I'm Stanice Anderson, Author, Speaker, Addictions Recovery Expert and Huffington Post Blogger. I was a heroin addict who didn't think I could stay clean and sober for 24 hours; and yet, as of May 20, 2012, it was 27 years free from the bondage of active addiction. God used people in 12-step communities, churches, old and new friends, and family to keep me encouraged, inspired, and forever moving forward--one day at a time. Not only that, but God miraculously snatched me from the greedy jaws of Death after an heroin overdose on the job, alone in my office one Sunday. After a co-worker HAPPENED to come through the office to pick up papers on her way to the airport, heard music coming from my locked office, she called the guards who found me slumped over my desk, with a hypodermic needle dangling from my wrist, more dead than alive. Breathing only 7 times per minute, I died three times in the ambulance on the way to the hospital. Each time they revived me, I whispered, "I want to live." I travel speaking, performing my one-woman shows, and most importantly reunited in an ever-growing relationship with God, my family including my son who I had abandoned during my addiction, and now have three beautiful grandchildren who were spared the ugliness of my addiction. I'm compelled to share that though I only meant to wet my feet, addiction pulled me in and tried to kill me; but God had other plans for my life; plans to prosper me and not to harm me; plans to give me a future and a hope.
