okay someone tell me why I had a realization that I'm almost to the end of a fic I've been trying to write (mostly unsuccessfully) since late April and that I'm actually a lot closer to ending I want that that I might have just worked out of the scene I kept getting stuck on and had a moment of some feeling about that and then I up and walked away from the computer. "... I might have just worked out that scene I've been struggling with and can see how to use the rest of the plan to finish this. I could be done with this today and then review it tomorrow and publish it soon. I've been stuck on that scene for months and I think I just wrote the ending of it. that was a lot easier than I thought. ... huh woah." *gets up and walks away*

why did I do that

i do appreciate the way that we tumblr users have evolved our language to discuss our feelings related to The Character/The Guy. you used to have to just say he was hot or he was making your ovaries explode or he was a precious cinnamon roll even if he looked bad or was just kind of standing there or whatever. now you can say things like “the creature” or “he looks so sopping wet here” or “i want to chain him to my radiator” like it’s just more inclusive and adaptable to the situation

Evrard was raised by a cult and then decided to fight against that darkness at some point as an adult. Alia was raised as an ardor (someone remind me to make the dowsing rod post later) and is very experienced with magic and fighting monsters and cultists. Vale "saw the light" before Evrard did, so has been fighting cultists and monsters even before him (but didn't know Lillith's name? though they might go by something else in that world). He's also a knight. Antoine is one of Evrard's closest friends and is also experienced with fighting monsters and quite knowledgeable enough that he can travel through the goatswood alone and was to be trusted with the Blackstone alone.

And then there's Arthur who's been vaguely aware* of cultists and only working against them as a p.i. for 10 ish years as an occasional thing where "oh this missing person was taken by a cult - oh a kid got dismembered time to send this to the police!" was basically his interaction with them and he knew none of the various gods or their cult's names and then these past 4 months he 1. got stalked by the King in Yellow, 2. had a run in with one of Shub's kids for like 2 minutes, 3. was captured and thrown in a prison in the Dreamlands for 3 months, 4. was given a shiny dagger by a then unknown entity who he then made a deal with, 5. learned about a cult that worships "fallen stars" 6. killed the Creature (of unknown god, well unknown to Arthur I have theories), 7. got possessed by a fragment of a god who he then unwittingly made whole. 8. found out the unknown entity if Nyarlethotep (a name which he knows probably nothing about), 9. got killed by an acolyte for Mother Darkness, 10. had a run in with a sentient forest, and 11. gets confused when people mention Azathoth and the other gods that the cultists in 48 and 49 worship.

It is very obvious to anyone paying attention that Arthur knows like 6 god names and that's it. Very little knowledge of what cult worships who. Put him in front of a monster and he'll kill it but then you say the name of the god that monster is from and he'll look confused.

The company is 4 people who have dealt with and fought cultists and gods their entire lives. And also Arthur. All I'm saying is: missing scene where someone realizes Arthur's only really been actively fighting against gods and cultists for 4 - 5 months.

(and that 3 of those were spent in a prison by a god but I don't think Arthur would readily share that but what if it got somehow brought up in conversation pleaseeeeee)
