There have been a lot of new faces around here lately so I thought I’d introduce myself again. ⠀ ⠀ I’m Alaina 👋 and here are 10 random facts about me in no particular order.⠀ ⠀ 1. I’m a mother of two currently living in the UK countryside.⠀ 2. I was born and raised in Texas, USA 🇺🇸 3. I’m married to a Dane 🇩🇰 and lived in Denmark for nearly a decade. ⠀ 4. I tend to cycle through artistic passions (obsessions?) which I share here. ⠀ 5. My current obsessions include alcohol ink and pressed flowers. ⠀ 6. I like to mix digital and real life art with Photoshop and my iPad Pro.⠀ 7. I make and sell brushes for the iPad app called Procreate. ⠀ 8. I love houseplants and grow mine “hydroponically” (in water with clay pebbles).⠀ 9. I can’t stop buying @lucyandyak dungarees.⠀ 10. Summer is coming to a close in the U.K. and the kids are back in school. This time of year always feels exciting and full of possibility to me. ⠀ ⠀⠀ After my first full week of work days in 2 months, I’m feeling on top of things again. A while back I posted about wanting to hire an assistant and I finally did it yesterday! Although it’s only a few hours a week, the mental clutter is already clearing. Today I tidied 3 months off my desk in preparation for new creative projects, and spent some time jumping on the trampoline with the kids (ow 🥴). Just released my new product on @creativemarket - Herbarium vol. 2: Wild Spring.⁠ ⠀⁠ This is a collection of 196 pressed wildflowers, leaves and ferns in colors, as separate images with a transparent background, along with patterns and bouquets made from them. ⁠ ⠀⁠ On another note, I've only just learned how to spell "bouquets" 🤣⁠ ⠀⁠ As always this has been a labor of love! And though my shoulders ache from hunching over the computer and I'm ready for a break after working on this since 5am, I am so excited and happy about this collection because it's been so much fun collecting and pressing flowers and playing with them in Photoshop. I made this monogram for my Cherry Blossoms graphics set a few weeks ago. Confession: sometimes I get really overwhelmed by all the stuff I want to do. And that’s just work stuff, not counting family stuff and the all important 😓 ⠀ As a result I’ve been seriously considering hiring a virtual assistant. This is a huge and scary step for me, as I’ve always been kind of a hermit who works alone. I know I have a lot of stuff I want to do but I’m not sure what I can delegate or whether I can afford it. This week I’ve been marveling at what a gift it is that we have the opportunity to find solutions for even the most obscure problems, from people across the globe who we have never met. ⠀ ⠀⠀ What inspired this marveling? Well I’ve been suffering from a chronic back problem - not serious but really inconvenient and annoying. This week I found a YouTube video with a super simple exercise that pretty much solved the problem instantly, and I feel like a whole new person. I find it amazing that someone out there not only knew the perfect solution for a very specific, seemingly unsolvable problem, but also that they were willing to share it.
