(my cozy room in Rio when it rains ๐)
๐๏ธ August 10th, 2025 โข Day 3 of Documenting My Life โ๏ธ
August has been so wonderful so far! Truly a blessing. Every issue that arose came with its own wonderful resolution ๐ฎโ๐จ
โ๏ธ I needed to buy a flight ticket from Rio to Paris, but couldn't find anything within my budget. I took matters into my own hands and did more research. As a result, I created my own little adventure at an affordable price! ๐
๐ฝ At the end of the month, I'll be flying to Paris, passing through New York, and spending a full day of exploration there! A matter that had initially given me so much anxiety became an exciting upcoming trip ๐
๐ญ The following week, my MacBook was overheating... I took it to the Apple Store and learned the bad news that my battery was dying. I was frightened by the price they asked to replace it ๐จ (Brazil is the most expensive country in the world for anything Apple-related) ๐ป But here's the good news: when I mentioned my upcoming long layover in New York, the staff immediately recommended that I bring my old computer to an Apple Store there. They estimated I could get around $250 discount on a new computer! And the US is the place with the cheapest MacBook computers! Ah, such a relief! ๐ฎโ๐จ
(some delicious things I got to eat in very good company)
๐ฅ: I've been binge-watching all three seasons of The Gilded Age - I am OBSESSED.
Highlights of the week
๐ Feeling so lucky and so grateful for everything that went right instead of wrong this week
๐ The doorman/caretaker of my Airbnb building is so kind! I adore greeting him every day when I go to the gym. He's so thoughtful, always checking on me and the other residents.
๐ I got to make so many new friends in Rio! I felt like I had a community here already, and it's only getting stronger ๐ฅฐ
Downside of the week
I chipped my front teeth on a plate ๐ค It's not too bad, probably no one will notice, but I CAN see it ๐ฅฒ It's strange to smile at the mirror and not recognize what I see... Well, I have to remind myself that it could have been worse! I'm lucky it was just two tiny specks at the bottom of my tooth. Passing the August luck to everyone who needs it more ๐

๐๏ธ July 30th, 2025 โข Day 2 of Documenting My Life โ๏ธ
๐๏ธ I spent the weekend in Petrรณpolis, up in the mountains of Rio de Janeiro ๐ง๐ท It was a nice change of scenery! My friends have a country house that they love to open to friends and family. It felt like a cute English cottage, except in the Brazilian countryside!
๐ฉ๐ฝโโค๏ธโ๐ฉ๐ป We were eight friends, spending all our time cooking, eating, baking, chatting, lazing in the sun, playing board games, reading, watching music videos on TV... It was a lot of fun โบ๏ธ
๐ Trying to finish The Dispossessed by Ursula Leguin. No idea why, but I had a tough time with the original English version, so I switched to the French translation. It's going better now, but I do feel guilty for not reading the original... Although I'm also guilty of reading French authors in English, does that cancel the sin?
"If a book were written all in numbers, it would be true. It would be just. Nothing said in words ever came out quite even." โ The Dispossessed by Ursula Leguin
๐ฅ: obsessed with Hasan Piker โ๏ธ and his podcast with QT, Marche, Will, and Austin.
Highlights of the week
๐ getting to spend some time in nature
๐ back volunteering! I am teaching four classes for the NGO this week - yay!
๐ used a public laundromat (REALLY public, not a shared-in-a-building-public type, a real one!) and that wasn't as bad as I thought it would be... yay?

๐๏ธ July 23rd, 2025 โข Day 1 of Documenting My Life โ๏ธ Today, I edited and posted Chapters 19 and 20 of the new book project I'm working on. More people are showing up every week in the comments to support my work. That's encouraging! ๐ซถ ๐ฌ Just when I perfected my Low Cal Marshmallow recipe... I moved apartment, and the current one doesn't have an electric whisk ๐ฅบ I can't make a big batch of these anymore, and I'm unreasonably upset about it. Here's the recipe I kinda followed and the video that inspired me to make them in the first place โ try to bake them if you can! Only 4 ingredients and 150 calories. ๐ Read I Who Have Never Known Men, by Jacqueline Harpman. The first 100 pages were challenging, but I flew through the last 100. The writing was so simple, and yet, the images of that dystopian world were so vivid in my mind. 10/10.
โThe limits of my language are the limits of my mind. All I know is what I have words for.โย โ Ludwig Wittgenstein
๐ฅ: weekly watching And Just Like That and The Summer I Turned Pretty. I'm hoping to find an interesting Asian drama, but no luck so far!
Highlights of my week ๐ planning my upcoming solo trip in China - so excited!
๐ joining a cool weekly board games group
๐ finishing a book Thank you @academicazura for inspiring me to start documenting ๐
