New Year’s Challenge

Just a little reflection on 2020

10 things I did

Went the National Association of Music Merchants

Drove to the town I grew up in after 10 years of being gone

Tried online dating at met some great guys

Was a support frontline worker handling the overflow non-COVID med-surg patients so my co-workers could focus on the COVID patients

Lots of nature with treasured friends

Supported dear friends through COVID

Watched a dear friend enter into his first relationship

Became a sound technician at church as the pandemic forced us outside

Joined the professional governance at work

Got certified as a Rehabilitation Registered Nurse

 Six amazing memories: 

Way too many Zoom calls

Work bestie

Kayaking for the first time

Sister-sister trip to the UPR

Back in Brookings after ten years

The whole AV team

 I would love to:

·        Get my own apartment

·        Graduate from my Masters

·        Level up to clinical nurse C

·        A start working in my preferred field

But like 2020 so rudely reminded us it’s whatever the Lord permits.

Starting the year looking fine...

 A letter to someone I grew apart from

It’s odd. I feel like I grew closer to everyone this year.

But J & A,

I am jealous that you all got into relationships before me. Ya’ll are my best guy friends. You can’t do that! But the girls you found are amazing so I can’t even be mad.

I want to change my:

·        Paycheck – make just a little bigger

·        My address –I am so ready for my own place

·        My financial plan –make it more effective

·        My devotions –make my time with God more impactful

Be more intentional about spending time in the word.

    Started working at Loma Linda Medical Center –East Campus

    Started my Masters in Cinema, Religion, and Worldview at WWU

    Went to Adventist Laymen’s Services and Industries Conference

    Went to Society of Adventist Communicators Convention

    Played the dating game and met some amazing guys

   Started a side hustle as a digital marketer

   Got published in the Adventist World Magazine

   Planned our first family vacation since us siblings have all left home

  Shot a short film with friends

  Leased my first car

Six amazing memories:

General Conference 2020 with the whole family

Get found by love

Go to London

Spend more time with Jesus

Ms E: This one [toaster oven] is broken.

Me: Can we throw it away [rejoicing to get rid of something from the overcrowded kitchen].

Ms E: Yes.

Me: Lol.

Ms E: But I am figuring out how to tell her [my grandmother who will inevitably argue that she will surely need it one day]

Me:...

Ms E:...

Me: We'll just tell her that it broken and the ground opened up and swallowed it. We tried to save it, but we were unsuccessful.

Ms. E: Do you think she will believe that?

Me: No.

Me: [in California] How are you enjoying that?

Mom: I am staying inside.

Me: [trying to distract my coworker's very confused patient from jumping out his wheelchair and breaking his noggin] So, where did you grow up?

Patient: Amongst the white people.

CNRN: OMG! That was so racial.

Me: [Imagining the patient being born to a tribe of savage white folk]

My patient: [snickering]

Me: Why are you laughing at me?

My patient: Because I like you.

Me: Sorry, I stole your chair.

A: No, no! I gave it to you.

Wandering in the wonderful outdoors.

The more I get to know him, the more I appreciated him. The more I see him grow, the more I want to be close to him and support him.

Nurse: How was your night?

Patient: Rough.

Nurse: Why was it rough?

Patient: I dreamt I was married.

Y: [rejoicing that we were getting off work at sunset Friday night] We can still cook for Sabbath!

Me: No...

Y: Your family doesn't cook on Sabbath?

Me: We try not to.

Y: Not even wash dishes?

Me: We try not to.

Y: Wow, your the original Adventist!

It's not usually said way, but like it. I'll take it.

I was standing with a group of friends chatting after Sabbath evening vesper. An a older gentleman walked up to one my guy friends and start chatting with him.

Older gentleman: [turning to me] Is he your husband?

R: [looking at me]

Me: [looking at him in shock] No, no, no!

R: [Grabbing his heart] That was such a hopeless no....

A: [dying of laughter in the background]

I felt so bad. I didn't happen to think of him like that and there was no way to rectify the situation.

The car: [bumping over the lane dividers]

My brother: Where are you going?

Me: [driving and looking around in alarm] The car is heading off somewhere unnecessary.

My brother: Well, it's taking us with it.
