Les Jours d’été Prompts
Likes: Angst, Emotional vulnerability (crying strongly encouraged), Hurt/comfort, Dom/sub (mostly a fan of sub!Javert) and BDSM, Dub-con/Non-con (especially if it involves mentally breaking the victim), Redemption arcs, Loyalty and betrayal, Enemy hate!sex Dislikes: AUs that take place outside the scope of canon (coffee shop, college, etc), Excessive OOC sap, Aro/Ace/Trans interpretations of the characters, A/B/O verse, UST that never gets resolved, Major character death without warning Do Not Want: Mpreg, Bestiality, Furries, Gore, Vore, Ass-to-mouth, Underage sex, any kinks involving shit or vomit, “Rocks fall and everyone dies” endings, Explicit sexual violence against women (you can allude to it, I just don’t want an NC-17 scene) Les Miserables Specific: Javert is my favorite character, and my preferred version is Philip Quast’s performance in the Tenth Anniversary Concert. He perfectly balances the harsh and unyielding policeman with the lost and vulnerable soul gazing into the abyss right before his suicide. I like stories that explore Javert’s childhood, the discrimination he suffers as an outsider, case fic where he gets to be a badass, and post-Seine AUs in which he survives and goes on a journey of redemption. I am also very partial to Javert’s long, flowing Disney princess tresses, and anything that involves him tied up in a martingale or getting choked out.
Jean Valjean/Javert I enjoy post-Seine AUs where Valjean prevents Javert from committing suicide, and the two go from being enemies to friends to lovers, with Javert becoming a better man in the process. I also have a guilty love for Madeleine-era identity porn, especially the famous Punish Me M. le Maire scene. Some specific ideas:
An unscrupulous police informer discovers Javert’s relationship with Valjean and uses it as blackmail material.
In a post-Seine AU, someone from person A’s past comes back to haunt him, driving a wedge in his relationship with person B. Could be a fellow prisoner of Valjean’s at Toulon, or a criminal who knows something shameful about Javert’s childhood in the gutter.
Javert has a sexually submissive streak and wants “Jean le Cric” to force him to his knees. Valjean would rather leave that history buried.
Crowe!Javert has an epic puppy dog crush on M. Madeleine. When Madeleine’s life is threatened, he rushes to the rescue. Commence H/C. Bonus points for identity angst on Valjean’s part.
Thenardier and Patron-Minette capture and torture the spy, Javert. Knowing his history of antagonism with Valjean, they make a proposal to the latter: Javert’s life in exchange for the location of Valjean’s fortune. Valjean has to play along in order to get Javert to safety.
Genderswap: fem!Valjean is sent to prison after she injures or kills a would-be rapist in self-defense. She escapes and disguises herself as a man, M. Madeleine, and becomes mayor. What happens when Javert finds out her identity? How does her relationship with Fantine change given her experience?
Genderswap: fem!Javert escaped a life of poverty and prostitution by disguising herself as a man and joining the police force. M. Madeleine discovers her secret at the same time Javert finds out he is the criminal, Jean Valjean.
Any and all Punish Me M. le Maire stories involving Javert bent over the mayor’s desk and having his ass used in creative ways. Also happy to see Javert doing penance on his knees (forced blowjobs, face-fucking, coming on face). Have at it with the kinks.
M. Chabouillet/Javert I enjoy D/s scenarios with Dom!Chabouillet and sub!Javert, which explore Javert’s religious devotion to authority and conflicted feelings over his desire to be hurt, humiliated, and sexually degraded. Some specific ideas:
How did Chabouillet become Javert’s patron? What drew him to Javert, and how did he mold Javert into the upright officer that we know?
Javert survives his fall into the Seine. Chabouillet finds out his protege attempted suicide and is less than pleased.
Possessive Chabouillet thinks Javert is a little too obsessed with this Jean Valjean character, so he hunts the ex-convict down himself. What happens during the Chabouillet/Javert/Valjean confrontation?
H/C in which Javert is reckless during a mission and gets kidnapped or shot (his magical bullet-stopping powers didn’t work this time).
Chabouillet rewards Javert for a job well done bringing down Patron-Minette by pampering him like a prize pet.
Dub-con in which Chabouillet orders Javert to sexually service someone (e.g., Gisquet) whom Javert dislikes. Give me all the emotional manipulation and abuse.
In order to infiltrate a dangerous gang, person A must pretend to betray person B, but person B thinks this betrayal is real. Could be Javert selling out his patron’s secrets under duress, or Chabouillet throwing his protege to the wolves to be tortured and killed. Should have a happy ending where person B learns the truth, the baddies are defeated, and Chabouillet/Javert reconcile.
Any and all Punish Me M. le Secretaire stories involving spanking, caning, whipping, collars, blindfolds, choking, bondage, forced orgasms (until he comes dry), and anal toys. Go wild with the kinks.
M. le Authority Figure/Javert/Jean Valjean Javert’s devotion to authority was exploited by his superiors in a string of dub-con D/s relationships. In a post-Seine AU, he and Valjean become romantically involved, but Javert has no model for a healthy relationship and doesn’t recognize that what his superiors did was abuse. How do our two French virgins work things out?

Title: The Price of Patronage Rating: NC-17 for explicit sexual situations Fandom: Les Miserables (Victor Hugo) Pairing: Chabouillet/Javert Summary: In Paris, Javert mistakenly denounces a state official, M. Madeleine, for being the escaped convict Jean Valjean, inciting the wrath of his superiors. M. Chabouillet protects Javert from the Prefect’s retribution, but has plans for punishment of his own. Author’s Note: For @esteliel’s PBAM prompt: Javert/Chabouillet with caning, shame, and a bonus side dish of slapping. This was supposed to be a short fill, but Javert’s masochism caused it to balloon into quite the monster. I apologize in advance for writing Chabouillet so cruel; I didn’t intend him to be such a jealous prick, however, my muse decided caning wasn’t enough punishment.

As he slowly picks up the pieces, a new case arrives at the precinct that threatens to expose his long-kept secrets to the world. [Les Miserables] Drowning in Shallow Waters - Story Pitch
I’m trying something new for long, multi-part fanfiction. Following Robert McKee’s advice in Story, I plotted out the entire story arc on notecards in Scrivener and wrote a 3-4 page pitch that captures the essence of the narrative. This gives me a bird’s eye view so I can identify plot holes, logical fallacies, pacing issues, etc early on, before I dedicate a bunch of time to a first draft.
I’d like to get some feedback from fans. Drop me a message/chat in tumblr with your gut reaction and any problems you see.
This fic is in the Les Miserables fandom and focuses on Javert. I blend characterization from the brick, musical, and 2012 film. My personal fanon is that Javert is half-Romani on his mother’s side, and that he’s secretly suffered from depression most of his life. The fic takes place in an AU where Valjean saves Javert from killing himself at the Seine and teaches him to become a better man. Eventually, they turn into lovers, and the story begins many years (like 10-15 years) post-brick, with Valjean/Javert in an established relationship and on good terms with Marius/Cosette’s family.
It is Christmas Eve, and Valjean and Javert are getting dressed for dinner with Marius, Cosette, and their two young children. Although Valjean is ill and Javert is in one of his melancholy moods, the two are loving and affectionate with each other, having shared over a decade of intimacy since the day Valjean rescued Javert from the Seine. When Cosette’s family arrives, they read a storybook to the children before sitting down to dine, then take the carriage to midnight mass. After the service, Valjean tells the rest of them to go on ahead, as he plans to check on the construction of a school for the poor, which he recently endowed. Cut to later that night near the slums of a Romani camp, where a young couple, Saban and Femi, are huddled over a fire. They are hungry and cold, but unable to find work due to their race. Saban drapes his threadbare jacket over Femi and promises her he will be back with food. He slips through the alleyways and spots Valjean, dressed in his handsome coat, giving alms to the fortuneteller Lucia, and robs him. Meanwhile, Javert has dozed off waiting for Valjean back at Rue Plumet. Upon Valjean’s return late that night, he is shocked to find the latter shivering without his purse, hat, or coat. Valjean insists he gave them willingly to a man who needed the clothes more than him, but Javert is furious that Valjean would be so careless with his poor health. Their argument is cut short when Valjean faints. Javert immediately calls a doctor, but over the next few days, Valjean’s health declines rapidly from pneumonic fever. He dies on the morning of the New Year and is buried beneath his beloved oak tree in his garden.
Marius is the executor of Valjean’s will, which asks that all his possessions be donated to charity. He hands Javert a letter containing Valjean’s last request of his lover, but Javert is in denial and refuses to read it. He sits down that night with the unopened letter, the two silver candlesticks, and a locked box containing his sidearm, his thoughts slowly sliding toward suicide. After an internal struggle, Javert curls up the letter and tucks it into one candlestick, intent on getting drunk to dull the pain. He does not remember collapsing on the sofa. In the pitch dark, he is awakened by the sound of Saban rummaging through the house. A fight ensues, and just as Javert has the upper hand, he is surprised by Femi, who knocks him out with a candlestick - the same one containing Valjean’s letter. The two thieves escape.
The next day, Cosette finds Javert bleeding and distraught as he realizes the letter is gone. He refuses a doctor and forbids her to report the theft to the police, insisting he can handle it alone. His informants on the black market tell him a Romani couple tried to fence a silver candlestick that morning. On his way to the Romani camp, he encounters Lucia, who offers to tell his fortune, but Javert brusquely declines. Javert finds Saban in a thieves’ den, asking for a mysterious L’Inquisiteur, and recognizes him by Valjean’s coat. He chases the thief down, beats him, and interrogates him. Saban admits he was ordered to rob Rue Plumet, and that it is one of many rich houses targeted by a gang that runs a smuggling operation in the area. Before Javert can extract anymore information, he is interrupted by several policemen led by Theodore Defrain. Theodore is an arrogant young inspector under the patronage of Francois Chabouillet, the current Prefect of Police and Javert’s old patron. He was given Javert’s post after Javert was put on leave following a serious gunshot injury. Brushing aside Javert’s protests, Theodore takes Saban back to the station house, where he and Javert argue over who gets to interrogate the thief. Commissioner Alexis Gauthier, one of Javert’s old mentees and allies in the force, suggests that Javert speak to Chabouillet directly if he wants in on the investigation.
Back at Rue Plumet, Javert is furious to find servants boxing up Valjean’s possessions when he explicitly forbid anyone to touch them. Cosette calms him down and asks Javert to sort through Valjean’s personal items for donation. She says that in Valjean’s final letter to her, he requested Cosette watch over Javert and not let him fall into melancholy. Still numb with grief, Javert tells Cosette a story about a street urchin and his mongrel dog, who were each other’s only friends. One day, the boy was killed in a tragic encounter with a criminal. The dog, so distressed by its master’s death, leaped into the river and drowned itself in the shallow waters just a few meters from land. It is with this memory that Javert, alone that night, deliberately presses the straight razor to his throat while he is shaving until blood wells. The next day, Javert asks Chabouillet to put him back on field duty and give him investigative power in the Romani case, which Theodore is handling. Chabouillet refuses at first, but after some pleading, he reluctantly allows Javert to return to the field as a police spy, although with limited power and barred from interfering in Theodore’s investigation. Alexis is sympathetic to Javert’s plight and suggests he borrow one of the junior officers, Nicolas Barreau, to help in his investigation.
Javert and Nicolas follow Theodore’s officers to the Romani camp, where they are rounding up people for minor offenses to appease the racist Parisians. Javert encounters Femi, who is frantic over Saban’s disappearance. She pleads with Nicolas to help her find her husband, but Nicolas backhands her, and Javert intervenes. Femi, recognizing Javert as the man she and Saban robbed, pales and runs away, but not before dropping a note with the seal of Pauvres Royales. It is the same gang Javert faced the night he received his gunshot injury. Back at Rue Plumet, Javert is forced to admit to Marius and Cosette that Valjean’s letter was stolen with the candlestick, and he never read what was on it. Against their protests, he moves to his old apartment and prepares for the raid that night, lingering on his sidearm as he struggles to repress his suicidal anxiety. He goes over the plan to ambush Pauvres Royales with Nicolas and a few other policemen. Javert spies on the gang and spots Femi with the stolen wares, asking to meet L’Inquisiteur, who he learns is the mastermind behind the smuggling operation. While his officers arrest the criminals, Javert tails Femi to a secluded corner of the slums, where he glimpses a shadowy figure. Before he can pounce, Nicolas appears behind him and puts a gun to his head. He says Javert has meddled enough. Just then, the moonlight reflects the silver candlestick, revealing them to Femi and L’Inquisiteur. In the ensuing struggle, Nicolas shoots Femi, Javert wrestles with Nicolas and accidentally sets the gun off, killing Nicolas, while L’Inquisiteur escapes with the stolen goods. Torn between chasing Valjean’s letter and aiding the bleeding Femi, Javert chooses to rescue the woman.
Javert brings Femi back to his apartment and calls for the Pontmercy family doctor. From Femi’s disjointed rambling, he pieces together that L’Inquisiteur is a corrupt police officer within the Paris precinct. Saban worked for him in exchange for vague promises of protection, despite Femi’s protests. That night at Rue Plumet, Femi followed Saban to stop him and only struck Javert in defense of her husband. Taking the silver candlestick was an unfortunate accident. Guilt-ridden, Javert falls into an exhausted sleep by her bedside. He dreams of Fantine pleading with him for mercy and how he denied her all those years ago. Once again, he is tied up at the barricades, but instead of freeing him this time, Valjean as Madeleine avenges Fantine’s death by slashing Javert’s throat. Cut to a shot of L’Inquisiteur finding the letter in the candlestick and chuckling evilly as he reads it.
Upon waking, Javert reports to the prefect regarding the corruption he discovered, but finds Chabouillet already in a meeting with Alexis and Theodore regarding Nicolas’s death. Evidence of criminal dealings was discovered on Nicolas’s body. They argue over whose responsibility it was, with Theodore blaming Javert for the botched operation, Javert insisting that there is a conspiracy in the Paris precinct, and Alexis suggesting Nicolas is a single bad apple. Chabouillet says he will have internal affairs investigate the matter and dismisses them. Frustrated, Javert seeks out Saban in the city jail, but discovers the man has already been shipped off to prison. With his last lead exhausted, Javert trudges back to his apartment. He encounters Lucia again, who offers to pay him in exchange for telling his fortune. Javert draws the tarot cards the Lovers (past), Star reversed (present), and Nameless Arcanum/Death (future). Lucia hands him a coin - the same one Valjean gave her. Mired in suicidal thoughts, Javert prays at mass that evening and encounters Cosette, who pleads with him to return home with her. Javert refuses, and when she becomes insistent, he bursts out that Cosette should turn him away, because it was Javert who caused her mother’s death and chased Valjean and her all those years. Shocked, Cosette lets him go.
Back at his apartment, Javert finds that Femi is gone. The porter says she was taken a few minutes ago by a man matching Saban’s description. He follows the lead to the docks, where Saban and Femi argue and split up. Javert accosts Femi, who begs him to stop Saban from getting killed. He tails Saban to a hidden cove used by smugglers to load stolen goods onto a boat. Seeing the silver candlestick in his hand, Javert runs after the thief, but in the ensuing chase, Saban drops the candlestick in the rapids of the Seine. Javert lunges for it and loses both Saban and the candlestick. Thinking he will never read Valjean’s last words, he sinks to his knees in despair. Javert prepares to throw himself over the edge of the bridge, but is held back by Valjean’s bright star overhead. He pulls out his pistol instead and puts the muzzle in his mouth, recalling how he got the gunshot injury on his shoulder. It was not during an altercation with Pauvres Royales, as everyone believes, but afterward, when Javert tried to kill himself. Valjean wrestled with him for the gun, and it went off by accident. During Javert’s recovery, Valjean made Javert swear on the cross never to attempt suicide again. That promise is all Javert has left now, and he cannot bring himself to abandon it, although he desperately wants to die. As he battles with anguish, Javert does not notice a dark figure approach from behind and knock him out.
He wakes to find himself tied up in the smuggler’s cove. His captor is none other than Alexis Gauthier, our mysterious L’Inquisiteur. It was Alexis who freed Saban and used him as bait to lure Javert into an ambush. Saban says he fulfilled his side of the bargain and asks Alexis to help his people, but Alexis shoots him in the head. He explains that he had been suspicious of Javert’s newfound wealth (which was actually Valjean’s) and suspected Javert may be involved in activities with the gangs, cutting into his turf. He had Saban raid Rue Plumet for clues. Little did he expect to find the truth! Now, Alexis pulls out Valjean’s letter and begins to read it, revealing all of Javert’s dark secrets - his struggle with suicidal depression, love affair with a convict, and the fraud he committed to protect Valjean’s identity. It also mentions a chest Valjean buried for Javert in the orchard behind Rue Plumet, which Alexis believes contains bribe money. He mocks Javert for falling so far from the honest, upright officer who once mentored him. Alexis blackmails Javert into writing a suicide note admitting sole fault in abetting Valjean’s fraud, saying he will use Valjean’s letter to ruin the Pontmercy family otherwise. Then, he has his thugs toss Javert into the shallow waters of the Seine. At first, Javert does not struggle, relieved that he can finally die without committing the sinful act himself. However, as his life flashes before his eyes, he realizes he still has much to live for - that his promise to Valjean was to continue seeking love, peace, and happiness - and he cannot abandon Cosette’s family. Fate aids him, for he finds Valjean’s coin in his pocket (the one Lucia gave him) and uses it to cut his bonds.
Marius, Femi, and their allies arrive to help Javert fight off Alexis’s remaining goons. Javert yells at them to contact Chabouillet and dashes for Rue Plumet, where he discovers Cosette in hiding; she tells him Alexis went out back with two armed men. He finds Alexis struggling to break the combination lock on the chest. The ensuing fight culminates with Alexis and Javert in a standoff, guns pointed at each other. Javert goads Alexis to go ahead and shoot, his gun will misfire - and miraculously, it does. Then, Javert knocks Alexis out and retrieves Valjean’s letter from his pocket. At that moment, Chabouillet, Theodore, and Marius arrive with a dozen police officers, who quickly arrest the criminals. Cut to a few days later in Chabouillet’s office. The prefect praises Javert for discovering Alexis’s corruption and offers him his old post back, but Javert replies he is resigning from the force. He finds Femi in the Romani camp mourning Saban’s death over a small grave and gives her the other silver candlestick, as well as coin and an offer of employment at Valjean’s school. She declines and says she cannot leave her people, who plan to move on in a few days. However, Femi admits she would like to learn how to read, and Javert offers to teach her at the new classroom.
Returning to Rue Plumet, Javert sits down with Cosette in front of Valjean’s chest. He unlocks it with the combination 24601. Inside are a few gardening tools and a bag of apple seeds. A note in Valjean’s handwriting asks Javert to tend these fruits of his love with Cosette. Javert realizes that Valjean meant his gift to bring Javert and Cosette together after his death. He is finally able to open up about his grief. Quietly, Javert confesses to Cosette that the night he fell into the Seine was no accident. He had intended to die in the rapids, and it was only divine will that Valjean intervened. Indeed, he attempted suicide multiple times over the years - Javert touches his wrist, shoulder, and throat to show where - and it was Valjean who pulled him back from the precipice each time. Cosette embraces him, and Javert is finally able to weep upon her breast, sobbing that he misses Valjean terribly.
