concept: let’s go to bed at 9pm instead of 3am. let’s drink more water for our bodily health and less coffee for the aesthetic. let’s not skip breakfast because it’s worth running a little behind even if it’s just some fruit or cereal. let’s go socialize even if we’re kinda nervous. let’s love ourselves when we feel down, because flaws are not the end of the world. let’s work hard but take breaks in between instead of procrastinating and then rushing. let’s ignore what people who don’t know us have to say about us behind our backs. let’s be kind to each other because we’re all trying here. let’s hype up being mentally healthy rather than being perfect. let’s live our lives like we want to.
just a thought.

Tip if you live with room mates or parents:
Make your bedroom your SANCTUARY. Make a place you want to go to at the end of the day to relax, having a dirty room is so stressful. And I get it, you sit there and stare at it, but don’t tackle the clutter because it’s overwhelming. My advice, just start somewhere. Even if it takes you a few days. GET RID OF STUFF YOU DON’T NEED. Minimize your belongings. (Read DO LESS by Rachel Jonat. It has seriously changed my view on organization and clutter and has opened my habits and my mind to minimalism) I donate all of my unused but salvageable goods to thrift stores, because keeping them around to try and sell them can cause you to continue to be overwhelmed. Then, once you’re room is cleaned, let your bed be your bed. It’s for sleeping and lounging only. Try to get a good desk for homework and study. Then for decorations GET COZY SHEETS, CANDLES, FAIRY LIGHTS, drape tulle or tapestries along your walls or ceilings with push pins or command hooks. (Small Holes in walls are easy to fix by yourself btw, just do a quick google search.) Get a cozy comforter and comfy pillows. If you have an uncomfortable mattress, get a comfy foam mattress topper (@ target for $12) to help. Keep a little tray that you can lay your night time goodies on. Mine has a lavender pillow spray, a wide tooth comb, water bottle, Vaseline (I put it on my lips, lashes and brows before bed), and my notebook in case I have any wild ideas I want to jot down during the night. Keep a catch all try by your door. Lay your keys, sunglasses, watch, etc. there, so you know where they are when you’re rushing out the door. Also, have a place to put your purse. If you can’t put a hook on the wall to hang it up, get an over the door hook hanger from Walmart. (I love this thing because I keep my purse, school bag, fave Nike hat and umbrella there, and I always know where I put them. Use things like white boards, calendars, and pin boards to keep yourself organized, and design yourself a motivational vision board. ORGANIZE YOUR DRESSER. Keep socks, undies, bras, tights in the top drawer, then shirts, then pants. But if you can, hang up tips that you know will get wrinkles easy. Put a cozy rug in your room to keep your feet warm, but don’t forget to clean it, because if you have pets it will start to stink. Keep clutter off your bed and DIRTY CLOTHES IN THE HAMPER. I don’t care if you need 3 hampers, idc if you need 3 hampers for dirty clothes and 2 for clean clothes, just KEEP THEM OFF THE FLOOR. Play some chill music while you just hanging out. Light your candles, sit back, and enjoy your beautiful chill room.

books read in 2018 → the song of achilles by madeline miller
I will never leave him. It will be this, always, for as long as he will let me. If I had had words to speak such a thing, I would have. But there were none that seemed big enough for it, to hold that swelling truth. As if he had heard me, he reached for my hand. I did not need to look; his fingers were etched into my memory, slender and petal-veined, strong and quick and never wrong. “Patroclus,” he said. He was always better with words than I.

Seasonal Aesthetics
Winter: Cozy sweaters and a hot drink, the warmth of the mug warming your hands. Hoodies and fuzzy socks. Sitting by a window curled up with a good book, raindrops tapping on your window. Sitting at your desk, looking up from your notes only to see a blanket of snow. The sound of crackling fire. A sense of serenity.
Autumnn: The smell of an old book and the curving strokes of calligraphy. Orange everywhere and the crunch of leaves as rainboots step on them. Pumpkin spice lattes and candles and cakes make the best study snacks. Study dates with friends at an old library. The distant sound of rain…
Spring: Growth, beauty. Shyness blossoming into confidence, like a flower blooms. Studying at the park or sitting outside in a local cafe, surrounded by plants and watching the swingset slowly be moved by the soft wind. Flowers and petals between bullet journal pages.
Summer: A sigh of relief. Crawling into a bed with freshly washed sheets. Relaxation, holiday. The warmth of the sun on your skin, like a hug from home. A new bullet journal spread. Reading for pleasure. Laughter, happiness. The calming yet thrilling sound of the sea.

Back to school series #2 - HOW TO BE DISCIPLINED
Tumblr media
Welcome to this new post of my #backtoschoolseries!! if you haven’t already checked my last back-to-school related post you can do it here :D
The main topic of this post is discipline and how you can learn to manage it. When I was repeating my first med school year I learned how to discipline myself and it let me have a life apart from my studies. I used to wake up every day at 5.45 am for my morning workout, go to uni, come back home and study, cook my meals and go to bed early enough. I was also able to spend some free time with my friends and family during the weekends. This routine helped me manage my time, gave me a sense of accomplishment and made me go to bed almost every day knowing I had my sh*t together.
So how did I manage to develop this busy routine AND pass my first year? Continue to read!
Know the difference between motivation and self-discipline. Motivation is what will get you started, and is powered by your WHY. WHY do you want to go to college? WHY do you want to lose 10 pounds? WHY do you want to run a marathon? All of the answers to these questions are the main motor of your motivation. And motivation is the motor of discipline. Discipline is what will make you study every day so you’ll have those grades that will make you get into the college of your dreams. Discipline is what will make you wake up at 6 am every morning to go for a run. In other terms, discipline is what you need in order to keep going and stay on track. Discipline can’t exist without motivation and motivation is nothing without discipline.
We all practice discipline is some aspects of our life. For some of us, it will be waking up every morning at a reasonable hour in order to not be late for school. For others, it will be taking their medication every day in order to stay healthy. So stop telling yourself you don’t have any discipline or willpower because you won’t even be reading this post otherwise.
Discipline is a skill, and like every other skill, it has to be practiced every day. You have to put effort and focus in what you want to achieve and sometimes you’ll have to literally force yourself to get things done. Like I said in my previous post about motivation, no one really wants to wake up at 6 every morning to do a workout, especially if it’s dark and cold outside, and that your bed is begging you to stay.
Know yourself, and know what your weaknesses are. When you acknowledge these, you can find strategies to overcome them. If you want to go to bed earlier but you’re always on your phone till late at night, try to force yourself to put your phone in another room when you go to bed. If you’re always distracted by your Instagram notifications whilst studying, put your phone in airplane mode, or delete the app from it. If you just can’t control yourself over junk food, just don’t buy it. Remove every temptation so you’ll only focus on what’s important.
Plan your days ahead and plan your future. Again, ask yourself WHY you want to be disciplined, and WHAT the willpower you want to develop will bring into your life. The advantages of you being more disciplined have to overcome the reasons why you shouldn’t be, and that’s how motivation comes in the way.
Know that sometimes sh*t happens. That’s why you need a plan B. Having a backup plan doesn’t mean you don’t believe in your dreams, it just means that you are some kind of realistic about life and you know that it doesn’t always go as you wished it would. Having a plan B will make everything a bit more flexible and you’ll feel less anxious about your goals.
If you’re trying but you just can’t find any willpower in what you want to do, ask yourself if there’s something that’s preventing you from being disciplined. Are you sure you’re doing whatever you’re doing because you want it? Or are you doing it to please someone else? Are you scared of the outcome? Do you feel something is going wrong? It’s really important for you to have this little talk with yourself so you can focus on what you really want in your life because when your goals are genuine and clear, motivation comes by itself and discipline will follow.
Remember that it’s ok to screw up sometimes. You are not a robot and it is totally normal to have days where you don’t feel like it. Resting is also part of the process and will help you clear your vision and regain all the precious energy you need :) Forgive and take care of yourself!
I honestly think this post should be related to my post about motivation (if you haven’t read it already, I invite you to do it now!)
As usual, I hope these tips will be useful! I’m curious to know how do you guys practice discipline :)
(PS : sorry for my english)

Monthly practice:
1. Make a monthly review of study habits I find this really helps with understanding what’s working and what’s not
2. Invest in a good book A good book can nourish your mind and soul
3. Create a season based wardrobe capsule I got this idea from Lucy Moon, a favourite creator of mine, here’s her youtube channel essentially I try and have as minimal of a selection of clothes I could choose from each morning to avoid decision fatigue and focus on things that would put my time to better use while looking nice and feeling confident.
Weekly practice:
1. Room clean A clean room sets you up for a good workspace and less likely to lose things.
2. Practice an outlet whether it be music, drawing or sport, find a release. Focusing on just school will lead you to burnout
Daily Practice:
1. Assess why you’re stressed Especially if you have anxiety. Pin-pointing where your stress lies will help you both overcome this stress and resolve it by working on exactly what’s stressing you.
2. Practice mindfulness I don’t meditate. I practice mindfulness to draw me back to the moment so that I don’t get too caught up in everything that’s going on. I count 5 things that I hear, see and feel then I work my way down, counting 3 things i hear, see and feel, to 1.
3. Have a shower and prepare for bed 1 hour before you want to be asleep This means I can take my time and relax before bed and avoid screens to get great sleep.
4. Stick to simple, homemade full meals instead of snacks Fuelling your body is fuelling your brain. Honestly I function a lot better if I feed myself good, healthy meals. I understand the temptation to eat 80c noodles for breakfast, lunch and dinner but your grades, your brain and your body will thank you for taking some extra time on your food.
