Modern Haymitch x Lenore Dove.
She met Haymitch on a rainy day, at the library.
It wasn’t magical or anything. A book slipped from her hands, he bent down, picked it up, and handed it to her with a smile.
—“Hope it’s not a Greek tragedy,” he said.
—“Huh?”
—“You know… those have way too many falls.”
Lenore Dove stared at him for a few seconds.
The joke was so dumb, she couldn’t help but laugh — more out of surprise than actual amusement.

oh i never know how to explain this properly but i looooooooooooooooove when a story just absolutely TELLS you something and it’s so obvious it goes right by you. like the equivalent of hiding in plain sight. i’m thinking in the original cut(?) of alien where they showed the full xenomorph, crouched and ready to pounce, but because we’ve never seen it before, we can’t tell what it is and interpret it as part of the spaceship. or it’s a detail that seems so out of place or wildly insane that you automatically ignore it and assume you misinterpreted until that exact detail comes back in a big way? (like when noah the raven boy flat out tells everyone he’s a ghost and they take it as a joke, so the reader does too) is there a tvtropes name for this i’m obsessed with it
#straight up this is what sotr does in the context of cf#katniss and Peeta watching Haymitch’s games and assuming that’s the true narrative#therefore we as readers assume it’s was exactly as presented to us#only to find out in sotr that it’s NOT#fuck me up

Tumblr is super big on the "I didn't say it was good, I said I liked it" but really need to discover the value in its opposite of "I didn't say it was bad, I said I hated it".
You can acknowledge that something is good, great, a masterpiece even, and just straight-up not enjoy it.

One of my least favorite reasons people give for disliking Lenore Dove is "she's just not in the story much."
Yes, she doesn't have much time/lines of her own. But Haymitch is constantly mentioning her, like all the time he talks about her. He makes sure she is always at the forefront of everyone's mind. And she is, there is no lack of Lenore Dove in the book. Like if you dislike her character then whatever but this reason is just silly
#THIS#like what do you mean she’s not in it enough HE COMPARES BUNNIES IN THE ARENA TO HER#HAYMITCH IS A CERTIFIED LENORE DOVE YAPPER#HE PROBABLY DROVE MAYSILEE INSANE IN THE ARENA TALKING ABOUT HER EVERY FIVE SECONDS#lenore dove baird#haydove#sunrise on the reaping#sotr

call it unrealistic all you want but Coriolanus, Haymitch and Katniss never getting over the first person they fell in love with is so funny to me like they met exactly one (1) sassy, free-spirited, artistic diva and that was it for the rest of time

you cannot talk about the homophobic murder of jonathan joss without including in the conversation that he is indigenous.
american indian men are at the 2nd highest risk of death by murder compared to all other ethnic groups. in their lifetimes, 82% of native men report having experienced domestic violence. yet the overwhelming majority of perpetrators are non-natives (88% of native men and 92% of native women who reported violence said their attacker was non-native). what’s more, tribal governments are often stymied in their attempts to bring justice against non-natives, meaning that many of these cases go unresolved.
this was an intersectional attack. the fact that he is indigenous matters, even if the motivation was homophobic, because it made him even more vulnerable and disposable in the eyes of his killer.
as always, look into MMIWP to learn more, and speak up for us. miigwetch, take care
