“What are you doing, Loki?” Y/n asked as she watched him in the living quarters of the avenger tower.

“Planing world domination, love. Care to join me?” He joked looking at her with a smirk.

She hummed and shrugged shoulder.

“Very tempting, but I think I’ll pass. I don’t think I want to be responsible for everyone on earth.” Y/n joked back as she sat comfortably beside Loki on the sofa.

“That’s a bummer, would’ve been fun having a queen like you.” Loki sighed looking at the view from the giant ceiling to floor window.

Y/n chuckled, grabbing her book from the coffee table and flipping to the spot she left off. Loki sighed as he laid down on the leather sofa. Putting his head in Y/ns lap. Enjoying the feeling of her putting her hands through his thick midnight hair.

Y/n read her book while caressing Lokis midnight hair.

“I don’t understand how she can’t see he likes her. I mean come on! Look at that!” Tony whispered yelled at Thor as he nodded his head towards Y/n and Loki.

“Just think about it, reindeer games, doesn’t like anyone here. Not even you, and he’s your brother. He just likes her.” Tony grabbed a bottle of water from the fridge and took a big bulb out of it.

“I know my brother has done some terrible things, but he is still able to love... I think.” Thor explained as he went to take a sip of his water, but the water disappeared from the bottle.

“Was there a hole in the bottle?” Thor asked confused, examining the bottle for any holes. Thor and Tony could hear Loki’s snicker and Y/n lightly smacking on his shoulder. Whispering, “you shouldn’t have done that.” Loki shrugged as he smirked.

“Who cares, I don’t trust him.” Tony tolled his eyes moving out of the kitchen, annoyed with Loki’s pranks.

“Brother, if you wish to continue living here. You must stop pissing people off. Your lucky enough I got them to agree to let you stay here.” Thor said as he watched his brother rest his head on Y/ns lap while she read quietly.

Loki didn’t answer Thor which annoyed him.

“Lady Y/n, I know I ask a lot from you. But could you please keep my brother from doing his foolish pranks.” Y/n looked up from her book to the god of thunder.

“I guess, but not all of his pranks are foolish. Also, I suggest going to Tony’s lab or the gym there are hidden smoke bombs that go off as soon as the doors open.” Y/n said with a smirk. Loki bellowed our a laugh as he sat up.

“My dear brother, what have you done to this young woman?” Thor asked as he walked out of the room.

A couple days later:

It was late at night Y/n had just came back from a difficult mission. Her back was hurting and bruised. Her skin had cut marks and a good couple bruises were forming on her Y/s/t face and arms. But the other people looked worse then her. (They were dead or damn near close to it.)

Y/n soaked up the warm shower water and scrubbed the mess off her y/s/t body. The water tinting a slight crimson from the blood and debris coming off of her.

After she washed up and got dressed, she walked out of her room to the living room where she was stopped by a worried looking Loki. It was late, around 3 in the morning. Looking at Loki she seen the worried look on his face. As soon as Loki made eye contact with her he was on his feet. Quickly coming towards her. She was confused and tensed at first, but when she felt his arms wrap around her body she relaxed.

“You are going to worry me to death, darling.” He mumbled against her hair. Breathing in her sent, he held her close to him.

“I’m sorry, I couldn’t have any contact to anyone on this mission.” Loki nodded as he pulled her away looking her over seeing the cuts and bruises on her. Which made him worry even more.

“Look, I may look gross and beat up, but you should see the other guy. I’m pretty sure he might have a few broken ribs, and his eye ball might have fallen out.” Y/n tried to make a light hearted joke to the frost giant, but he wasn’t having it.

“I care too much for you to get hurt.” He whispered, almost so quiet that she could barely hear him.

“I can’t bare to see you hurt. Seeing you like this now hurts me. I just want to find the evil bastard who did this to you and torcher then kill him.” Y/n shook her head as she took Loki’s cold hands in her warm ones.

She smiled looking into his blue eyes. “I’m okay, do you feel this?” She asked taking Loki’s hands and placing it over her beating heart.

“I’m still alive and well. I may be a bit bruised, but by tomorrow morning Ill look as fresh as a daisy. That’s what happens when you grow up in Hydra for 25 years of your life.” She joked lightly.

Loki nodded as he heard a door open and close. He looked at her and she nodded knowing he didn’t want the others to know he had a nice side to him.

“Who were you talking to?” Steve asked as he grabbed a bottle of water. The blonde soldier had a towel tightly wrapped around his waist. Y/n could see a few bruises on him as well, but his would be gone in the morning as well.

“Nobody, just myself. Sometimes I need expert advice.” She joked.

Steve laughed while shaking his head.

“I don’t understand why you don’t tell Loki how you feel.” He started.

“I mean the whole time we were on the mission all you could do was talk about how you like Loki.”

Y/n chuckled shaking her head as she looked over the captain. Seeing his bruises slightly healing.

“It’s crazy, you telling me that.” She chuckled looking at Steve with a knowing look.

“Yeah, well I should’ve told Peggy how I felt before everything happen. But you don’t have to be like me. You have to tell people how you feel about them before it’s too late.”

Y/n nodded at the mans words, thinking everything over before he started talking again.

“The two of you, I- we can all see how the two of you feel for each other. It’s just the matter of time for the one if you to grow the balls to tell the other how you feel.” Y/n nodded looking into his blue eyes.

“Just think about it. I’ll see you in the morning, have a good night.” Steve bid her goodbye as he left the room. Leaving her with the thoughts rattling in her head.

Y/n huffed as she laid in her bed. She could stop thinking. She was worn out from the hard mission, but her brain kept on running.

‘What if Loki likes me?’ ‘What if he shares the same feelings I have for him?’ ‘What if I told him how I feel and then he doesnt feel the same?’ The thoughts went on and on throughout the night.

Y/n was about to fall asleep when she heard a light knock on her door. She sat up in bed and mumbled out a come in. Looking confused as Loki came into the room.

“Loki, what’re you doing up?” She questioned as she scooted over on the bed for Loki to sit down.

“I came to tell you something I should’ve told you months ago.” He spoke in a serious voice, which kinda worried her.

She nodded, looking down at her hands Loki hand but his hands on top of. Slightly caressing the soft y/s/t skin.

“I’m in love with you. Everything about you, I’m in love with. The way you care for everyone. The way you care for me when everyone else tries to get rid of me. The way you join in on my pranks. The way you love everyone, the way you protect the people you love. Everything about you makes me fall deeper in love with you.”

He rambled out his confession of love. Y/n looked at the midnight haired man through tears. She was so happy he felt the same way for her. She couldn’t find the right words so she let instinct take over. She didn’t know who kissed who first but it happened and she couldn’t find it in her heart to pull away. She cared to much for this god in front of her. She felt as if she would stop kissing him she would wake up from a dream.

“Will you be my queen?” He asked looking into her y/e/c eyes.

“Yes! Of course!” She smiled, giving him another passionate kiss. And from their they were never separated.

Hi. I just want to say that I agree with every point of criticism you have about BG3 and parts of its fandom. Another thing I'm afraid about is they're going to go through with "TWIST! Zevlor is evil all along" thing (based on his datamined voicelines). It kinda dumbs down his character and erase the potential his character could have (a person who tried to fight for the right thing, persecuted for being different, exiled, then having to bear great responsibilty of keeping other people safe). His character could have, I don't know, an arc about learning to put himself first sometimes, allowing himself to enjoy the moment and be happy for once etc. (Also give him a boyfriend, preFURrably Halsin, do it Larian you cowards). It doesn't have to always be twisted villain or being killed off for grimdarkTM or some such to make an arc meaningful.

I very happy to know theres some people actually reading my random rants and even agreeing! I dont tag them bc i know a huge chunck of the bg3 fandom is and will be dragon age players and i dont want anything to do with the homophobic/transphobic/racist circle jerks that pop up in that fandom. Ive already blocked a few terfs. I also have friends who are DA players tho so dont @ me about “not all da fans” if u r one :p

Ive actually written out even more like, burning scolding hot takes that I deleted because i dont want to bring drama to myself. Im not a huge computer gamer, i mostly replay fallout and borderlands, but i do some causal VTM and DND ttrpg so like. I have POE and divinity downloaded but idk when I’ll actually sit down to play (oof). So my like, authority on Video Game is kinda... Limited? But that obviously doesnt stop me and ill tear apart AAA videogames idgaf.

So far ive sorta, noticed that some of the dialogue branches, and subsequently, the quest branching, dont actually have that many different endings and actually loop into each other to give you the same outcome. Not a great look, but ill wait and see when we get to actual baldurs gate to see how everything ends up going. I do know that BG: seige of dragonspear had the first and only trans woman and the backlash was horrible. And i feel like a lot of the problems im finding with lgbt representation (or lack of) with BG3 EA are a direct result from that. Im waiting for more content, and then the full game release to tear it apart. I will not be gentle.

As for zevlor: If he turns out evil idgaf, in this household we love our bastard tieflings to the very end. I hope all the stuff people are datamining are just a very small portion of like, “bad endings” and people are just being pessimistic and i hope there are more good feelsy endings. I really fucking hate forced grimdark/ gritty endings in dnd writing. When theres bright blue elves with purple hair, i cannot take any of it seriously. I hope since it is labeled and marketed as an RPG, our choices will actually matter. If they dont and halsin ends up with a forced permadeath or zevlor ends up ~evil~ no matter what you do at the grove, BG3 is going to get ripped into by critics, not just me lmao.

thanks for yalls questions!! it was fun to answer! if anyone still has questions feel free to ask whenever i am always 100% down to ramble. even if i did go slightly off topic in some answers

additional: went off topic with the hair question a bit. their bright hair is all part of the transformations. regular hair dye does exist though. best way to tell is that if the eyebrow matches the hair its probably not dyed. also, quartz’s hair is naturally ginger.

also was gonna keep this in the tags but thought i might as well actually try to answer it: the question i found it hardest to answer was someone the song one. my taste in music is. a mess really. ive been listening to like the same 5 songs on repeat all day. more under the cut because i was rambling again and now its uhhh half 1am

if it helps at the time of answering that specific question i had home by cavetown on repeat, and that song reminds me of both rami and lewis. but that may be because i project onto those two a lot, and as a aro trans dude. who sucks with people skills, yeah of course i love that song.

specifically the vibes of like not knowing how to communicate (rami is fine with his friends but other people are different), the lines “ Turn off your porcelain face, I can't really think right now and this place, Has too many colors, enough to drive all of us insane” idk what the porcelain face line is supposed to mean but im picturing it as like. a mask. that you need to take off and stop hiding and rami does tend to hide when hes feeling upset, and the next two lines kinda could tie into that, like the feeling of when youre overwhelemed and just want the world to stop so you just hide somewhere. also the colours could go with chapter 3 with the chromatic abberation.

also the bit with “ my eyes went dark, I don't know where, my pupils are, But I'll figure out a way to get us out of here” just kinda sums up ramis whole hero thing with his powers and all. anyway this has turned into less what songs rami would like and why this particular song reminds me of him and lewis (lewis specifically has the hair cutting/chest hiding, [big transmasc mood], and also messy haired trainwreck who doesnt know who he is yet. also the ghosts bit)

i did end up picking upbeat songs because ramis a dude who like to try and be upbeat even if things arent. even if hes not really feeling it he will pretend to.

then a giant wall of text reading: “Supers have only existed for a relativly short time, since the early 1940s. momento mori was the second person to have ever gained powers.

Only a small number of the population are supers! the chances are higher in more populated cities, but unusally london has oneof the higher percentages of supers. while nobody in universe has any idea of the origins of superpowers, it does seem that powers are more likely to occur in people who would actually use their powers.

as for what powers are most common, after making a badly catagorized spreadsheet of every superpowered character ive made for this world (70% of which will probably never even be seen), turns out that elemental powers are the most common. although not all elemental powers manifest as the straight up 'controling this element' as seen in characters like lin or tsunami. for example, iris's powers would fall under shadow elemntal powers, but theyre a lot more weird that just controlling shadows.there are some abilities that have never been seen before,such as ressurection or full on time travel (aka anything that could bring a character back to life), but powers are certainly allowed to toe the line eg healing, powers involving undeath, immortality, pausing or manipulating time.

aside from that, anything goes. you could get plain old superstrength, but you could also get the ability to create dogs with your mind. other not quite rules, more guidelines are that supers are immune to their own powers hurting them (unless they were pushing themselves too hard), although the way the imminuties occur may be inconvinient to the super.

while some powers may be 'more powerful' than others, powers dont really get to be way underpowered or overpowered in comparision to others. sure being able to talk to animals may feel a bit useless compared to someone who can lift 4 tanks at once, but nobodys going to end up with a power like 'can turn into a goose but only once' or 'can grow toenails twice as fast' or 'if i sneeze i can change my hair colour'. at the same time, youre not going to get someone with the power to snap their fingers and level a city, or instantly blow up the moon or whatever.

you know what? its pain story time gsdfdsfsdfsd ill put em all under a read more. tws for a couple vague mentions of blood, some unsanitary kinda stuff, menstruation, brief mention of surgery (not in any detail) and some detailed descriptions of a whole lotta pain.

okay so in remembering all my pain stories, ive remembered quite a few injuries i got when i was little, that i dont really remember the pain of, i just remember that it was painful, including

falling (with extra momentum) and splitting my gum open on cobblestones

getting smashed in the face with a dodgeball

that time i got a throat infection so bad that breathing hurt and i sat in the school office for several hours before my mum picked me up

falling off monkey bars, landing on my butt and being so winded that i couldn’t speak for ten minutes

being pulled over by my nana’s dog, landing on my shoulder and yet again being winded, this time so bad that i couldn’t breathe in for about ten seconds and for those ten seconds i genuinely thought i might die

that time i got a bladder infection - i remember writhing in pain in the backseat of my mum’s car as she drove me to A&E but i don’t really actually remember the pain

the chronic stomachaches i would have that i recently realised might be connected to my possible lactose intolerance/sensitivity and the fact that i pretty much only drank milk as a child (can you guess how the bladder infection happened)

with doing pole, i constantly get covered in bruises and such and a lot of moves cause some low-level pain but that’s because of the grip - the pain is mostly due to like, the pulling on the skin and its never really more than a few bruises and some tender skin on the thighs (except for that time where i somehow tore the skin of my thigh... underneath the top layer of skin fsdsadsa). the closest i’ve gotten to a proper pole injury is falling out of a duchess onto my arse and being a little more bruised that usual, and the several times in the past couple months that i’ve smashed my head into the pole whilst doing a flying cat at full power.

and honestly pole has done a lot for my pain threshold. it’s like, i notice the pain is there, but it doesn’t bother me because i’ve felt it so often. and its also because i know that the pain of keeping this grip is way way less than the pain that i will feel if i let go sdfsdfsdfsd i find myself with so many small bruises now that i know aren’t from pole because of the position of them but i cant think where i got them - because they’re probably from bumping into things and that pain is so small and common to me that i immediately forget about it

on the other hand i also have. really bad hips. and sometimes when im just moving, ill catch a nerve and a shot of pain will go through my entire leg and that shit hurts. ive noticed it most commonly happens if i twist when im stepping somewhere but i dont turn the leg thats planted. i was also once balancing on one leg whilst putting a sock on and my hip just. popped out. and i think it immediately went back but i couldnt properly move that leg for ten minutes and i was in a fair bit of pain

my worst pain experiences though... hoo boy. i kinda narrowed them down to three.

im afab and i have periods so of course i gotta deal with cramps every so often, and they can get pretty bad - just like, doubled over, seeking out anything warm to put on my stomach. i’d say about a 5 on the pain scale. but after my gsce exams (exams that uk kids take in year 11 which is the equivalent of sophomore year of high school. they’re the first exams you take that you get an actual qualification from) i didnt have my period for 3 months. and if im late on my period, my cramps get bad. so on the 17th august, a week before my 16th birthday, ya boy was in fucking agony and for some reason in my brain i was also vehemently against taking any painkillers. eventually my nana convinced me to take one of her morphine tablets though and i felt way better hdfgdsff

theres also the time last november when i got an ear infection. earlier that day i had had a massive nosebleed that lasted for about 20 minutes and made me feel super woozy, so along with all the shit that came with dealing with that (i had to go to A&E to get checked out) it was already a pretty rough day. and then that evening my ear started hurting real bad and it just progressively got worse, and i hardly slept that night at all. i was in pure agony by like. 1am and it lasted the entirety of the night, no matter that i took painkillers. the only reprieve i got was at one point, i was watching yt videos and an ad for headspace came on, and i listened along to the meditation thingy it was doing, but of course once the ad was over, the pain was back full force and i could do nothing but cry (so of course i started to get a headache on top of all of it). thankfully once i got to the doctors the next day and got some antibiotics, it cleared up super fast. i was also talking to darkwarf (i wont tag him so he doesnt have to read this fdsffds) and funnily enough our talks that night were what birthed his character teddy.

and then what i think is officially the worst pain ive ever been in, was the first time i got my tailbone infection. me and my mum went on a coach to a roller derby game and at the end of the day my tailbone was aching quite a bit, as if i’d bruised it. i brushed it off as just being the fact that i had sat in shitty coach seats for several hours, then uncomfortable plastic chairs for more hours, then shitty coach seats again. the next day though. ya boi was in agony again. i could not find any way to be comfortable - the closest i could get to comfort was standing. every movement of my hips was pure pain and i couldnt walk properly. the pain was so bad i just could not put one foot in front of the other and i ended up walking by essentially swiveling on each foot and keeping my hips as still as possible. the worst part was when my mum drove me to the walk in centre - although i knew that i was going to where i would be helped, the car. oh, the car. somethign about that seat - and since this infection has recurred several times, i know it is a feature of all car seats - maybe it was the angle, or whatever, but it was pure agony to sit in. i spent the whole car ride with my arm on the car door and my other hand on the car seat, holding myself up to make it not so bad, but with every bump of the car, pain was fucken. shooting through me. it would take me like 10 full seconds to lower myself into a chair or push myself out of one. sleeping was awful cause i sleep on my side and i turn quite a few times before i can get to sleep - and of course turning with my hips how they were was incredibly painful. im not very vocal when it comes to pain but this thing had me yelping and everything. plus the antibiotics i had to take were fucking miserable. they tasted absolutely disgusting and i had to have them 4 times a day on an empty stomach (no food 2 hours before or 1 hour after) for 2 week and it was awful. this bastard is also recurring. the last time it got super bad was funnily enough about a week after my ear infection. honestly yall. late nov-dec 2018 was the worst fucken time for my physical health. but actually! in 2020 i am hopefully getting a surgery to stop the infections once and for all! but with the way the NHS is going, honestly who fucking knows. i do know that i will hunt down and kill boris johnson if he stops me getting this surgery.

oh no! youre not dumb and this is a very nicely worded message. i’ve been trying to answer this message for several days, and I really want to be able to do it on this blog because i feel like you deserve an answer and i don’t have another way to contact you, but i’m not sure that i can.

how do i say this–in the very short time that i’ve begun running this blog and wound up with a number of followers (and the idea that this blog has more than 0 followers is already beyond the scope of the intention of this sideblog, because it was originally meant to be only an archive for fanart), there’s already been drama in the inbox, and i’d rather just not host or perpetuate drama on this blog, even if that means that 1) i don’t write meta anymore, or 2) i just keep my opinions and interpretations to myself.

but to get to the point: there’s definitely more than two different ways to write a fanfic, and there’s more than two different ways to create a fanwork, and there’s more than two different ways to engage with interpretation and transformation of a text. i would like to say that i know this for a fact. but i’m not sure how to explain it.

the post i reblogged puts up a binary of “type 1: wing it” and “type 2: stringent adherence to factual detail.” it’s a black and white option. the third type is “somewhere in the middle”–shades of grey.

this is a spectrum that only goes one way.

to extend the color metaphor, the spectrum includes white, black, and grey, and doesnt even consider the fact that there might be colors like red, orange, green, blue, purple, etc.

on a scale of “i stringently adhere to canon and all of canon’s details” and “canonical details can go fuck themselves,” i would be hard-pressed to place the fanwork that i do.

i would not know where to put, on this spectrum, a fanwork that considered the premise of a show to be better than its execution, and wrote an AU that revised the second season to honor, respect, and engage with the premise of the show better than the actual show-writers.

i wouldn’t know where to put on this spectrum a fanwork that rewrites characters as queer or people of color. (a lot of the fanworks that i’ve seen with half-japanese, half-black naruto have been genuinely very compelling in regards to highlighting the ways that black children are treated in america. and the ways that naruto is treated in the show, for that matter.)

i wouldn’t know where to put on this spectrum a character study that tries to unpack a backstory that’s never explained in canon. no matter how well-sourced, no matter how detail-oriented the work is, it will still always be an interpretation. to come up with entire missing chunks of canon will always be a statement on trying to insert a missing piece into the entire rest of the fabric of the work.

let me try another way.

i did some theatre work as an undergrad. in theatre, it’s essentially taken for granted that your work will be an interpretation of the original script. as it stands, the scripts that are replicated arent actually the original script that the scriptwriter wrote; the scripts that are replicated and reread are actually the stage notes, meaning that it has additions from the stage manager and director.

i’ve seen and participated in the production of maybe five different versions of hamlet.

one of them intended to replicate hamlet of that particular era, with stringent scrutiny to detail, as best as possible.

the second production involved TV screens, electrical wiring, and heavy edits to the script. it was a commentary on surveillance states, self-surveillance, internalized state surveillance, and the ways that people go mad under it.

the third production was a comedy. the scene where hamlet found out that ophelia was dead had the audience in actual stitches. i think i laughed so hard i cried.

the fourth production was a genderswap. ophelia’s character had all the same lines and was somehow fresh and new and interesting by virtue that ophelia was now a man. hamlet was a disaster garbage goblin woman whose disaster, often chalked up to hamlet’s femininity, was somehow even more gender-nasty than it was in the first place.

the fifth production was a modern day adaptation, in which hamlet is an heir to a big business (very common adaptation), and the set included varying fake ads spoofing starbucks, amazon, and college application ads. hamlet’s “to be or not to be” speech was minorly modified to reflect the theme of “i labor/i shop, therefore i am.” the director had a very difficult time keeping in conversation with previous adaptations that had done this very premise, because it’d been done half to death.

i would say that all of these productions engaged meaningfully with the source text, said something new about it, said something new about our current day situation and us as an audience, and did, in fact, take stringent care to stay true to some aspect of the text, right down to its nitty gritty details. each one of the directors slaved over research, from trying to figure out the details of the original period production, to details of productions since, to hamlet’s long history of being butchered by shitty actors, to shakespeare’s prevalence in the theatre community that effectively silenced new plays for a whole century, to the pushback against shakespeare, to the revival of shakespeare, and what that means for our current state of, so to speak, the “shakespeare fandom.”

i’d say meaningful, detail-considerate engagement with the source text was done with all of these productions.

even the one with the TV screens and surveillance state.

even the one with the genderswap.

i think what i’m trying to illustrate is that it takes more attention to detail, an even closer reading of the text, to be able to play with the text and speak in conversation with it. i’ve never known fanworks to be purely reflective of canon, of simply giving a purely uncritical, unchanged interpretation of canon. fanworks (when done right) have always been creative, experimental, and transformative of canon, and that’s why i’ve liked it.

fanworks, in a lot of ways, have always been about speaking back to a text, rather than passively accepting it.

details and close reading are good. they are so good, in fact, that i have a career in teaching young people how to do it.

but to me as a fan creator, these are not the point.

so i suppose that the joke, anon, is that a binary of “i rigorously attend to every detail of canon” vs “details of canon can go fuck themselves” is… a strong bastardization of what fanworks and fanfiction actually do, insofar as i’m aware.

i hope that makes sense. i did my best.

The guy strode into the room like he owned the entire building.

“I’m personally offended by your nerve damage. Not by you, hot stuff, I could never be offended by someone with your face. Holy crap, do you have a weapon license for that glare, that look could kill someone.”

The man didn’t even bother to say hello. Bucky was immediately put off by his bluntness and flirtyness? and the guy didn’t stop talking. He sat down on one of those stools with wheels and rolled around the room, picking up Bucky’s file from the counter. He flipped through it, pulled a face, then dropped it with a look of disgust that made Bucky want to get up from examination chair and walk out the door. The nerve the man had, he could have just slapped him in the face, would have felt the same.

“You’re the impossible patient, I hear. People’ve been talking about you, saying what a poor guy you are with that level of amputation and nerve damage.” The man rolled up to Bucky’s left side, clasping his hands together and grinning enthusiastically. “I wanted to see that for myself. I’m Tony by the way.”

Bucky was too angry to say anything for a moment and he took a deep breath before trusting himself to speak. He sat up in the chair, ready to get up.

“I would like to go now, Dr. - ” He looked at the guy’s name tag on his lab coat.“ -Banner?”

The man had the audacity to laugh.

“I’m not Dr. Banner, I just took his coat for today, we do that sometimes. Anyway, you’re not allowed to leave until I get some results.”

“Listen, Dr. Whoeveryouare - ”

“Tony.”

“I don’t care.” Bucky pinched the bridge of his nose. “If all you want is to humiliate me further by running more tests with no results then I have no reason to stay, the other doctor made it pretty clear yesterday that I’m a fucked up case and won’t be getting a prosthesis. I can accept that, but I can’t accept that you want to put me through these fucking tests again just for your own amusement. I’m not having another panic attack so you can have a good laugh with your colleagues later. I’m leaving now.”

Bucky got up, he was shaking and unsteady on his feet, but if he could just get out of this room he could hold onto the wall and make it out of the clinic if he recalled correctly there was an alley right next to it -.

He didn’t get very far because Tony rolled in front of him with the stool and very effectively blocked his way.

“Who said anything about having a laugh. When I said results I meant results we can work with. Results that will get you a new arm.” Tony reached out and held onto Bucky’s arm, steadying him. “Sit back down please, you look like you are about to have a breakdown.”

“You’re not wrong,” Bucky mumbled, Tony’s words slowly sank in and he sat back down on the chair. He took a deep breath trying to calm himself with a long exhale. “I don’t understand. The nerve damage-”

“The nerve damage is severe, that’s true, but I’m here for the impossible cases and you fit the definition perfectly. Shoulder disarticulation, burn scars, shattered clavicle and scapula, not to mention the muscle damage and I’m guessing PTSD as well, Afghanistan?”

Bucky leaned back in the chair, closing his eyes. “Iraq.”

“You okay?” Tony’s voice was suddenly quiet, concerned, a stark contrast to his in-your-face tone earlier.

“Okay enough.”

Bucky heard Tony rolling around, pulling something heavier towards them and making some noise, his best guess was that Tony was readying the machine the other doctor had already used to test the nerve reaction in his stump. He didn’t know why Tony thought he was going to get a different result than two days ago, but he also had no idea how this machine worked in the first place.

“Why me?”

“Whaff?” Tony sounded like he had something in his mouth and Bucky cracked open an eye just to confirm that the man had a screwdriver between his teeth, he had both his hands in the wiring of the machine and was doing …something to it.

“What the hell?”

“Just a sec, almost got it. Should be able to get some more sensitivity out of this thing.” Tony dropped the screwdriver from his mouth, caught it and stuck it into the machine in one smooth move. “Don’t worry, I designed this thing. I know what I’m doing.” Something inside the scanner made a whining noise and a mischievous grin spread over Tony’s face. “Done, now strip.”

Tony loosely fitted the covering back onto the machine and turned to Bucky who was still speechless.

“Strip, or do you want me to stick the electrodes on your shirt?”

“Why me?” Bucky repeated again. “Why go through all that effort for me?”

“Because,” Tony sorted through the cables of the electrodes, casually getting everything ready for testing, “when I get this technology to work with you, Mr. Impossible-Nerve-Damage, I can get this to work with everybody.”

“You sound like you invented this thing yourself.”

Tony stalled minutely in his movements but soon continued to untangle the cables. “I was part of the team, it’s an issue of personal pride. Now, do I have to buy you dinner first before you undress?” He flashed a cocky grin at Bucky.

Bucky didn’t know why taking off his shirt was so difficult for him right now, Tony had certainly seen the pictures in his files, and he had done it with the other doctor two days ago, but that one had been cold to him, almost sterile, and with the remnants of an almost break down at the back of his mind Bucky didn’t feel comfortable exposing his scars.

The flirting didn’t help.

While Bucky was still trying to get the courage to pull off his shirt he heard Tony roll around the room again and then he suddenly had a blanket in his lap. One of those white emergency blankets that the clinic kept in the cupboards and nobody had ever touched before.

“You can cover up after I applied the electrodes, no need for you to be uncomfortable. And I’m not judging, I can assure you that.”

Bucky nodded. He swallowed, then shrugged out of the hoodie he was wearing. He needed another second before he pulled off his shirt. The cold air on his shoulder was uncomfortable, the scar tissue was still sensitive there, still red and irritated even after all these months. He knew it would take time till he would be completely healed, his stump at least, not like he was going to grow a new arm.

“Can you lie a bit on your side?” Tony was adjusting the backseat of the chair and put it up a bit. “I need to get to your backside for a moment, then you can lie on your back.”

Bucky did as he was told.

“I guess you know how these work, so just relax.”

“You say it like it’s easy.” Bucky huffed. He involuntarily twitched when Tony touched him. The skin on his fingertips felt rough on Bucky’s sensitive skin, but Tony worked quickly and efficiently, not touching him more than was necessary. Unlike the other doctor who had been fumbling with the electrodes forever before he had glued them to Bucky’s stump. With soft pressure on his shoulder, Tony guided him onto his back and then applied the electrodes to his chest and side.

“Okay, that’s it. You can cover up.” Tony turned back to the machine and started pressing buttons on the screen, Bucky unfolded the blanket and threw it over himself, it made him feel a little better about the situation. Not as exposed as the last time and also not freezing from the AC. Now he just had to wait… and hope, still he was extremely tense.

“Are you okay over there?” Tony suddenly asked and Bucky gave him a questionable look. “I feel like you’re having a moment. You’re breathing pretty hard.”

“I’m fine.” Bucky pressed. “Just…nervous. Already gave up on this whole thing and then you waltz in and turn everything upside down.”

“Yeah, that’s what I do.” He smirked then turned back to the device and fiddled with it, Bucky knew he was running certain programs to measure nerve activity or whatever. Last time most of the appointment had been taken up by the very lengthy explanation of the whole procedure, the measuring itself had only taken a few minutes. When he heard Tony sigh he knew it was already over. He prepared himself for walking out of the door like the other day, feeling utterly broken.

“Initial readings are really crappy, I can see how Dr. Richards thought you couldn’t be worked with,” Tony mumbled.

That was that. Bucky sat up, letting the blanket fall onto his lap. He reached for his shirt and started on untangling it.

“Woah there, what are you doing?”

“Getting dressed again. I’m guessing we’re done here…”

“You’re guessing wrong, hotshot.”

Bucky looked at Tony like he had just grown a second head. “But the results are crap.”

“The initial results are crap, but I’m not done yet. Get comfortable, put on some music, this is going to take a while.” With that, Tony turned back to the device and left Bucky sitting with his mouth hanging open. After Tony didn’t say anything else and just continued with his work Bucky laid back down, eventually, he also pulled out his phone and started to listen to some music.

James (7:48 pm)“That took FOREVER!”“I’m pretty sure Tony is a mad scientist”
