Mizore the ringed seal has passed away

Yesterday Otaru aquarium confirmed his death, he was only 3

Read below for some background on his situation (as well as my thoughts)

in august last year it was announced that Mizore from osaka aquarium was going to move to Otaru aquarium. This right away caused concern, mizore had a tricky birth, he was sick & his mother didn't want to care for him because of that, so the staff at osaka aquarium nursed him back to health and raised him. He had a very strong bond with the staff there as well as living with 2 other seals yuki & arare.

In october he was moved & it was said that he'd be moving for a breeding program, mizore only turned 3 this April and male ringed seals mate at around 7 so this was odd.

Once moved to otaru mizore was put in a small cube enclosure by himself. From what I saw from the people who went to visit him he hardly had any enrichment, he just sat around & scratched at the walls. At osaka mizores favourite spot was this litte raised ice shelf he could lean against and there was nothing alike it at otaru, I didn't see much videos of keepers coming in to play with him. He was very social & loved people. Otaru aquarium seems to have a tricky history with animals passing away which concerned people regarding Mizore moving there.

According to otarus blog post he started to refuse food early June, that is an obvious sign of an animal stressed in its environment.. it is very sad to say but I think poor mizore died of loneliness & a broken heart, this never would've happened if he stayed at osaka aquarium and I am quite upset with the situation

I’m firmly on team “American Dad was always good”, but about a year into the show moving to TBS the plots got a lot wilder and weirder and I think we can all agree that was a good thing. Rabbit Ears (which is in either season 14 or 16 depending on who you ask, the numbering system of AD seasons is kind of messed up and Wikipedia and varies streaming services can’t agree on what the “correct” number is) seemed to be a turning point where the show really hit its stride and started putting out consistently great episodes pretty regularly, but there’s a lot of homeruns and hidden gems even before that.

Now, the thing about American Dad is that while the continuity of the show is very loose there IS a lot of character humor and callback gags. Thus, it can be hard to recommend a perfect place to start for people who don’t want to go back to season one when the show wasn’t as good and work their way upwards through over 300 episodes because a lot of the jokes work best when you have a solid understanding of the people, the places, and the weird logic on which the stories run.

That’s why I’ve put together a few “American Dad Starter packs” with episodes that either follow a specific “arc” or theme to help new comers who want to try the show out a way to ease their way into in and see if it’s style of humor is for them.

For each pack I’ve given you the episode names, but not what number or season they’re in because like I said it tends to vary depending on where you’re watching, so you’re going to have to do some googling sorry. A trick I’ve found that usually works is to look them on Wikipedia and past about season eleven if the episode list you’re seeing doesn’t match that go back 2 or 3 seasons.

Pack one: “Roger’s Personas” Episodes: Fellow Traveler, The One That Got Away, Jenny Fromdabloc, Shallow Vows, The Dentist’s Wife, Ricky Spanish, Persona Assistant Description: For people who want to better understand why and how Roger the alien is like 300 different people at the same time and society as a whole just rolls with it.

Pack two: “Let’s get Spooky!” Episodes: Rabbit Ears, Echoes, Hot Water, Enter Stanman, You Are Here, Exquisite Corpses, Salute Your Sllort, Family Time, The Three Fs, The Witches of Langley, The Pleasanting at Smith House Description: Most American tv shows only do horror themed episodes around Halloween, but at some point the writers of American Dad realized “Wait, we can write episodes with horror elements whenever we want! Even if it’s not Halloween time!” so now we get like 3-4 spooky episodes per season and there was much rejoicing. To be clear: these are just a few of my favorite spooky episodes, there’s actually way more than this.

Pack three: “Jeff’s Space Adventures” Episodes: Naked to the Limit One More Time, Lost in Space, The Longest Distance Relationship, Holy Shit Jeff's Back!, Bahama Mama, Roger's Baby Description: Jeff gets sent to space, try to guess how this story arc will begin and end and then see just how wrong you are.

Pack four: “Danuta and Nerfer” Episodes: Faking Bad, "Shark?!, Funnyish Games, One Fish Two Fish, Roger Needs Dick, Beyond the Alcove, Please Please Jeff, Cow I Met Your Moo-ther Description: Hayley has these two friends named Danuta and Nerfer. They started out has a background character (Danuta) and a one-off gag (Nerfer) respectively, but the writers kept making jokes about them and kept bringing them back up and eventually had them move in together and buy a bunch of bats. Why? Probably because their names are hilarious. I know that’s why I like ‘em. Anyway, here’s a few episodes where they’re either mentioned or make an appearance.

Pack Five: “Christmas with the Smiths” Episodes: The Best Christmas Story Never Told, The Most Adequate Christmas Ever, Rapture’s Delight, For Whom the Sleigh Bell Tolls, Season’s Beatings, Minstrel Krampus, Dreaming of a White Porsche Christmas, Gifted Me Liberty, Ninety North, Zero West, Santa Schmanta, Yule. Tide. Repeat, The Grounch Description: The Simpsons does the best Halloween episodes, Bob’s Burgers does the best Thanks giving episodes, and American dad does the best Christmas episodes. These are my firmly held beliefs, feel free to fight me in a field if you disagree.

Pack Six: “That one episode guest staring and co-written by The Weekend” Episode: A Starboy Is Born Description: I couldn’t figure out what I could pair this with to make it a “pack”, but I still felt like I had a moral obligation to let people know that this exists and they should watch it.

Even though the writers completely changed more than once it was still kind of a smooth climb, I'm gonna guess because new writers probably started out trying to keep consistent with its original tone but slowly learned they could do whatever the heck they want. Some of the funniest weird ones start around season 16-17, and every season moves even further from "Family Guy" shittiness than the last to where its only major downside becomes the boring art style. From 15 or 16 onwards a lot of the writing is overseen by Soren Bowie, one of the funnier Cracked writers who never turned out to be a big jerk

Now I know what you're about to ask: "Does the episode end with Klaus and the wraith breaking up, but they still remain good platonic friends and end up going on a road trip together to every major league baseball stadium with their mutual friend Jeff?" and the answer is yes.

Alright, to be clear I know the chapter was about way more than this, and I actually did think it was a very touching statement on finding reasons to live even when life seems overwhelmingly painful. But as soon as I saw the "Sex!" panel the heartfelt "that's one horny kid" quote from Family Guy popped into my broken brain and I knew this was something I needed to bring into the world even though the world does not want or need it.

Mr. Osomatsu 2nd Theatrical OVA Hits Japanese Theaters on July 21

Crunchyroll did an article about the new Osomatsu san movie, maybe go and leave a comment about how much you would love to have an English translation of it? Probably won't do anything, but it's worth a shot.

Finally found a version of the live action version of the Osomatsu san movie with English subtitles! Sapphire Luna over on twitter has done a full translation and put it up to watch online and for download:

I am so happy and excited to finally find an English subtitled version of the live-action movie Osomatsu-san AND another translation of The Hipipo Tribe. The more fan translations there are of the Osomatsu san movies (and any other Osomatsu things out there) the better. Not only because more versions means more people are going to get the chance to see it (and it's less likely that all of them will be taken down), but because translations always come out a little differently when different people do them so each one inevitably has its own voice. It gives you the chance to experience something you enjoy in a new and unique way when a different translation becomes available. I hope we get a hundred of them, for real, seriously, I love this so much.

Anyway, spread this around, and let me know if you find any other fan subs of the movies online because I want to collect as many as I can! Hopefully cool and talented people will be willing to sub the next movie when it comes out as well! Keep circulating the tapes.
