my xbox 360 controller's thumb grips really hit their limit the other night. they've been breaking for years but theyve also generally like, rubbed away in a way where they create a natural transition to the plastic and its still comfortable, but now they've just broken. i got a nice 50pack of thumbstick grips for a couple quid and put these grey textured ones on and they're like a brand new controller 0.o they feel great! and they match the colour really well.

what have they done to the post layouts

i dyed my first fox tail today! i might do a proper video tutorial in the future but here's a simple rundown below the readmore if you want to learn how to do this too!

and yes, i know he looks like a daikon radish XDDDD

so firstly you'll need a tail and your hair dye of choice. i recommend a pure white tail but hypothetically you can dye any tail. i used schwarzkopf green hair dye for this.

brush the tail out to remove any debris. make sure you have gloves and a plastic bag you can wrap around the dyed fur.

rub the colour cream in while the fur is dry. don't wet it. part the fur as you massage the dye in. this will be really tedious. i spent like half an hour going over, parting the fur and applying more cream to spots that i missed and i still missed several spots closer to the leather.

for a gradient effect, i was applying the cream mostly at the tip but using the residual cream on my gloved hands as i moved up the tail. it's hard to explain and also hard to gauge. don't worry about getting the dye towards the leather if you're making a gradient, at least when you're moving up. you want the dye to be heavier at one end if that makes sense, so worry about the roots of the fur around the tip but not halfway up the tail.

if you want clean lines, or to do stripes, you'll need to use foil to protect the fur and make clear borders, like traditional hair dying (i assume)

once you're happy with the dye, wrap a bag around the dyed area and leave it to sit. depending on how vivid you want the color is how long you let it sit. if you want a pastel, skip this and go straight to rinsing. because i wanted a very vibrant green i let it sit for half an hour.

the scary part - rinsing. only rinse fur that has been dyed and the area around it, don't wet the whole tail if you've only dyed the tip. getting the leather of a tail wet is bad for it and we want to keep that to a minimum. of course, we have to get it wet to rinse it still. rinse it under warm water, parting the fur with your fingers, squeezing it, rinsing the dye off until the water runs clear.

you can use conditioner at this step if you want. i did as my dye came with it, i rubbed it in to the wet fur, and rinsed it after a couple minutes.

squeeze as much of the water out of it as possible. and i mean as much as possible. you want it to be as dry as you can get it.

next stop - hairdryer! you will be using this for a while so get some earbuds in and put on a podcast. use high speed but low heat. now's a great time to look at all the spots you missed with the dye and lament ;w; the air parts the fur and you can really see where you might still have white roots on the fur. don't worry, it'll look fine once its settled.

remember that you're not just drying the fur, but you want to be drying the leather as much as possible. don't be afraid to get the hair dryer close, or hold it in a spot for a moment so the leather gets hit with the air too.

you REALLY want it to be as dry as possible. i'd say there's no such thing as overdrying here. moisture left over can risk your tail moulding. once your tail is fully dried, give it some brushing, a shake, floof it up, and hang it up!

this is my first time dyeing a tail, so there might be some room for improvement. i think the only thing i'm really "unhappy" about is that my gradient is a little lopsided, so one side goes higher than the other. elsewise, this was relatively easy and fun to do. though i stink of hair dye now o_0
