I don’t think the ‘why doesn’t he make his companion immortal’ is a new thing?
He sees immortality as BAD. Like BAD BAD baD as beans bad. It’s not living forever, it’s watching everyone else die. You ‘lose the ability’ to die.
When he makes ashildr immortal, he sees is as something /selfish/ that he did because he was over emotional, because he was sick of losing everyone.
He would see making Clara immortal as a horrible, selfish act- something that he would never inflict on her because HE CARES SO MUCH
Of course there’ve got to be ways out there to save his companions, to keep them with him forever, but by doing so, he would be taking away their free will, he would be perverting the laws of life and death.
There’s no way he’d try keep Clara alive forever. No way. Even if she tried to insist I bet he would refuse point blank.
Sure, of course he wants her to stay with him forever, sure, of course her leaving is going to completely break him
But he would not turn her into him- he WOULD NOT let her endure what he’s had to just because he wants her by his side
