowing something too heavy. For a moment, Leith thought he would simply ignore it. But then Harley spoke, in a whisper:

— I remember... her voice.

Leith frowned.

— Your mother's?

Harley nodded slowly, and his eyes filled again.

— She said... she regretted bringing me into this world. That I was the reason everything had gone wrong in her life... and... - He swallowed hard, trembling. - She beat me when she was drunk. She blamed me for my father's death. And I... I believed her.

Leith put down his mug. Without hesitation, he approached slowly, respecting his space. But Harley, broken inside, threw himself against him as if drowning. His body trembled. His thin hands gripped the fabric of Leith's blouse tightly, as if he feared that if he let go, it would all go up in smoke.

— She said I was worthless... that I'd never be loved by anyone... - His voice began to crack. - And no matter how hard I try to ignore it, sometimes I still hear it in my head. As if it were true.

Leith held Harley close to his chest, his heart clenching as he felt the man, always so arrogant and sarcastic, collapse like a wounded child. He gently stroked his long dark hair, resting his chin on Harley's head.

— It's a lie. - He said firmly. - You're smart, strong... and yes, arrogant as fuck—but you're loved, Harley. You are loved. By me.

Harley held his breath. He was silent for long seconds before letting out a sob, swallowing hard to try to stop crying in such a pathetic way like a child.

Long minutes after the crisis, Harley managed to calm down and fell into a deep sleep. Leith gently covered him, as if touching fragile glass that could easily shatter, kissed the man's damp, pale cheek, let out a relieved sigh and looked at him, peacefully.
