Same anon as before and thank GOD you have a normal take on Orev and Larch. Personally I find Larch/Aster more compelling but like 80% of larch/aster truthers have some weird terf shit going on, so asking for someone鈥檚 opinion on Orev/larch is a good litmus test
馃檹馃檹馃檹thank god you agree. I'm not surprised that terfs have invaded the Larch/Aster side of things tbh, they seem to be unfortunately common in wlw fandom spaces sometimes, especially if one of the characters is commonly interpreted as trans in some way.

What are your thoughts on Larch/Orev 馃え馃え馃え i need to know before I follow
OMG!!! no way!! either you're someone from my bookclub (in which case pls don't kill me T-T) or there's ACTUAL people online who've also read Synchrony! In which case, damn you found this post fast lol
As for my opinion on Larch/Orev 馃槵馃槵, welllllllll....it's certainly one of the hottest points of controversy in my little circle. I personally enjoy their dynamic, as I (unfortunately) find myself frequently relating to Larch and her struggles with sexuality and religion, and I won't deny I think Orev is kind of hot lol, but I can understand why people take issue with it, so here's my overly long hot take:
I, unlike some, do not think it's homophobic or a bury your gays adjacent thing, even though it is technically a "straight" ship, and is prioritized in the narrative over Larch/Aster, Eros/Orev, and the larger evil throuple as a whole. Although Orev obviously is attracted to men because of his relationship with Eros, and Larch is canonically attracted to women (obviously), they are both implied if not explicitly bisexual/biromantic. In their very first interaction, Larch is drawn to Orev, partially out of pity and partially out of her desperation to escape Aster, thus why she chooses not to ritually sacrifice him. Given her situation after leaving the order of Solas, it makes sense for her to develop some sort of feelings for the next god-like figure that reaches out to her, and while her attraction could be read as some sort of projection and is implied to not be really sexual in nature, it is also written very similarly as her attraction to Aster. Orev has that connection to Larch because of her sparing his life, but he really could have chosen any emotionally vulnerable mortal to be The First, and in addition to that, he has no reason (aside from the prophecy), to pay attention to her more than the others and take on human form specifically to reassure her and be explicitly romantic/intimate towards her, unless he did have some sort of genuine interest. Yes, they are centered more than Eros/Orev, but it's thematically relevant since Larch's religious trauma and her journey to independence and their absolutely rancid codependence ties into the whole self-destruction theme. Also Larch is occasionally hinted to be non-binary, or transmasc like Orev, as her internal dialogue being very disconnected from her sense of self parallels his in a lot of ways, and she has a very violent and visceral reaction to the pregnancy that displays an almost out of character level of anger/misery. Also in that scene Orev literally "saw his own guilt-ridden gaze reflected in her eyes" or whatever, which is the first time he is shown with mirror imagery, while she is shown with it throughout, and the first time he is directly showing guilt at any of his many reprehensible actions.
I won't get into why I personally don't find Eros/Orev super compelling after the whole...bathing together leading to murder and deified worship as performed by an atheist thing, cause that's a whole can of worms in and of itself, but I will say that Eros' involvement in the prophecy stunted that dynamic as he's the least effected by all the pregnancy and cult drama, so it makes sense that he fades into the background

blog intro/explanation
this blog is a niche fandom discourse blog
The fandom in question is for an indie novel series called Synchrony, that was adapted into a movie called Synchrony: A Tale of Gods and Man. The movie is considered lost media and canon content is difficult to come across, as the film was only ever aired on a public access broadcast, and the only way we know it exists is due to it being referenced in the acknowledgements of the novel as a "comically horrible adaptation, misinterpreting most of the core themes that I hoped to have gotten across." with the author further stating "even a porno spoof could have done a better job".
My local book club started reading the book recently since one of the bookstores in town was giving away the several copies that they had found water damaged in basement storage. We needed a new series and the mystique around the lack of records of the story and it's discovery intrigued us. Unfortunately, this book has caused some serious divides between what was once a very amicable book group. The story has awakened some horrid vitriol inside us, and I worry it may have been cursed.
I have no idea if there even is an online fandom at all, as I haven't come across anyone talking about it. I'm just making this blog as an outlet to express my anger at certain...opinions in my book group, and if anyone else happens to have strong opinions as well, that they may use this blog as an outlet as well.
