i can already feel the latter half of 1000xresist irrevocably altering my approach to the narrative concept of the alien invader and its like. not even a story primarily about alien invasion? like for most of the story the occupants are just kinda the inciting incident that jumpstarts the actual plot. itd be so easy to relegate them to this unknowable force that never gets an explanation because it doesnt really need one, like area x in annihilation, but they choose to get into it anyway and add yet another ripple to a story already so deeply layered and its excellent.

and this is this teams only game?? they just. whipped this out right out the gate??? and i barely ever see anyone talk about it even though its revolutionized my entire conceptualization of the scifi genre like three times before im even finished with it????

I've gotta ask, what is 1000xresist? It's clearly got you ensnared and I'm a little curious about what's got you so interested

The short answer? The simple answer. Is that it’s a ~10 hour video game about a post apocalypse where only one human and her many clones remain and ostensibly, you are one of her clones tasked with viewing her memories along with talking to other clones (when you aren’t off doing your job).

I’d describe the gameplay as akin to what other games would have for their downtime sections. You really are walking around and talking to people.

The more interesting answer is that it is a game opens with you killing your mother, your god, the core of your self and your world. And it gives you the most baffling dialogue wheel as you put the knife through her back.

Red to blue, hair to hair, six to one.

Those words had meaning and I could not for the life of me parse what the fuck it was supposed to be and I was *hooked*.

It’s about the things we inherit and the things we leave behind and the consequences. I think that’s the broadest and vaguest I can be.

It’s about goodbyes and generational trauma and revolution and clinging to the past and love and assimilation and— okay it’s about a lot.

I think it’s worth going into blind, especially if you enjoy getting to have the experience of being intrigued and baffled by cryptic as hell dialogue and having (often kinda horrifying) realizations click together as you play. (Also, I do say ‘cryptic as hell’ as a full compliment. It’s very intentional and very much has a point and you will get to eventually understand what’s being said. It’s, imo, fucking incredibly written)

If! However you have triggers or just shit you don’t like interacting with in your media (entirely fair and valid!) the following list of triggers is pulled from the game’s FAQ: “1000xRESIST contains content not appropriate for all ages, including: Cursing and Crude Language, Generational Trauma, Acts of Violence and Terrorism, Disease Outbreak, Mention of Suicide, Mention of Animal Cruelty/Pet Death, Blood, Body Horror, Emotional Abuse, Bullying, Dead Bodies, Vomit, Drowning, Fire, Gore, Needles, Racism and General Mature Content.”

This all is either incredibly intriguing or it is the worst sales pitch ever and I really don’t know which. But hey! If this game sounds like- remotely interesting, highly recommend you try it out! It’s incredible. And if ya do try it out, I’d love to hear your thoughts! (None of my friends have played this and it’s a great tragedy ;u;)
