Remus endangered students. If he wanted a job, he should have been responsible. And Remus himself stated he deserved it.

Look, i love Remus Lupin, he’s my favourite marauder but if you think i’m going to be mad because Snape made him lose his job you are wrong. Remus insulted Snape on the marauder’s map, he humilitated him during the boggart’s lesson and never apologized for what he didn’t do when his shitty friends tormented him. Excuse me but snape had every reason to be petty or even cruel towards him. Remus was not a perfect depressed icon who eat chocolate and was nice to everyone. He was also flawed… there is no need to paint him as a cinnamonroll who never did anything wrong. It’s a disservice to his character.

James saved Snape's life, okay, but right after sexually assaulted him. Obviously he can't ask for Harry to be spared without being murdered, and he won't ask for James because the guy sexually assaulted him. He thought Sirius was a mass murderer, which is why he threw a hissy fit when the man was spared, and Remus endangered kids, and then quit on his own.

He also saved Neville and Hermione, plus he didn't actively taunt all the children, only Harry, Neville and Hermione, the latter two being twice in the entire series. Whereas, he saved Neville twice in OOTP from being choked, and he also became less biased in HBP. And why tf shouldn't he insult the two people who bullied him for 5-6 years of his life?

His pain was mostly James's fault, considering as James sexually assaulted him and bullied him for 6 years in his childhood. Only a fraction of his pain was his fault, and he attempted to redeem himself for it. He also saved innocent people, but there are many people to blame, both Snape and James are to blame. It's just that Snape is better. Don't give me "he only did it because Lily was threatened" that can't go on for years and years, plus Dumbledore couldn't save Lily, so he after Lily's death had no reason to join Dumbledore but still did (he had to be convinced, but that was only because he didn't think the Dark Lord would return).

James also harassed Lily (atleast in SWM), and attempted to blackmail her into dating him. And when Lily finally pulled out her wand, he threatened her as if she was attacking him for no reason. Idc if he matured later on, that isn't enough to win an award, and yes, I acknowledge James's good deeds, but atleast imo Snape did braver things.

snape broke a shit ton of rules and then ON HIS OWN VOLITION (sirius didn’t force him to do anything) went to try to catch solid proof of remus being a werewolf ON THE FULL MOON so that he could convince lily to stay away from the marauders.

and after all that, after having his life saved by james, snape was still totally okay with james and his infant child being murdered by voldemort, threw a hissy fit when sirius (an innocent man) was spared a fate worse than death, and then outed remus as a werewolf causing remus to lose the ONLY stable job he’s had in years.

just kidding. he: tried to kill neville’s toad and punishes gryffindor when it didn’t work, insulted hermione’s physical appearance and one of her biggest insecurities when she was just A FOURTEEN YEAR OLD GIRL, joined in with the slytherin students in taunting children that were a third of his age, called his only friend a slur but still thought james wasn’t good enough for her, willingly joined a nazi group that tortured and killed innocent people, was prejudiced as hell against werewolves and muggles (and gryffindors), constantly insulted harry’s dead father and godfather when harry was still grieving, etc.

don’t even make excuses. don’t. his own pain (which is mostly his fault to begin with, seeing as lily was only targeted due to him snitching about the prophecy) doesn’t mean he should spend his time trying to make other innocent people miserable. don’t blame anyone else other than snape.

True, BUT Remus endangered students. That's why Remus deserved to be fired. Snape, however, needed to watch over and ensure no harm came to Harry. So, he CANNOT be fired, because we know what happens every year. Snape also made fake Veritaserum, and decoded Harry's message to the Order in OOTP, so it's not about should be fired, it's about CAN HE BE FIRED.

Tbh you're just promoting Snily here, because you're saying Lily was Snape's motivation. Doing good things to protect/avenge the ones you love is a good thing (the first one is, the second is more ambiguous), and anyways, his motivation did change, because he accepted that Harry had to die, and was willing to let Harry die for the good of the world. Remember, at first he only promised to protect Harry for Lily's sake, but in the end, he let Harry die TO SAVE THE ENTIRE WORLD. You're indirectly promoting Snily here, because your loved ones being your motivation to do good things isn't necessarily bad.

I’m getting really tired of the whole ‘james vs snape’ debacle, they were both assholes at one point or another and you can argue that snape did some good things however the fundamental difference is the change in motive. as a teenager in a phase he eventually grew out of, james’ only motivation to do good things were his friends and lily, leading him to be despicable to everyone else including snape and that is canonical fact, however then as he progressed into an adult his motivation changed. he joined the order of the phoenix, saving snape’s life, he fought for good in the wizarding war and his motivation changed as lily fell in love with him. he no longer just did good for his friends but for others and their rights in the war. snape on the other hand, his motivation remained lily, not the good of the war or anyone else. he did some good things but he was despicable to everyone else such as his treatment of neville, which is an odd parallel to james’ treatment of him as a teenager. they were both good and horrifically bad at points, but it boils down to motivation why james was fundamentally a better person in the end.

Not really, both were grey characters with equal amount of white in them, but Snape had more white, atleast by the end of his life. Even Harry acknowledged that.
