thought this was interesting background: from the patreon post, this a) was 18 months in the making and b) originally started as a dive into feminist debates on sex and power (and was reframed around twilight due to concerns about family-friendliness on youtube)

found this reddit quote insightful too -

there's been enough said about the validity of romance and the marginalisation of it as ~women's stuff~ and especially on this platform that's preaching to the choir a bit so i won't rehash that; also not going to break down the DHSM construction other than to say i liked it and no disagreement from me w/ the main message that it's society--and the centuries of gendered, racial, economic imbalances--that need to be relooked at rather than expecting human desire to follow rational/dictated rules

the quote that comes to mind for me is the line:

i write a lot of sex! it's never about sex. absolutely cool w/ me if anyone gets turned on reading what i write, but to me it's about power and control and vulnerability and connection. and what i love--really treasure--about slash fanfiction is that there's a certain level of unspoken community understanding that this is generally the case.

fascinated by the central idea in the video of desire being violent. while idqk if i necessarily connect to the point of it being about death of identity, it nonetheless rings so fundamentally true to me: that intimacy is violating. hence all the writing circling around the idea that sex, as the highest, most physical form of intimacy, is inseparable and un-entanglable from literal violence and violation

idk. not quite sure what i'm trying to say here. just that the desire for intimacy, to be seen, to be connected with, to be touched, is horrifying. ahhhh the power fantasy of being known without being vulnerable. to be safe and yet fully understood
