Did anyone else notice that Rumi's long braid kinda looks like a demon tail. It makes so much sense that she was the one to get this hairstyle.

I'm honestly amazed at how my mother manages to both invalidate me everytime I voice an issue I have and make me feel like I'm weird for existing the way I do. Me: I'm frustrated with myself because *issue I'm having*
My mother: That's normal, everybody experiences that at times. Stop being dramatic. *Long explanation about what exactly my issue is and how I should go about it* Me: Can you please stop telling me every issue I have is normal? It makes me feel invalidated. Also that's not what I meant.
My mother: Oh, so nobody understands you. why can't you just be normal?
I know that I'm not special and that everyone has these issues to a degree. But when she tells me that it always makes me feel like I'm inadequate for not being able to just deal with it.

There鈥檚 something very tragic in the way that not only was murderbot not allowed to establish ties to other secunits by virtue of being a rental unit, but also in the way that after going rogue other secunits, by no choice of their own, became the biggest threats to it
like,, there are so many points in the books where the way it talks about other secunits is. off. dismissive or not really talking about them as if they鈥檙e other people
and at the same time I get it. murderbot can鈥檛 treat other secunits as victims because that would get it killed so fast, because if it thought of them as people then how could it not reach out, or hesitate, or try to bend the rules in any way it could? and they鈥檙e other secunits - pattern recognition experts who, unlike humans, know exactly what will and will not activate a governor module. the moment murderbot softened towards them, the moment it hesitated, the other unit would pick that up and potentially expose it as a rogue unit. it wouldn鈥檛 even be the other secunit鈥檚 choice per se, but thanks to the gov module they wouldn鈥檛 have a choice on whether to reveal murderbot or not
and then after murderbot runs - how can you start thinking of them as other people and other victims when that makes you confront your own inaction, standing by and doing nothing when you are likely the only person at the table who is MAKING the choice to do nothing. it鈥檚 so much easier to justify doing nothing, not even trying to free the people around you, if you convince yourself that a rogue unit is way way too dangerous and would kill everyone around it and also the people you like (and ignoring the concrete fact that you didn鈥檛 become that when you went rogue) and isn鈥檛 even a person anyway
idk I think I鈥檓 just sad about the fact that murderbot says with its full chest that secunits don鈥檛 care about each other right up until three shows up and proves that wrong
Just the tragedy that three got to make and forge those relationships while murderbot not only had to go it alone but was in active danger at even the most benign interaction with other secunits as far as its memory goes
I wonder if pre-memory wipe murderbot had relationships with other secunits? I wonder what its opinions on other units were before it had to shut down any empathy towards them to survive
Idk, just thinking about it

I feel like in the books, it was part of the joke that Murderbot says humans are so incompetent while the humans are actually fairly competent. Murderbot has a bunch of prejudices at the beginning of the books. All humans are stupid, comfort units are disgusting, sec units and combat units are all dangerous, etc. Part of its character arc is learning to let go of these beliefs. Regarding the humans, that means acknowledging that idealism and naivety are not always bad and that humans can be competent even if that competence looks different than Murderbot's. Making them actually somewhat incompetent changes the dynamic and not in a good way.
Consensus has been reached. I really like the Murderbot books and the Murderbot character in the show.
NOT a fan of how they dumbed down the human characters at all. They were naive, yes, but smart and reliable. Not caricatures of space hippies! It feels like they were dumbed down so people could point and laugh and say look at the weirdos!
#I might also be a little offended that they made Overse and Pin Lee into the same person#I get it from the pov of the show runners but I still don't like it#murderbot diaries#murderbot

I also watched the video, but I think it's a little misleading. Hyperhydration is really rare and mostly happens to athletes who drink a lot of water, but not enough electrolytes. Generally, your body can only absorb a limited amount of water in a small timeframe. So drinking more than a liter in an hour doesn't do much good. The best thing is to drink small portions spread over the whole day.
Personally, I tend to forget to drink water, if there isn't some within reach. I do get thirsty, but I don't notice it until it's so bad that I already have a headache because I haven't drunk anything all day. So my solution is to always carry a water bottle with me. I don't drink, if I'm not thirsty, but in case I am, it doesn't require additional effort to drink something.
Hydration rules by random tumblr user without any expertise:
Anything between 1 liter and 4 liters a day is probably fine for a healthy adult
Drink more if you're losing a lot of water (illness, sport, heat, etc.)
If you struggle to drink anything at all, try eating foods that contain a lot of water (watermelon, cucumber, etc.)
Don't drink huge amounts of water at once.
Every person is different, do what works for you
