HAPPY ODAIBA MEMORIAL DAY - AUGUST 1ST 2025! ❤️

Even though the day is as good as over, I still managed to finish the fourth piece in the doll-holding collection. 🩷🧡💜

I really do miss Sora, she's been getting the shortest end of the stick for the longest time and I really crave for her to find happiness again. Odaiba Memorial day might be the best opportunity to mend old wounds - for her as well as for me, by overcoming an art block that lasted over two months by completing Team Light's supremacy.

So, I just learned that apparently that August 1st is not only Odaiba Memorial Day, but also Yaoi Day.

So I think we should celebrate some of the gayest people in Digimon.

Digimon Beatbreak Overview

Toei and Bandai are being good to us as a fandom, giving us more information on Digimon Beatbreak, as well as the first trailer!

Story

"e-Pulse," which is generated by human thoughts and emotions, was used as the energy sourcefor the AI support device "Sapotama." From the shadows of this remarkable development, terrifying monsters appear. Digimon are living beings that evolve by consuming e-Pulse. Tomoro Tenma is drawn into an extraordinary experience after meeting Gekkomon, who suddenly appears from his Sapotama. While living together with Kyo Sawashiro and other members of the bounty hunting team "Golden Dawn," Tomoro renews his resolve. What new future will be forged by humans and Digimon?

We also got the Staff announcement, something that always is very interesting to me.

Let's go through the positions one by one.

Series Director is the director who is responsible for the series as a whole, though not necessarily every single episode. Miyamoto Hiroaki is an interesting one. While he has been active in the industry for a long while, he has never done show direction before. So this is going to be interesting.

Series Composition is the position that in English media usually is called "Showrunner", so the main writer/head writer. And Yamaguchi Ryota is the first returning writer in the history of Digimon, given that he has written Digimon Savers back in 2006. So that is interesting.

I think design is something I do not need to explain. Kojima never did character design before, but he did a lot of Key Animation on different seasons of PreCure. And of course we all know Watanabe Kenji.

Asanuma Akihiro has been working on Digimon Animation since Tamers and was responsible for the character design both in Applimon and Ghost Game.

The Art Director is the person responsible to make sure that the animation follows certain guidelines and stays on model, unless for specific reasons. Jin Ayaka is very, very new to the industry with only one other credit to their name so far: Tousouchuu: Great Mission.

Yokoyama Sayoko meanwhile is someone who has done this job - Color Designer (reponsible to make sure that colors line up) - for pretty much as long as I can think. She has done this job for Mai-HiME, for the newest One Piece movie, for several Gundam shows and more.

CG Directors are the directors for any CG sequences (of which Digimon tends to have a few) though I cannot find any prior credits for Ozone.

Compositing Director usually also gets called "Director of Photography". That person is responsible for merging backgrounds, animation and all. Ishiyama is fairly new to the industry, but also did several projects before.

The headcredit for Editing is the person responsible for all scenes properly getting edited together. Nishimura has been active in the industry since the early 2010s. He worked - among others - on Dragonball Super and Yu-Gi-Oh Sevens.

Finally, the Music for this is composed by Okehazama Alisa, who is also fairly young and has been active for not that long. But you might know her for her work composing the soundtrack of Jujutsu Kaisen.

And yes, sorry for going through the list so exhaustively, but I just care a lot about the art of animation - and due to that I just... would love for people to appreciate the people who do it!

Characters

Like always, we get only so much from the previews of the characters. It is notable that this is definitely the most diverse group in terms of age that we ever got in Digimon with the characters ranging from 10 (Makoto) to 22 (Kyo). And given that Murasamemon is already Perfect Level (the level names seem to be the English ones) I am going to assume that he and Kyo have been partnered for a good bit longer than the others. Reina also seems to be a more active female characters, though her description really makes me think: "Female Taiki," given that she tends to overexhaust herself.

But we will see.

Some Observations

Something I very much notice here is the fact that this time around the show does not seem to be set at a specific real world place like the other seasons. In the trailer we see "Hikarigahama" city as a name for the setting, but as far as I am aware this is not a real place.

We also see this landmark in the trailer - which probably is going to be connected to the Saitama, and very much is not a real thing that exists right now.

We also have this general view of the city scape which definitely does not look like a real place, though it is obviously also... we see those pixel effects above the houses which makes me wonder if somehow this is already a digital world? (Does this take place in the bloody matrix?)

When Gekkomon appears, he rapidly evolves from Baby I stage to Child stage. Which probably also has to do with Tomoro's emotional energy. (The entire e-Pulse thing does scream "DigiSoul, though, doesn't it? Especially knowing who is writing.)

And quite noticably: first thing Gekkomon does is to try and eat Tomoro. It seems to me that they are going to at least keep some of the horror vibes from Ghost Game, eh?

Something I also find interesting is the scene of Tomoro running through what appears to be some abandoned shopping street. Because... well, it is quite noticable how run down and ruined this is. That does say possibly something about the state of the world.

Also: We also see Gekkomon attack this other Digimon. I do wonder if he is defending Tomoro here, of if this is actually the child or adult form of Murasamemon defending Tomoro from Gekkomon.

Also: All the Saitama make me think off is... "What if Smartphone, but also Shugo Chara?" xD

But yeah, that is mostly what we got so far.

Let's look forward to see what else will come up!

Odaiba Day 2025 Lead-Up Part 5/13 - Hikari Yagami

Hi, I'm Starmah, or you can call me Aly. I'm an aroace adult somehow in my thirties. Digimon is one of my oldest fandoms, and I got into it again shortly after Odaiba Day last year! A surplus of posts in celebration reached my dash and infected me.

My ADHD hyperfixating brain is very fickle, but I'm still here after a year. Digimon is one of those things in the back of my mind even if I don't actively think about it for ages. It doesn't take much to poke it back into action.

I like to enjoy my own vibes and just see if people are cool with what I offer instead of actively reaching out and joining others. I do like talking to people but social anxiety has gotten worse through pandemic and unemployment. I enjoy being creative when I can and trying to allow my mind to have fun with tangents and ideas that may not develop to anything. Some Digimon stuff from last year that didn't finish as of now is over novel length, which is the most I've written in a short time in ages. I don't know if I will ever finish the ideas or make them public, but going along with them for my sake and getting out of writer's block is great. It's been months since I've touched them but I'm happy for how it helped me. Not something to complete or share necessarily but just something to do.

I'm currently on semi-hiatus from Tumblr, yet could not avoid getting something done for today since it was what got me back into the fandom last year.

Digimon Adventure 02 Rewatch Announcement

With the Rewatch of Digimon Adventure finished, it is time to announce the starting date for the 02 Rewatch. Given that people (including me) struggle to keep up with the current rhythm I decided to make hiatus breaks of two to three weeks between the seasons. There is also going to be a hiatus in the middle of each season - depending on where the plot allows for it. (The 02 break is gonna be after the Digimon Kaizer is defeated!)

So, with the Hiatus and all, the 02 Rewatch is going to Start on August 4th!

For those who did not participate so far: The rewatch goes like this. We have a "schedule" for the episodes, though you can watch on your own speed. This account, as well as the Discord Community will have the episode discussion threads, where you can share your thoughts on each episode! For those episodes that are legally available somewhere there are links shared.

On the Saturday before that we will do the Community Watchparty of the second Digimon Adventure movie, which will happen together on the Discord Server! :)
