It has been a year and a month since I’ve gotten Calypso. She wasn’t fiesty, just scared and shy. She spent half that time being terrified of me, a quarter being familiar, and a few months being comfortable. Recently, she laid eggs for the first time! Last month, in fact, just before her gotcha day. Yesterday, she waddled up to me on her own accord while I worked on my laptop and hunkered down by my arm. When I reached over, she flattened herself and starting cooing.
Now, okay, that doesn’t sound very important, but she ALWAYS shies away from hands unless they have seeds or she’s been resting for a few minutes and I move very slowly. All of today she has been laying down next to me without encouragement and coos for attention, and almost always accepts pets even if they’re totally out of the blue. She doesn’t care about being hugged and squooshed with love and kisses and full body pets, she just hunkers down and coos happily. She still tells me when she’s had enough, but she doesn’t spook and walk away at every hand movement anymore. She wants to be near me just to be near me, and trust me when I say it’s so relieving coming from a bird I thought I would always be shy and terrified.
It sounds a little silly but I’m so proud that we’re still making leaps and bounds to bond and grow her confidence. After a WHOLE YEAR she’s comfortable enough to sit down right next to me, on me, even sitting in my hands. I’m always indebted to her for teaching me love and patience, this little bird is simply incredible.

I’m sorry to come back to this blog with awful news. My baby birdy, ESA, light of my life Calypso has passed in a tragic dog attack.
if you’d like to see more recent pictures of her please check out my instagram where I was most active. I’ll be reblogging some old posts here in remembrance.
Most of you may not know her, but to the ones that have followed me since the naming adventures, everyone that has liked and shared and loved this birdy like I did, thank you for your support. Calypso was my everything and I don’t know where I’m going to go from here, but just like Quail and Rex, I won’t let her hard work go to waste. My life has improved so much since this little brat was shipped in. She’s seen 4 states with me, dozens of friends, 2 late pets, and 2 and a half cherished years. I won’t ever forget her or take anything she’s taught me for granted, especially the wondrous world of pigeons. Rest in peace, lovey.

Clowns mate like snakes, coiled together in large orgies
in some cases, yes! my domestic honk fiend (norwegian black harlequin variant) enthusiastically tried to coil around most inanimate objects upon entering his heat. it was a bit frightening because it was my first time experiencing a domestic clown struggle with the throes of wanting to procreate, but i simply put out a craigslist ad and before i knew it, my lil Roosevelt was engaged in the beautiful and terrifying act of mating with a purebred violet streaked mime (she’s due to lay any day now. i can’t believe i’m going to be a grandma)
